How to tell is a question is resolved, open, ...?
Ever since YAHOO updated yahoo answers, I can't tell whether or not a question is closed or open, or whether or not that I got a best answer without clicking on the tabs or literally on the question.
I like that I can comment on other answers now, but I don't get a notification when someone else comments, so I have to continuously go through all my questions more than once to check them.
Did they get rid of the voting system?

In a true or false test, there are 12 questions. If a student decides to check six of each at random, in how many ways can he do it?
Would I do (12 choose 6)?
1 AnswerHomework Help8 years agoHow can we get people to choose best answers for their questions?
Instead of forgetting about them and it goes to voting.

When solving a differential equation using a series solution,
I got two answers.
sum(n=0..infinity) ((4^n)(x^2n))/(2n)! and

Dissolving NH4NO3????
When you dissolve the mentioned salt into water, the temperature goes down.
Let's say I had 100 mL of water (100g) and dissolved 1 gram of ammonium nitrate.
A thermometer was inside the cup.
I measure the change in temperature to be ( -0.8 C).
Using q=mcdeltat, I decided to use 101g for the mass.. (water plus salt) and get a negative q.
.. confused.
1 AnswerChemistry9 years agoEndothermic and Exothermic reactions?
I don't know if I am making this harder or not and my question I asked earlier today did not help much.
So Let's try again. My teacher says:
An endothermic reaction absorbs heat. So it feels cold. q is a positive value.
An exothermic reaction releases heat. So it feels hot. q is a negative value.
So when dissolving NH4NO3 into water, the temperature decreases,
Using mc delta t, you will retrieve a negative q value because final is lower than initial, so it is deemed an exothermic reaction so says my teacher.
Confused. Because it is cold. It should be endo.
2 AnswersHomework Help9 years agoEndothermic and Exothermic reactions. Teacher is wrong?
My chemistry teacher is messing things up and I just want to clarify some things. It is very confusing.
An exothermic reaction releases heat. So it feels hot.
An endothermic reaction absorbs heat. So it feels cold.
I did an experiment in which I put a thermometer into a solution while the salt dissolved. The temperature of the solution (system decreased).
My teacher said that the decrease in temperature resulted in energy leaving the system.
We got a negative q. (m c delta t)
Does that mean cold packs are exothermic reactions and hot pack are endothermic reaction?
3 AnswersChemistry9 years agoCircuits with diodes and resistors?
A red light-emitting diode (LED) has a forward voltage drop of 1.80V and has to be operated with a 10.0 mA diode current. Shown below is the possible scheme for operating it from a 9.0-volt ideal voltage source.
Calculate the resistance R that will ensure the desired operating conditions.
I'll explain it. 9v connected in series to a 300 ohm resistor. That is connected to these two things. The two things are in parallel. A 600 ohm resistor and a resistor (R) with the LED..
I need to find R.. I used Thevenin.. but the answer doesnt seem to work when I solve the entire circuit...
1 AnswerPhysics9 years agoFree fall physics problem?
As you are driving to school one day, you pass a construction site for a new building and stop to watch for a few minutes. A crane is lifting a batch of bricks on a pallet to an upper floor of the building. Suddenly, a brick falls of the rising pallet. You clock the time it takes for the brick to hit the ground at 2.5 seconds. The crane, fortunately, had height markings and you see the brick fell off the pallet at a height of 22 meters above the ground. A falling brick can be dangerous, and you wonder how fast the brick was going when it hit the ground. You quickly calculate the answer...
So my problem with this is if there is enough info to solve because apparently, the brick appears to rise, so it will have a nonzero velocity at 22m above the ground.

1 AnswerMythology & Folklore10 years agoHow in the world was this college essay accepted?
Simplicity.
So, I am sitting here. I’ve fought long and hard with my mind on the perfect essay that this would have become. Thousands of topics have scrolled through my mind, but each one suffered at least one of the three types of writer’s block. It was either that I couldn’t connect with the topics at a personal level, that I couldn’t back it up with outstanding examples, or I suddenly woke up and reread the introduction that made me fall asleep. It’s obvious I don’t like to be boring. I just don’t understand why I couldn’t do the simple task of writing something that has changed my life or how someone that I looked up to influenced the rest of my post-secondary career.
To be honest, I am very glad that I have teachers who don’t mind to take a little time to look over my work because the essay I was going to turn in was too “priggish.” I suppose that isn’t a good thing since I had to think of a brand new topic to write about. I wanted to stay away from the cliché essay topics about medical problems such as how a loved one developed terminal cancer even though it is very poignant to me, so I took a route that led me to criticizing cashiers and waitresses. That definitely didn’t rub off the way I wanted it to, so I tossed it. There was something about this one essay that needed to be unique because it was this one-shot thing that determined the rest of my life. When I write about sad things, I sound miserable; when I write about things that I feel strongly about, I sound too critical. So here I am, stuck in the mind of an indecisive 17-year old kid who has nothing better to do than to check his Facebook page after every sentence.
But then I had this crazy idea. What if I just started to write random information and events that happened in my life? I went down the checklist of a good college essay, and I pretty much had everything but coherence. I thought about it for awhile, and then for some strange reason I started thinking about Twinkies. Then it hit me – I could say that I do not have a coherent personality because the more randomness that is in my life, the better I seem to be. I sometimes feel that this quirk of mine relates to my thinking capacity and high performance in school. Though I could be wrong and could have just found an elementary explanation to why I am smart.
My intellect can be used for good or bad. Once in awhile, there are times in my life where I need more than just a chortle. One time on a Halloween night, my Grandmother was washing make-up off her face, and I put on the costume that she bought me a few months before to scare her. I told my mom to get her video camera, and she followed me upstairs to create one of the best Halloweens yet. Yes, I scared my Grandmother so bad that some of the things and words she said were ironic since she was a nun thirty minutes before the incident. As every other great video of mine resides, it went on YouTube. I enjoy laughter when the other person thinks it is funny too, but there are times when I actually have a serious attitude.
As a senior at high school, I have been through a lot of assignments, teaching methods, and classes that require a whole new level of perspective. The thing that kept me from going completely insane was the fact that I had older and more experienced students guiding me along the way so I don’t struggle. Being the person I am, I listened in on the conversations about the tenth grade English teacher who is very strict in her grading policy. I also heard to make sure my work was turned in on time because even if it were turned in three seconds later, she would mark it as “LATE”. Since I was given a bunch of pointers about surviving high school, I try and do the same with the younger ones now because I know it is very useful. I even stay after school every week for National Honor Society to tutor those who need it where some advice is usually twisted in with teaching the material. I don’t like to see kids failing classes, so I help them, and I know I help them because they don’t come back the following week unless they aren’t coming back since I scared them.
A lot of my friends perceive me as different, and I accept that. I don’t see it as a bad thing, but more of an advantage to help me succeed in life and bring new ideas to the table. In the future, I see myself as being a physics teacher or professor; although, there may be a lot of other opportunities I just haven’t come across yet. If I keep my mind wide open with a smile on my face, there is no doubt that I will take advantage and excel whatever crosses my path as long as it isn’t another admissions essay.
