What is it really? Why is it important or not? I've often heard people say that countries like the US and Israel are model democracies; is that true? Are any countries? What is the role of the state/government in an ideal democracy? What is the role of the people?

If you could do anything in your wildest dreams, what would it be? Would it be a carreer? An adventure? A fantasy? A type of family life? An ideal way to spend your last minutes alive? The sky's the limit, so think well.

There are many people in the Answers community who are vehemently anti-racist, and there are also alot of people who are very derogatory to all sorts of "types" of people. In your opinion, why is it intollerable to be intollerant on the basis of race, or why is it an OK position to have?

I am interested in hearing from all sorts of people, but especially people in favor of the war. I don't want you to tell me why it began (or why you think it began, since there are alot of opinions) either, but why the US is there now.

Why do some people feel the need to preach the bible, attempt to discredit science, or condemn people to hell every time they answer a question? Does God keep a tally of people's internet proselytizing? Would it hurt just to chill out on the religious overtures? Do they think it wins converts or do they just do it to aggrivate normal people?

We hear over and over about how great republicans are for supporting "family values" but how then do we explain what's going down with Rep. Foley (Fla.) and the coverup among congressional GOP members? I mean, it's not just one guy involved at this point--lots of members of congress have been implicated in a cover-up. If "family values" are really so important to the GOP, then why would they cover this type of stuff up and try to hide it? Wouldn't they want to expose it? Also isn't it ironic that Foley was chairman of the committee for Missing and Exploited Children?

This question is very open-ended on purpose--I want to know how people would interpret this question as well as how they would answer. Thanks.

I asked this last night in politics, but got only one really bad answer, so I figured I'd give the social science category a try. No cut-and-paste from Wikipedia please (you will not get chosen as best if you do). Try to give at least a little background and significance--not just names and dates.

I've tried to log in over and over and it keeps saying that my friend ID is invalid or my account has been deleted. So I have tried to look at some of my friends' profiles and looks like they have been deleted too. Anyone else having these problems? I know I haven't violated terms and conditions or anything.

The lady with big hair, tight clothes, and a guitar who says "coochie, coochie" and did cameos on the Love Boat? What's her claim to fame, other than being really odd and energetic? What was the appeal that made her a minor celebrity?
