  • Accounting Help (R&D Expense)?

Thomas More Company incurred the following costs during the current year in connection with its research and development activities.

Cost of equipment acquired that will have alternative

uses in future R&D projects over the next 5 years

    (uses straight-line depreciation) $280,000

Materials consumed in R&D projects 59,000

Consulting fees paid to outsiders for R&D projects 100,000

Personnel costs of persons involved in R&D projects 128,000

Indirect costs reasonably allocable to R&D projects 50,000

Materials purchased for future R&D projects 34,000

Compute the amount to be reported as research and development expense by More on its current year income statement. Assume equipment is purchased at the beginning of the year.

what is the total to be expensed for R&D in 2014?

i already tried to add them all up - 651,000 (was wrong) and also tried all the numbers besides indrect costs and materials purchased for future at 567,000 (which was also wrong)

  • Accounting homework - deprecation?

Holt Company purchased a computer for $8,000 on January 1, 2013. Straight-line depreciation is used, based on a 5-year life and a $1,000 salvage value. In 2015, the estimates are revised. Holt now feels the computer will be used until December 31, 2016, when it can be sold for $500.

    Compute the 2015 depreciation.

im lost on this... thank you!

  • Accounting homework help?

Cominsky Company purchased a machine on July 1, 2015, for $28,000. Cominsky paid $200 in title fees and county property tax of $125 on the machine. In addition, Cominsky paid $500 shipping charges for delivery, and $475 was paid to a local contractor to build and wire a platform for the machine on the plant floor. The machine has an estimated useful life of 6 years with a salvage value of $3,000.

Determine the depreciation base of Cominsky’s new machine. Cominsky uses straight-line depreciation.

    Find the Depreciation Base

--- i see its supposed to be the original value - the salvage value however when i put in 25,000 i got the answer wrong. im assuming im supposed to add in some of the additional charges with purchasing the machine just not sure which ones

    thank you
