  • Even though I was not the one physically or verbally assaulted, could I get a restraining order?

I just found out my sister last night has been verbally abused by her ex for the past two years, they continue to keep in contact with each other. She still shows signs that she loves him and has been showing signs that she has been hooked on drugs from this guy. They had rented a home from my parents in another state and when my mom went down to check on the house, the ex and my mother got into a verbal altercation where the ex accused my mom of assaulting him and the place were called. He ended up being arrested on another charge for threatening someone else.

Since hearing about this, I have been in extreme fear for my sister's well being as well as my mom because he knows where they live. He also knows where I live and has contacted me in recent months trying to locate my sister.

Is there a way for myself to get a no-contact or restraining order to prevent him from contacting me even though he hasn't physically or verbally hurt me? I'm working on finding some help for my sister in what's going on with her, I doubt she would get a restraining order but the way she has been acting has been very scary, she sleeps with the phone waiting for him to call.

  • Check missing dollar amount written out, will bank most likely take it?

I received a partial refund of my deposit I put down for a venue for an event I had booked but later had to cancel.

I took it to the bank to cash but didn't notice until then, the bank also noticed, that the check did NOT include the amount of the check in written words. It just had the numbercal amount. The bank wouldn't allow me to cash it as I wanted to pay some bills right away and not wait for it to appear in my checking (my account is with the same bank I went to cash the check). They said that the bank may decline the check because it's not written out in words so the only choices they gave me was to deposit it and wait, or ask for a new check which could take a few weeks since the venue is out of my state.

Will the bank (Bank of America) most likely accept the check?

  • Pain in center of ribs when I swallow food?

A few days ago, I noticed that I feel a pain in the middle of my rib cage when I swallow food. It doesn't happen when I swallow air, spit, drink or anything like that. The best way to describe the pain is if you take your knuckle and push it into the thinnest part of your body, that kind of pressure. It's only for an instant. The pain also kind of feels like when you have a piece of food stuck in your throat.

Anyone experience this or know what it could be from?

  • A potential employer asked my availability for training at the end of our interview, is that a good sign?

I interviewed for a banking position the other day and it went very well. It was the most extensive interview I've ever had, about 45 questions about different work situations scenarios I have had in the past. It seems like I clicked very well with the interviewers and showed that I am a hard worker as well as a person that can easy get along with.

When it was time to ask questions, I asked a few including what the employers sees as the biggest challenges I'll probably face in the first 90 days and it appeared the way he answered that either I should be fine with the skill set I do have as well as my personality to be able to interact with people or any problems I do find, I could easily overcome which was great. He then asked me about my availability for training. I thought that was cool because if he didn't think I would be a fit for consideration, he wouldn't have even brought it up.

Is that a good sign? :)

  • I interviewed for a job on Monday and was told by the interviewer that she really liked me...?

and that she thinks I would be a great fit for the company. She said she will let me know either way by Friday (day after tomorrow). I sent a thank you email to her the night of the interview, thanking her for her time and that I would love to work for her. As imagined, this has been a very slow week waiting for a response and it was suggested to me that I also give her a call tomorrow morning to express interest again in the position. Do you think I should or would an email PLUS a phone call is too excessive. As I mentioned, two people recommended I call as well to just show I am very interested.

  • A friend shared a private video on youtube but I cannot watch it?

I received a note saying a friend shared a private video of some computer animation he did. When I go to my profile and click on the note saying that a video was shared with me, a red notice comes up saying This video is private. Shouldn't I be able to see it since it was shared with me? Do they have to be a friend on Youtube to be able to view it despite it being shared?

  • Myspace not responding to trademark complaints, what do you think I should do?

I located someone who is illegally using my company trademarked name on Myspace and saying they are the official myspace page of the page. I have sent an email demanding its removal to the infringer. When that didn't get a reply. I sent a trademark complaint to Myspace. They responded saying I needed to fill out a complaint form and they would forward it to the infringer and I had to wait 3 days to get a response. That didn't come, so I contacted Myspace again and requested that they continue the process of getting the material removed, they advised that they would need to do a Review and Adjudication process and I would have to wait an additional 10 days, they would forward this to the user and if no response to contact them. The 10 day period passed on September 27th and repeated emails to Myspace to have the material removed has gone through no reply from myspace. Before, they would always reply within a few hours or a day at the maximum.

Should I send a cease and desist letter to myspace personally to have them remove the material. Facebook removed the items within a day. Myspace is just dragging out the process.

  • Would "way of life" (ie. 'surfing is the way of life') a verb or adjective?

I want to create a t-shirt where on the front is gives the actual definition of a word, for example, on the front it would say:

    surf·ing   [sur-fing]

    –noun

the act or sport of riding the surf, as on a surfboard.

and then on the back, it would give the example in the question

    surf·ing   [sur-fing]

    –verb/adjective

    the way of life.

and I just want to have the correct syntax to the "way of life" saying

  • Taking out a loan will raise my credit score?

I am considering taking out a loan to help with expanding my business. ($15,000). I currently have about $1,500 in debt over two credit cards and an existing loan that I will be paying off for my business. Curious to know how it may affect my credit score, I ran a credit simulation and it estimated that taking out the $15,000 loan would raise my credit score about 4 points.

I currently use a monitoring service that tracks the Transunion credit score. I know they all have different formulas so an exact number of points can't be definite but could a loan like that actually RAISE my score? I factored in the credit inquiry into the calculation and it still went up.

    Any theories would be great.

  • Are "secret recipies" legal? What about health risks?

I've been wondering this for awhile and have decided to ask it. While I understand why food companies have secret recipies, like KFC, Coca-Cola etc. What I'm wondering is, what if someone were to have an allergic reaction to one of those secret ingredients? Because they didn't know about it, they couldn't make a decision whether or not to eat the product or not. How would that be handled? Could a court require the ingredients to be revealed if it ever went to a court situation?

  • incorporating in arkansas?

I wish to incorporate my business as a foreign corporation in the state of Arkansas.

I researched my business name and saw that a previous name was revoked in 1997. I read elsewhere on the Arkansas corporate site that a revoked name prior to December 31, 1999 can not be registered for 15 years. My question is, would I NOT be allowed to register that name even though I was not the registrant of the revoked name?
