  • Got my first ultrasound; have a subchorionic clot next to pregnancy sac. Anyone been in a similar situation?

The doctor confirmed and I'm pregnant and the fetus seems fine and perfect in size and development for 5 wks 3 days. However there was a subchorionic clot next to the sac. The clot and fetus are both very tiny right now. But the doctor has asked me to take it easy, which means no exercise(i worked out quite avidly otherwise) and no sexual activity for the next 2 weeks. I'm scheduled for another visit 2 weeks later, and am hoping the issue is resolved.

I have been reading up a lot of forums and posts online and while there are several stories of the clot being nothing out of the ordinary, I did read of several people being on bedrest or pelvic rest till 20 weeks! That's a bit of a scary thought for me as I was hoping to be active(please do not read this as over-exertion, but just regular moderate activity) throughout my pregnancy.

I would really appreciate if someone had a similar experience and their clot passed/disappeared sooner than 20 weeks. It would help me worry less till my next appointment.

    Thanks in advance!

  • I'm 4 weeks pregnant. Can I continue running for at least another 4-5 weeks?

I am not a natural runner - I can't run fast or sprint. I started a running regime only 5 years ago(I was 27, now I'm 32). I ran a couple of half marathons in 2005 and then even a full marathon in 2006. All this has always been at a gentle pace of ~5 mph.

I kept running off and on but I slacked on it in 2008 quite a bit, especially in the latter half. In 2009, I have gotten back to running. But because I'd gone so easy on general exercise, I also started a rigorous routine of strength conditioning, yoga pilates along with other cardio activities like spinning and dancing. I have been running and have ramped up my running to about 20 miles/week for the last 4-5 weeks.

Given my background, is it OK and safe to continue my running? I'm fully aware of issues as heating and dehydration and I drink plenty of water for that.

  • I'm having some nausea. Could I be pregnant?

First day of my last period was Aug 29 - so 2.5 weeks ago. And I'm not really trying to get pregnant, but you never know!

The only reason I want to ask this is because since last Fri, I have been feeling nauseous off and on. I've thrown up just once, but I need to come out for fresh air every now and then. I'm thinking of going and doing an EPT, but just wanted to see if I'm even correct in my guessing....

  • Computer has slowed down and I am trying to remove some programs?

When I do add/remove programs in control panel, I see two versions of Outlook:

    - Microsoft Outlook 2003

    Size: 270 MB

    Used: rarely

    Last Used on: 2/1/2006

    - Microsoft Outlook Standard Edition 2003

    Size: 213 MB

    Used: frequently

    Last Used on: 11/30/2007

I am wondering if it's safe to remove the "rarely used" version without affecting my emails.

  • How can I prepare my body prior to pregnancy?

I would like to have a healthy pregnancy, and a natural delivery. I am generally in decent physical shape and work out regularly.

Is there any thing I can do to make sure that I have a good healthy pregnancy and a natural childbirth. I would prefer not to have an epidural - are there any particular muscle groups I could work out to make sure I have an easier time "pushing".

  • Do you expect Emma Watson to have a long acting career?

I know she's a sweetheart for millions in her role as Hermione Granger, but I feel she has a very narrow skill-set. I seriously doubt her ability to extend her success beyond the Potter movies.

Dan Radcliffe on the other hand is poised to be around for a long time in a diverse set of roles. What do you think about the other Harry Potter actors too:

    Rupert - maybe, maybe not

Bonnie - pretty much like Emma

Tom Felton - I think he has more to offer and will probably do so

  • Harry Potter movies: What are the scenes you'd like to see in the Half Blood Prince?

Obviously, this question is only for fans who read the books, so please resist answering if you haven't read the books.

Since the movie script will have to be a trimmed version of the books, what scenes do you feel are crucial to the series and must be retained in the movie version of "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince".

  • Harry Potter Canon: Daniel, Rupert or Emma - who plays their character best?

Question open only to fans of books who have seen the movies.

Who do you think has remained most faithful to their book characters?

    - I feel Rupert is best as Ron - he has completely slipped in Ron's skin and does a great job portraying the thickheaded, but enthusiastic and loyal Ron.

    - Daniel also, I feel works very hard to be Harry, and does it commendably well.

    - In my opinion, Emma was a great Hermione till movies 1,2 and even 3 to some extent. After that she has become very "pretty and cute", especially following the Yule Ball. I wish she would make an effort to be her character Hermione.

  • Harry Potter qs:Daniel as Harry, Emma as Hermione, Rupert as Ron - who plays their character closest to canon?

I would like to ask the fans of Harry Potter books about what they think of the character portrayals of Harry, Ron and Hermione by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson respectively.

    Who acts closest to canon?

Who has managed to internalize the essence of his/her character?

Question open only to people who have both, read the book and watched the movies.

  • How did the Death Eaters know that Harry and Ginny had broken off?

In Half Blood Prince, Harry's getting together with Ginny was as public as it could be. Not only the Gryffindors, but the entire school knew about it too - references including Slughorn approving of Ginny and overlooking Harry's sub-par work at Potions, Snape holding Harry back for retentions so he doesn't get to spend time with her, and Dumbledore's funeral which is attended by who's who of the wizarding world shows Harry and Ginny holding hands and being together.

Contrast to that, Harry's breaking off with Ginny was a very quiet and subtle. Unless Harry made a public declaration(which he didn't) that he was not seeing Ginny Weasley any more, the Death Eaters had every reason to believe that she was his girl friend.

Why then, did they not go after her in order to trace Harry?

  • My newly adopted year-old kitty is too mischievous. How can I train him to be obedient?

I recently adopted a year-old kitty from a shelter. We already had a 7-year old cat, who is very friendly, docile and well-behaved. He has been with other cats before and is extremely tolerant.

The new kitty is boisterous and playful, which is accepted at his age. However, I am having trouble controlling him. He also hits the older cat in his playfulness. Some of these are severe scratches. The older guy only paws back in self-defense and mostly walks away from the little one's assaults.

The little one also pays no heed to me or my husband - when we got him he was scared and insecure and we let him be for the first couple of weeks, so he could find his bearings before we imposed rules.

I really need to train the little one. We love his playfulness, but his bashing our older kitty is troubling us. We would also like to draw some limits (like he can't sit on some of the furniture, or climb on kitchen counter tops and knock off food).

    Any advice?

  • No Golden Globe nominations for "The Fountain"??

I just checked the list of nominees for 2006 Golden Globe Awards. I am surprised and aghast that the only nomination "The Fountain" has is for the best musical score(well deserved). But how about the brilliant acting by Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz and the superior direction. What do you think?

  • "The Fountain": why are professional reviewers so uncharitable towards it ?

I am amazed about the reaction the movie has been getting - it is very divided for sure. I have scoured the net for reviews about the movie, and have noticed a trend. Most professional critics who write for mainline dailies and magazines have panned the movie. While people like us who have actually seen it and posted reviews are mostly raving about it. Yes, there are some who didn't like it as much or are confused, but they still seem to be appreciating the movie. Once they see it, of course. However, I feel the universally bad reviews by reviewers are keeping others from just going to the theaters.

Does anyone understand why this could be happening? I'm really amazed by the divide.

  • What would be a good gift for a new born baby?

My cousin had a baby boy recently, and I will be seeing the new baby next week. I would like to take a nice gift, but can't figure what to buy.

    1. My cousin is going to relocate to a different country shortly, and so it wouldn't make sense to buy stuff that they will find had to carry with them.

    2. I would like to get something "nice"; something precious and valuable; that would be remembered even later.

    3. Budget is not much of an issue.

Would really appreciate suggestions, with specific links.
