If they ask to search it you can simply say no. They do need a search warrent as long as its locked.

There are lots of exceptions to search warrants when it involves vehicles. But all searches must be based on probable cause. The mere presence of a lock box or safe in your car does not rise to the level of probable cause.

yes but they can ask for your permission, if they search anyway and find something then it would not hold up in court. I have seen cars in Mississippi pulled over with all the belongings laying beside the car, if they have probable cause I believe they will search anyway, then if you put up a fuss then a warrant can be requested. regardless even if you are innocent you will be detained for a long time.

It depends upon the circumstances but if they have the grounds to pull you over they will normally be able to find some way to get the warrant to search it.

Ok--depends on the situation. if they have reasonable suspicion and reasonable cause that you have something in there, yes they can search it. but if you are stopped for a traffic violation, they must ask you if they can search your car. You can say "you can search everything but the safe" or "you can search everything but the jockey box" and legally they cant open it without a drug dog telling them you have drugs in there. or you have a bunch of money and they think drugs are in there. But if there is no real cause, they cannot search it.

If they have reason to believe something illegal is in it then no. If they ask you to search it and you consent then no they dont need one. But if they ask you and you say NO you cant search it (remember if they ASK YOU then you have the right to say no) then they do need a warrant to search it.

No, if they are doing random checkpoint and there is a reasonable belief that you are into something unlawful (obvious/prima facie evidence).
