  • Difficulty Removing Wallpaper Above Stairs?

    Hi

I have recently purchased a terraced house. Every wall in the house is covered in very dated wallpaper and I wish to remove it. So far this has been going quite well, until today when I have reached the stairs.

The paper on the stairs is wood chip, and it is coming off fairly easily using a wallpaper stripper. The problem is I cannot reach the wallpaper above the stairs as the ceilings are very high, and I do not feel that there is any where safe to use a ladder. I even brought one of the ladders specifically designed for different uses including stair cases and this has barely helped.

I'm hoping someone will have tackled this issue before and can pass on their advice.

  • Difficulty deciding on a new surname?

    Hi

I have never liked my surname as that and my forename are both probably the most common names in England. Im sure most people will be able to guess what they are.

For a very long time I have wanted to change my surname, the only difficulty is deciding on what to.

Sensible suggestions are welcomed and would be appreciated, or advice on how to decide.

  • Constructive criticism required on my CV's Personal Statement?

    Hi

I would appreciate it if those experienced with writing and using curriculum vitaes would offer constructive criticism on my personal statement which I have just written.

    It was previously this:

I am an experienced team leader and I have three years experience of assisting in the management of a business. I am computer literate and have excellent keyboard skills and I am capable of using various software packages. I find it very easy to adapt to most situations. I work well in a team, but I also work well on my own using my own initiative. I always aim to provide great customer service and have an excellent telephone manner. I pay close attention to detail, and can quickly solve problems. I am a reliable, organised, punctual and hardworking person, who is a fast learner and always keen to learn new skills.

    It is now this:

An experienced manager with four years of experience in retail, three of those being at a senior level. A history of catering and providing excellent customer service, while ensuring that the highest standards are achieved and that goals and targets are met.

Continuously taking pride in ensuring that all products and services offered are of the best quality, as expected by the company and the customer. Experience of recruitment, training and managing a team of up to thirty staff. A reliable, punctual, highly motivated and very hardworking individual who is always quick to learn new skills and works well under pressure.

    Does something seem missing?

I would also appreciate some advice on writing the best possible covering letters. I usually find them quite difficult to write and end up with a huge chunk of my personal statement being in it.

    Thanks

  • Cash Loan Private Lender?

    Hi

I require a private lender to loan me £1500 cash urgently. In two months time I can pay back to the lender the full amount of the loan and an agreed amount of interest.

The reason for the loan is it is the final amount which I need for a deposit to buy a house which I am very interested in. I have a fantastic credit rating but it would be stupid me getting the loan from a bank as having a loan would reduce the amount of mortgage which I would be able to get. I do have an available overdraft facility of £1500 but I cannot use that as my mortgage advisor says that again, it would lower the amount of mortgage which I would be able to get. The way to use my overdraft would be, I receive a private loan, and once the sale of the house has gone through I could pay back the lender with the overdraft.

An offer has now been made on the house which I like, and I have seven days to make a higher offer. So the loan is required quite urgently.

Can anyone point me in the direction of where I can find something along these lines? It must be in the UK, and not a scam.

I am willing to formalise the agreement on paper and have it witnessed and approved by a solicitor.

    Many Thanks

    James

  • Buying a Currently Running Business?

    Hi.

I am quite new to this, but I just want someone to give me the basic information.

I have seen a business for sale on a website which is specifically for sellers to list their businesses on.

It is a Chip Shop, I know that I could easily run it, as I have experience in both management and catering. The asking price seems quite reasonable, and the yearly turn over is very good, but there clearly is room for improvement, such as extended opening hours.

I am a manger in a large company now, but obviously that is very different to owning and running your own business.

What do I do step by step to purchase the business, from first seeing it.

Who do I need to get involved, I would be requiring a business loan from the bank.

What sort of deposit is usually required for that, I do have a sum of money but I would want to now if it is enough.

    What licenses would be required.

    I am in the UK.

Hopefully someone who has done this before can provide the advice which I need.

    Thanks.

  • Wall Marked After Removing Dado Rail?

    Hi Guys.

Im doing a bit of DIY in the lounge.

When I moved in to the house there was a dado rail around the middle of the room and the fire place wasn't centre.

Ive taken down all of the dado rail and brought a beautiful new fire suite.

Only problem is, after removing the dado rail the wall is left with marks where the wall above and below was painted to the dado rail.

The dado was only glued on so it came off easily enough, no screw holes or missing plaster.

I sampled painting a spot, and as expected, the marks can be seen.

So, I tried sanding the "dado area" with an electric sander, then put on a coat of paint, it still seems to be visible.

Will it be hidden if I use lots of coats of paint?

Before I sanded the area, rubbing my hand across the wall, the gap could clearly be feels. But after sanding it, it felt very smooth, so I am surprised that the marks are still showing.

Help with this would be very much appreciated, I want my walls to look as good as possible.

    Thanks.

  • Creda Expression Oven Igniter Not Working?

    Hi.

I have a Creda Expression oven. It is the sort where it is a stand alone unit, with the four hobs on top, grill beneath in a door and then the oven beneath that in a separate door. It s standard work surface high. Im not sure of the age.

For quite a while now the igniter doe not work for the whole appliance, the hobs, grill, or the oven. Everything else works fine. So I have to light it by turning the gas on low and using a match.

Obviously I don't want to be doing this forever.

For a time when it was not working, when the igniter button was pressed, there would be a clicking noise for as long as the button is held in. Now there is no noise.

I have checked the battery, the battery goes in the front of the appliance at the bottom, Ive changed it and still it does not work.

    Has anyone got any ideas?

I don't want to call out an engineer as this could be quite simple to solve, and Im sure they would charge extortionate rates.

    Thank You.

  • Ebay Seller Causing Problems?

I recently won a paypal claim on an item that brought off ebay. I paid for the item but never received it.

So I got my refund about a week ago.

And now Ive just logged in to my ebay account and discovered that the seller who I won my claim against for not receiving what I paid for, has filed an unpaid item dispute!

    How can this happen?

What can I do about it?

Is there any way to contact ebay directly about this?

  • Ebay Seller Causing Problems?

I paid for a book on ebay about three weeks ago.

The problem is that I havent received it.

Ive been in regular contact with the seller and they said that that they had sent it, but theyd send another one anyway.

That one didnt turn up either.

I confirmed my address with the seller, he had the correct address.

He was instantly replying to every email that I was sending him, untill I mentioned a refund that is.

He hasnt yet said that he wont give me a refund in those exact words.

But he does keep on saying how he sent the books, and typing it in capital letters, which I take to be rudeness.

He keeps avoiding the subject of a refund.

I took the advice of some people that answered my previos question and filed a dispute through Paypal.

As expected, he still hasnt repsonded.

    What should I do now.

Hes ignoring all correspondance from me.

Will I deffinately get my money back after filing a dispute?

  • Please help me with Seborrheic Eczema!?

Im 18 and Ive suffered with Seborrheic Eczema for at least 5 years. Ive been to the doctor and have been prescirbed many different treatments over the years.

I suffer from it on my eye lids, in my ears, my scalp, and to my severe embarassment, on my face...

I was prescribed Nizoral shampoo from the Dr, and that instantly cleared up the scalp, where I used to suffer from it badly.

My face is the area that causes me the worst discomfort. It doesnt itch at all. It only feels tight after washing. If it wasnt for the redness you wouldnt be able to tell its there. I have the redness over my nose and my cheeks, in a big patch. It doesnt hurt at all.

Im too embarassed by it to live my life. I quit college because of it, as I always feel people are looking at my face because of the redness. I dont dare go for good jobs or socialise because of my face. Ive cut my self off from all of my friends. I even struggle with just walking through town or going shopping.
