  • 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX engine broke down, is it worth replacing?

I have been quoted $6000 to replace the engine block on a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX at the local Subaru dealership. The cost of the part is $2000, labor another $4000. I've also been told that related damages could take another $2000 to repair, bringing the total to $8000. This happened due to a lack of engine oil. Which makes most sense to you?

    1) Buy another used car for the same money it costs to repair this one and get rid of this. Based on experience, this car needs a little more care and attention than I really want to give. But I am not sure how to dispose and salvage the remaining value of this car. It's not in working condition.

    2) Have an independent mechanic fix it rather than depend on the dealer. It seems like 2/3 of the costs are labor related and there are independent mechanics who are could do the job cheaper. Unfortunately, I live in Los Angeles, where there are very few shops knowlegeable about Subaru.

What makes the most sense to you?

    Thanks for your help!

  • Can the motor head extension of canister vacuum cleaner - Eureka 6900 series - be easily replaced?

The motor head is spitting out rubbish and pushing out dust. The base canister unit seem to be working properly. I checked and the vacuum dust bag is fine and does not need to be changed yet. I believe the fault is in the extension with the motor head. I've browsed some websites and do not see it offered as an accessory. Do you think it could be replaced? Thanks.

  • What do I do if someone hits my car?

I've had two instances happen this year in Los Angeles, CA. The first time someone was driving too fast and hit me from behind and the second time someone backed out from a parking lot and hit me. Both drivers drove off before I could stop them. I was afraid and hesitated to get out of my car soon enough, giving them a chance to flee.

What can I do better next time? Should I jump out of the car immediately and confront them? Should I take down their license plate information? Copy down their driver's license number? Should I put a camera in my car just in case, so if they flee, I can take a picture still?
