  • Can I get a construction loan if I live on site?

I have a large piece of property (over 1-1/2 acres) that currently has a mobile home on it. I plan to live in the mobile home while a new home is being built.

However, my contractor tells me that I may not be able to get a construction loan to build the house if I live on the property. Anyone have experience with this?

It will be a while before I'm able to build, so I'm not ready to call up the various mortgage companies just yet.

  • If I had to find 10 truly good people, or else the world would be destroyed, could I?

I am losing my faith & need to be reassured that human beings are not the worst species on the planet. Thinking back on the story of Sodom and Gommorah, I wonder if I would be able to find 10 truly good people in today's day and time.

The turkey will be cooked on the smoker this Thanksgiving, so no turkey drippings. Any quick and easy recipes for a good giblet gravy?

  • Generic Yasmin, or is it generic Seasonale? How do I start this?

My doctor prescribed Yaz, which, the nurse said, is like Yasmin. Well, my stupid Aetna HMO doesn't cover either. It only covers what I'm currently taking and getting breakthrough bleeding from.

I searched online for a cheap alternative, and found aclepsa.com, which advertises cheap generics of major brands. I ordered their generic version of Yasmin, and got something called "Ovipauz-L." Its ingredients are Levonorgestrel I.P. 0.15mg and Ethinyloestradiol I.P. 0.03mg, the same ingredients as Seasonale, not Yasmin.

I received 4 packs of 21 pills, and no instructions or info booklet. I was going to take it like the Seasonale pill, though (84 days of active pills, 7 days of nothing). My real question is, do I start the first pack right after I finish my current b/c active pills, or wait until after my inactive period before starting?

  • How do I find out what my Mr. Green Jeans doll is worth without spending a lot on an appraisal?

I have a plush Mr. Green Jeans doll (from the Captain Kangaroo show) in good condition. I tried looking up the value in doll collectors' books, and also tried finding similar items on eBay, but no one seems to have Mr. Green Jeans.

I thought about taking it to an antique store, but I'm not really sure I want to sell, and if I did, I want to be sure I get a fair quote.

  • My 4-month-old hates getting baths. What can I do to make the experience less traumatic?

From day one, my baby has cried hysterically whenever we bathe her. (Even during her sponge baths the first 2 weeks!) We now bathe her in an infant/toddler tub that has a baby sling to support her. She doesn't mind the warm water running over her too much, but screams and cries through the rest of the process.

We tried bathing her in the sink, putting a warm washcloth on her chest while we bathed the rest of her, putting soft towels down in the tub, using a "soothing" aromatic baby wash, putting a space heater in the bathroom for bath time, and ditching the infant sling.

Still, she wails from the instant her toe hits the water until long after she's dried, lotioned, and clothed.

Any SERIOUS suggestions on how to make this process less of an ordeal? It's become a necessary ritual that both I AND baby dread!

  • Why do I have to pay back money put into my 401k?

My manager did not notify HR when I went on medical leave, so payroll continued to cut regular paychecks and deposit them into my 401k and bank accounts.

Well, I quit my job, and then HR started harassing me about paying the company back. So I wrote them a check for the wages paid me during my leave.

Two months later, I get a letter from the company, saying I owe them for what they put into my 401k, including the company match amount. WHY?

If I withdraw that money, I have to pay a penalty. If I take the money from my personal account, then it's like they're forcing me to make 401k contributions.

Can they legally force me to do this?

Serious answers only, please - "gamers" will be reported.

  • Why does my 11-week-old cry when I pick her up?

This doesn't happen every single time, but my baby starts to cry when she's being picked up. I looked her over, (head, neck, shoulders, back) and nothing seems to be physically wrong with her.

However, when I slide my hand under her and she knows she's going to be lifted, she crys. If she's already crying, when I pick her up, she will sometimes cry harder.

What's wrong? Is it the sensation of being lifted? Does it just trigger more fussiness? Am I actually hurting her? Is she just releasing some energy?

I don't get it. It's not just when I pick her up (she does this when my hubby and mother pick her up too), and it's not just when I pick her up a certain way. Again, it's not EVERYtime someone picks her up either, but she seems to cry about it more often than not.

She settles down after a short time while I'm holding her, but it's pretty distressing in the meantime.

  • Can a company bill its employee for money they overpaid because of their own mistakes?

I went on medical leave back in March and decided to terminate my employment in May. HR tells me that the company mistakenly paid me for longer than they should have. Now they want to bill me for all the wages, plus the portion of medical benefits the company paid on my behalf. Can they legally charge me thousands of dollars when it was their error?
