  • Kitty lost his home/family...?

    This past Sunday, I adopted a neutered, 5 year-old domestic short hair male cat. Two weeks prior, his owner (my good friend) was taken to the hospital, where she recently passed away of brain cancer. Her cat, Jake, was very shy to begin with and his "mom" not returning was very difficult for him. A short time later, his canine house-mate whom he was very close with, had to be put to sleep. Then family began pouring into the house, some staying for two weeks, which messed him up even more.

    Then I came into his life, packed him into a carrier and brought him to my home, where a large yellow lab, two chihuahuas and another neutered male cat already lives...needless to say, his world has been severely rocked! We set him up in the basement where it's quiet and the other animals wouldn't bother him. Items from his previous home were arranged nearby. He hid for two days. We found him and brought him upstairs and confined him and his things to the den, where he could hear more of our daily routines, smell the other pets and household odors to try and acclimate him to his new home, but I'm still very worried about him.

    He will lie still or sit on my lap, if I place him there, but trembles with fear constantly as I pet him. He does not purr or interact with us in any way. He is listless, disinterested and his coat is dull and due to the stress, is shedding wildly! There is no evidence that he has eaten or drank anything, but it does appear that he has used his litter box once.

    I understand his pain, fear and loss and know that it will take some time to overcome, but I'm concerned that his health could be in danger and would like to know if there is anything else we can do to comfort him and ease his transition.

  • Anyone try a DIY project to reshape a stock Harley seat?

    I just got a Harley FLHR Road King and being inseam-challenged and female, I need to make some seat modifications. Has anyone out there ever attempted to trim down the width and change the foam configuration on a stock Harley seat? I've looked at all the upgrade Harley seats and seats from other manufacturers, too, but I really don't like their look. I've found several websites showing pix and how-to instructions to make these changes and think the project is doable...just wondered if anyone else had ever taken it on or had any advise.

    Thanx =)

  • Suggestions for automotive/Harley Motorcycle-themed wedding?

    Is there anyone out there a lot more creative than me than can lend some advice?

    My fiance and I are brainstorming for ideas for all aspects of our car/bike outdoor fall wedding. We've got a lot of ideas, but would like to hear about suggestions and ideas for decorations, car and bike-themed music, amenities, favors, attire and any other little extra touches that you can think of that would really make the day uniquely our own would be gratefully appreciated.

    The only things carved in stone is that he's rolling up in his restored '72 Coupe DeVille and I'll roll up on my purple Harley. We're having a pig roast reception, followed by drinks, dancing and merriment. The rest is up for discussion.

    Thanks.

  • Help...Unable to stop mail from Y! group that I no longer belong to.?

    I had joined a group fairly recently... (sportsterowners@yahoogroups.com)...but found that I could not set the group mail to deliver daily digests or allow web-only access, so I decided that it really didn't fit my needs and withdrew.

    The group site no longer recognizes me as a member, but I have not been able, however, to stop the enormous barrage of mail that continues to pour in. My mail to the group is rejected and I can't reply to posts that I continue to receive via email.

    Is there a way to notify the moderators of this group to see if they can resolve this issue for me or some other advice anyone could give?

    I would be very grateful.

    Thanks in advance!.

  • Is it more economical...?

    ...to leave an outdoor hot tub at one consistent temperature (say 100 degrees) or to adjust it down to 97 for example, if the tub is not going to be used for a few days and then bring the temp back up just before use?

  • What could be wrong with my cat?

    My 11 year old neutered domestic short hair is very ill. He's in the "kitty hospital" on IV antibiotics for a very highly elevated white cell count. In the past two days, doctors have drained over 2 liters of fluid from his abdomen! He's refusing food and is dehydrated, but all the other values in his blood work are good. No FIP, feline leukemia...no fever and no masses or tumors can be seen on x-ray. All his organs appear intact and normal. My baby has stumped all 3 of his doctors! Does anyone have any similar experience with their cats or even any guesses as to what may be wrong?

  • Does anyone have color recommendations for a bathroom remodel?

    I'm completely gutting a full bath and redecorating...replacing everything except the tub, which is white. Installing new vanity base, sink, medicine cabinet, lighting, paint and/or wallpaper and flooring. I have a burgundy shower curtain and bathmat that I'd like to reuse. Could anyone suggest a color scheme that would work. It's not a well-lit room, but does have a large skylight. The room is approximately 6x8, not including the tub area.

    Thanx =)

  • Struggling with opening up my home?

    My fiance and I have a friend we've known for about 5 months. She went to my high school, but I didn't know her then. She's been living off her credit cards since losing her job over 2 years ago and the cards were recently cancelled by the issuers. She's being foreclosed on and will be evicted soon from her home. She has two girls (10 and 17)...plus a dog and cat. She asked yesterday if they could move in. She has two bachelors degrees, but refuses to look for employment outside her field and has no plans for her future. She doesn't want to move home with her parents.

    I have a large(ish) home, 4 pets of my own (2 are elderly/special needs/rescued) and my man and I are struggling, too, with him facing loss of his job next month and my job in jeopardy. We are trying to build a life together. I'd been hurt and used by roomates and relatives I'd opened my home to that were lazy freeloaders or stole from me and didn't respect my home or generosity. It breaks my heart to see anyone suffering as she is...but am I jaded by my previous experiences and being selfish and wrong to consider telling her no?

  • New home purchase in '07...Did I get dooped on my deductions?

    I bought a distressed, repossessed home in May 2007. I was not a first-time home buyer, but it was the first time I was the sole buyer (no co-owner). I withdrew a large sum from my 401k for a 20% downpayment, taxes, insurance, utility turn-ons, moving expenses, etc. In preparing my federal taxes with Turbo Tax, I was not allowed to deduct virtually any of my closing costs, prepaids, etc., which was contrary to my expectations, but the IRS website seemed to support it. After the fact research has turned up facts to support both sides of the arguement. Does anyone have the facts or similar personal experience?

  • My cat is so fat he can't clean his butt! Ideas?

    He's a Maine Coon, which is a large breed, but he's well over 20+ pounds and his kitty diet food has done little/nothing to help him. He's getting outside more now that the weather is nice and I play with him daily, but he's just too huge to reach back there. He's normally very sweet and relaxed, but come at him with a baby wipe or any intention of giving him a bath and he goes mountain lion on my a$$ (although I do suit up and bathe him about once every two weeks). He's disgusting and it's grossing me out! What else can I do to help him?
