how many os's are there for use in a pc. i know of linux and it's variations, windows, mac os, and unix. I mean currently used, not such as dos which is no longer a regular use os since windows has taken over it's functions. note, redhat, fedora, *buntu, debian, etc are all linux based os's. what i need are the names of independent os's used on pc's.

i have several of the *buntu cds which can run from the cd rom. are there any other available linux os cds (or downloads) which can run from the cdrom without having to create the cd from the os files that can be downloaded from the various mirrors? i want to test drive the os's without having to create the cd from the available os dvd files.

i do not want to install anything at this time.

i recently purchased a hdd external enclosure to use an internal hdd as aexternal drive. had to partition and format as a slave through the desktop. once placed in external enclosure, windows will not locate it as a usb device. or show it in disk manager. has seperate power supply so low power is not problem. anyone know what could be wrong? box is a dynex hden 10 aluminum external enclosure and does not require a driver under xp os. followed all install instructions, shows to be getting power (has led). anyone have any ideas?

can the vista ultimate 64 bit version be installed on a 32 bit system? is the dell e1505 t2080 a 32 or 64 bit pc?

it seems every time i shut down my pc, when i sign in to yahoo, my sign-in seal is gone. does anyone know where the seal is stored in memory? i had thought it was stored in a file on the pc, but it acts like it's stored in ram. i wanted to ask yahoo itself, but am unable to locate the tech site. anyone know the web address, or where the link is?

need to install a driver for the smbus controller.

i have a sound blaster card and just found the drivers for it, but i still need the smbus controller driver.

my c-media ac97 audio device and via ac97 audio controller have drivers installed but cannot start. i only lack the bus controller drivers and i should get full sound working again. anyone know the source for these drivers that will do an auto install as i can't download to a cd and going to the desktop won't work.
