  • Univ freshman needs laptop: Windows or Mac?

Need plenty of memory for her photo/video/music addiction, of course. I'm also I'm concerned she won't keep up w/ security & cleaning issues necessary for Windows. And as far as the MacIntosh goes, I'm clueless. I've been told they're a bit more secure than Windows...?...and more expensive?

Dell, which means Windows 7, may be our only option b/c of financial reasons (I have a Dell credit card & a $13,000 tuition both due NOW). She would prefer a Mac, but she's not adamant about it.

I didn't pin down a specific reason from her. Share the knowledge with me, please!

  • Is a pelvic exam required by most docs prior to prescribing the pill?

I'm speaking of docs in the US. Would a Fam Phys or GYN put my 18 yo daughter on the pill based on her symptoms, history and need for birth control without doing a pelvic and a pap test? She refuses to have one done and says, "it will traumatize me". She's half joking, half kidding but the whole pelvic exam idea does freak her out. She's had a breast exam before (which is more icky to me) and she did fine. Of course, I know she needs one and I stress to her the need but I'm just curious as to what, say, a Family Phys. or GYN would do.

  • How do I...?

How do I remove scorch marks from my porcelain/glass-top stove? I've tried some stuff called "Weiman Glass Cook Top Cleaner" and it doesn't work. Any suggestions?

  • In NC, motorcycles have to ride w/ their headlights on in the daytime,?

but do they have to be on brights? It seems like every motorcycle I see during the day has on their brights. I hate that and if it blinds people then it doesn't seem safe to me!
