  • kidney disease diet?

have early stages of FSGS and am on medication to treat my nephrotic syndrome (now under control} as well as blood pressure and cholesterol medications. my kidney function is still very good, and i'm not anemic or diabetic, so i don't need to be on any radical or extremely strict diet, but I would like some guidelines on what particular foods I should be trying to eat more of or trying to avoid. Please don't recommend any supplements, or just tell me "low protein" since protein really only needs to be controlled in relation to the kidneys' functioning. What types of protein are best? Is it true that I should cut out dairy? Concentrating on fresh fruits? Vegetables? Which ones? Whole grains? Legumes? How much & what proportions? Not trying to lose or gain weight, just want to be eating the best I can to try to help control and slow the progression of my disease.

  • Recipe using chocolate cake mix and canned pumpkin?

I saw a recipe the other day, the only ingredients were canned pumpkin (or was it pumpkin pie filling?) and chocolate (or maybe it was devil's food?) cake mix.

I'd really like to know the rest of the recipe - how long to cook it, what size pan, etc... but I haven't been able to find the recipe again.

Thanks in advance if you can give me this recipe!

  • What fruits or veggies other than bananas have lots of potassium?

I have a serious medical problem and am supposed to make sure I get enough potassium, but I really really can't stand bananas, so if you can suggest a few potassium-rich alternatives for me that'd be really helpful.

Please don't suggest vitamins or supplements, I am taking a lot of medications already and can't risk any drug interactions.

  • Ideas for extremely low sodium diet?

Hi, have a bit of a medical problem and must eliminate salt/sodium almost entirely from my diet. I LOVE salty foods, what can I replace it with that will be satisfying? Even bread and cheese and some vegetables have tons of sodium!

I also need to be careful about cholesterol...

  • What to do about seriously swollen feet & ankles?

For a couple weeks now my feet & ankles have been extremely swollen, can't even see/feel my ankle bones. I also get a tingly feeling in the last 3 toes of one foot sometimes, and often am

sore & aching in both legs right up to the knees.

I just had a baby in March but didn't have any of these symptoms while pregnant (or before that).

What is this? What can I do about it?

I've been trying to get back in shape, mostly walking, which I did a lot before and during my pregnancy, but am wondering if I should not be on my feet until the swelling subsides?

I've tried lying with my feet up, even sleeping with my feet elevated, but it doesn't seem to make much difference.

  • Dinner for Mom's birthday, what to serve as a side with souvlaki?

Don't say rice, we want something really light cause it's so hot out.... a greek salad maybe, but I was hoping for something more original.

And it's got to be quick & easy to prepare because

I have a 2-month-old to take care of too.

  • Baby has dry skin - is it normal?

My baby is 1 week old today and we noticed his skin is becoming dry and a little flaky in some places. Mostly his hands, between the fingers and on his tummy, around the top of his diaper. Is this normal? Is there anything we should do? I don't want to use lotion since his hands are always near his face and in his mouth.

  • Whole chicken in a Crock Pot?

I'm cooking a whole chicken in my new crock pot. I'm planning to season the chicken with a little salt & pepper, and to add about a cup of chicken broth in the crock pot, along with some cut up carrots, onions and potatoes.

Is this going to work? Am I forgetting anything? Does anyone have a great recipe for a whole slow-cooked chicken that I should try instead? (please not web-sites, I can look those up myself, thanks)

The crock pot is new, a Christmas gift, so any tips or ideas could help. Thanks!!

  • 25 weeks and new cramps?

Sorry to be a little graphic, but I've been getting kinda painful cramps for a few days now (on and off) kind of in the vagina & rectum...

No constipation or anything, and they do eventually go away, but sometimes the rectal cramps are so bad I can't stand up. Happens mostly in the morning when I'm about to get out of bed, but also at other times.

Has anyone else had this? What is it? I don't really think it's anything serious, I mean weird cramps and pains happen all through pregnancy, but is there something I can do to relieve this a little?

Thanks so much if you can help me.

  • Cross stitch patterns?

I'd like to find a pattern (or set of smaller patterns) to cross stitch on a baby blanket. It's one of those that's separated into smaller squares, each about 80 stitches x 80 stitches...

Anywhere I can download and print (especially for free!) would be amazing.

    Thanks.

  • Help! My puppy all of a sudden is panicking in her crate???

She's been fine in her crate until the last few weeks. First she was getting upset and crying a little, then she started drooling HUGE puddles (so much we first thought she was knocking over her water or even peeing in the crate) all over the place every time we put her in, and now she starts shaking & trembling as soon as we close the door of the crate. Any suggestions?

Don't bother telling me that crate training is cruel, that's bull****, this is the first dog I've ever had any crate problems with, and we didn't even have problems with her for the first 3 months, just now.

  • Sore breasts and nipples??

I'm 18 weeks pregnant and the last week or two have been getting really sore nipples, almost like a burning feeling. It usually starts if I get cold....but it can go on for hours sometimes, really really painful. Winter's starting, and I'm wondering if it's maybe just because the skin is dry or something? But I've never had this painful sensation before, not even in early pregnancy. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to relieve the pain?

  • 3 months pregnant, not comfy in my old clothes...?

What can I wear, other than baggy sweats? Too early for maternity clothes, not enough belly yet, but I can't comfortably button my jeans any more....I don't really have much money to spend either, just need something nice enough to go in to work.

    Suggestions please?

  • What can I do with green cherry tomatoes??

A few branches broke off my plant, full of not nearly ripe fruit...does anyone have a recipe for green tomato preserves, or a dish or anything I can do with these? I hate to throw them out, but there's no way they'll ripen on my windowsill.

  • Have you had any luck teaching a budgie to speak?

I was told that if you get a young bird that was hand-fed, that it's possible to teach it to speak a few words. Have you been able to do this? What tricks are there, how do you teach them?

  • Could I be ovulating?

I have a kind of sharp pain, like a bad cramp, on the right side, about where my ovary would be. This is the second day in a row that it hurts there. This happened last month too, and I got my period about 10 days, or maybe 2 weeks later. So does this cramping lean I'm ovulating? If not, then what is causing it?? If it is ovulation, I want to know cause we're trying to get pregnant, but having trouble because of my long, really irregular cycles.
