  • Can you fill land above a septic drain field?

    I'm going to be buying a house with a front sloping yard. I could easily level it out as the slope is not that drastic however this would require adding close to 3ft of fill above the septic drain field. Is this possible, or will it slow the drainage?

    How much does should it cost to demo a large shed?

    I am buying a home that has a large shed in the back. The loan is FHA and the appraiser requires it be torn down or repaired. This is an old shed close to 100 years old and was built with all 2x4s with many rotting pieces so fixing it would cost the same as rebuilding a new one. The shed is approx 15x24 in an L shape. I'm working with a contractor for the other repairs and he quoted me at $7,500 for a full demo, I said leave the floors and he brought it down to $5,500. This seems like a rather large amount especially looking around online I was expecting 2-3k at most. Is his quote realistic? Im under a deadline so I had him write it up but I most likely will do it myself or find someone with a excavator to come in and just crush it.

  • why would a tree flower only on one side?

    I believe it is a white dogwood, one side has many flowers the other side only has about 2-3 flowers and one branch did not flower at all. The tree appears to be healthy and is budding leaves throughout.

  • What is the name of this odd plant?

    I found this plant growing in central NJ, the only above ground part is a black ball ranging in size from a marble to a mid sized potato. The ball is textured with a pattern of what looks like 4 triangle parts with a point in the center. When large ones are cut open the flesh inside is white and has purple/white seeds about the size of a small marble. the above ground part is connected to a thick stem which also is a black color but only about 1/2" is above ground, I was unable to find the root structure. The area was somewhat sandy and typically a wet area. I have been unable to find a picture of it and am not sure how to search for something like it.

  • Should I pursue a degree in Botany?

    Right now I'm currently in my first year of college majoring in biology (school does not offer associates in botany) and I am looking to then transfer to another school to get my bachelors in botany. I am basically looking to learn how to grow but also help nourish plants using traditional methods as well as hydroponics and others that may exist (not GMO). Is botany the right field to gain this knowledge? And if you are a botanist do you enjoy the work you do? What is your current work?

    Thanks ahead of time for any answers it is much appreciated.

  • Vegans/Vegetaiarns how do you get your protein...?

    Below 60g a day? Seriously I would have to work hard to get it that low, typically (and I do keep track) I get around 120 Avg and I do know too much is bad and that I only needa round 50 but still. how do you do it?? I dont eat protein shakes or protein bars just normal whole foods. My lowest ever protein count was today at 67 I think it was and that skipping breakfast and not eating a huge amount of food I got around 2000 calories but for my metabolism and activeness im supposed to get around 2500-3000. Not that I really care about getting my protein that low but I just don't understand how people who say that's normally what they get (between 30-60) physically do it.

    O yeah and I am vegan.

  • x^3-8=0 solving for imaginary numbers?

    I need to solve this but not just as 2 but also for the imaginary numbers.

    A while ago a similar question was asked and this was the answer given

    x^3 - 8=0

    (x-2)*(x^2+2*x+4)=0

    x1=2

    x2= i*sqrt(3) - 1

    x3= -i*sqrt(3) - 1

    which is correct (I have the answers in the back of the book) but how to I get from here

    (x-2)*(x^2+2*x+4)=0

    to here

    i*sqrt(3) - 1 or it looks like this -1+√(3i), -1-√(3i)
