Best way to make peace and compromise with Mom? How do I get her to understand I don't appreciate being ordered about?
I'm 27yrs old and the house in question is mine. I pay my own mortgage and bills.
My parents are living with me right now and helping me with some minor repairs so I can put my house up for sale.
Well, they are treating me like a child. The "minor" repairs have become major make-over projects that I don't really think are necessary. Recently it was repainting the entire house to white. Protested but was ignored, they said if it was their money, I shouldn't worry about it. I threw up my hands and said "as long as I'm not paying for it then."
Now I work through the night. One of the projects was paint my bathroom. That means I have to stay up until they are finished. Painters didn't finish today, so we agreed I would wake up at noon and they would finish. Few minutes later mom comes storming in and orders me to wake up earlier if they arrive earlier. Now I had actually planned to do that anyway but being ordered to like a 12 yr old rubbed me the wrong way. I told her I'd get up when I got up. She says, "My money, my rules." I told her "okay" to appease her but I was irritated. Few minutes later she storms back in ordering me to help her with the front yard (something I told I would help with earlier) again, honestly it was just the way she ordered me about. I snapped at her and told her if it is such an inconvenience to help me then don't bother. We parted on that sour note. Going to give her a rose and apologize but still I'd like her to realize I'm not a little kid. Advice?

5 AnswersDogs5 years agoBoyfriend Snoring, how do I get over it?
Boyfriend comes over on my days off. When he does, he has work in the morning so he sleeps over that's when our relationship takes a passive nosedive. I already know I'm a super sensitive sleeper, EVERYTHING wakes me up.
I spoke to my mom and she says learn to cope or wear earplugs. I have been avoiding ear plugs because I literally live on a ranch. At night, predators are on the prowl and if there is danger I want to be able to hear it and wake up.Once my boyfriend is out he is dead to the world. So...can't rely on him.
Last time he stayed over he called in the next day. After laying in bed trying to block it out I finally got up at 3am and started ranch chores until he woke up at 9. He looked at me like I'd ran over his kitten.
I bought a nasal strip for him last night and it did nada. He says just kick him, but he already has high blood pressure and not sleeping is NOT going to help that plus he has to work. Strange enough, when I do nudge him, he acknowledges me and then starts snoring again. In the morning he doesn't remember waking up at all. Someone please help, I'm usually mellow but last night I just broke down into tears.
I'm too sensitive to go to bed first (I'll just wake up)
The rest of the rooms are freezing cold and he hates it when I leave.
Tried earplugs anyway last night and still hear him.
How do I get over it!
2 AnswersOther - Health6 years agoTires Going Flat Because of Rims?
Got off of work last night to discover my brand new tire (less than a month old) was flat.
Took the car back to the tire shop I got the tires from and they are telling me that the reason the tire went flat is because the rims are so old that they are rusting and scratching up the tire causing it to go flat.
I don't know much about tires and I know even less about cars, but I have been driving for quite a long time and I've never heard of this being a reason for tires going flat. Has anyone else or are they pulling my leg and just trying to get out of replacing the tire?
At the moment, they charged me five dollars to cover the damage.
7 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs7 years agoBorder collie shedding?
I have a border collie about 2 years old and I'm trying to manage his mad shedding a bit more.
Does anyone know of any shampoo or product that has helped them manage their own dogs shedding?
I realize that he is a high shedding breed so there is no way to stop the shedding completely, but there has to be a better alternative than sweeping the house literally 3-5 times a day. Along with brushing him twice a day.
Right now that's the routine with monthly trips to the groomers and a furminator brush every 3 or 4 days. I'm wondering if anyone has used a shampoo or a brush that will give better results so I can hopefully reduce the shedding in the house.
Please note, he is a SMOOTH coat border collie, so his hair is naturally pretty short. Also, he is an indoor dog and I don't intend to change that (we think he has grain allergies so we keep him inside).
He's an excellent dog otherwise but this shedding is driving me insane! If anyone has any tips I'd be grateful! :)
5 AnswersDogs9 years agoBack Child Support after all of these years?
I don't know much about this stuff but after I turned 18 was the responsibility off of my biological dad for child-support?
My mom and dad were married (having myself and my sis during that time) but divorced 8 or 10 years later. He was court ordered then to pay child support but he never did. Before my mom could pursue it however, he got in trouble with the law and fell under the radar and absolutely no one has heard from him since.
The issue has come up recently that the statute of limitations for his crime is just around the corner and he might just come back onto the scene. But of course I am 22 and my sis is 24. So, I was wondering since neither of us are minors anymore is it possible to pursue the child support which was never paid to us?
For the possibility of him not surfacing willingly is it possible to sign up for those programs to get his federal tax refund offset even though we are no longer minors?
Thanks for any insight!
P.S.
To everyone who says I am greedy and what not. Okay, so maybe I am a bit bitter and feeling a little vindictive against the creep for all of those years, and maybe this WON'T change anything or make up for those years. But money is always deeply appreciated and in the meantime it'd be nice to remind him of the family he left behind with his stupidity.
I DO know the "whole" story, mom always tried to paint him in at least a decent portrait but even his own mother says he's a real piece of work. So none of those lectures please and thank you!
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics9 years agoDewclaw is ripped. Do I take it off?
I have a male 1 yr old border collie. After coming home from work, and letting him jump on the bed I noticed his front paw was bleeding. Looking closer I saw that his dewclaw is ripped all of the way to the toe. It looks like the Quick might have already been cut through as well. He keeps licking at the area and whimpering a bit. A little bit of limping but still wants to walk around.
So far, I've confined him to the bed and dabbed at the wound with alcohol.
On my mom's suggestion, I put some Orajel on it to deaden the area. It seems to have relieved the pain and stopped the licking fortunately.
Still, from the angle it's twisted out at, I haven't been able to wrap a sock around it, and if I move it close to the paw to wrap it he's in pain.
Let's keep it real. I love my dog to death, but it's a Sunday night and I have bad history with the only emergency pet clinic in my area. (long story short, they wanted to charge me $2,000 for a sprained paw that my regular vet shrugged off and said wrap in a splint and some socks when I asked him about it later.)
Since he isn't dying or screaming in pain I'm not going to get up and drive out to be quoted horrific prices for a nail.
So...I need opinions (preferably based on experience with this) about what I should do.
1. Is it okay to pull it?
I hesitate to do this personally but if it's a simple matter of the nail needing to come off then I'd rather do it tonight and spare my dog and myself the stress? If this is the case mind telling me how your experience went and what you did?
2. Let nature takes it course?
Should I just leave it up to him and let my dog lick and pick at it until he eventually pulls it off?
3. Vet, Vet, Vet?
This is honestly my last option since I'm not a rich person. While my vet is extremely reasonable, if its a simple procedure I'd rather know now and think about saving myself the $60. So please, if you suggest the vet please give me a valid reason like explaining something he is going to do that I can't do at home?
I'd be grateful if someone with experience could suggest the best option. The bleeding has stopped by now, and as of now my dog is asleep again.
9 AnswersDogs9 years agoMale or Female Companion?
This is a serious question so please only give me serious answers based on experience.
I am coming to the conclusion that I for the sake of my Border Collie puppy I am going to need to get another dog. Whisper is 9 months old, very well trained, extremely playful, and an over all perfect companion. But there is only so much I can do as a human to entertain him.
It's not about his energy levels, he is in herding classes, goes hiking, jogging, and pretty much goes everywhere I go. It's actually just because he loves to play with other dogs so much but there isn't anyone to play with.
He is a frequent to the dog park, but the games are either too rough for his liking or he gets bullied.
I do have another dog. Cocker Spaniel male who is 13 years. Unfortunately he's never really been the playing type and his only concern is being my lap warmer.
So that brings me to looking for another companion. I have searched through various breeds and my general idea is another herding dog so they can herd together (more likely another BC). Age will depend as I am going to search for a rescue and adopt from there.
So I am stuck on gender.
The idea is a companion he can grow incredibly close to. From what I've observed in my males they love each other through me. I want the best possible chance of a bond between the dogs not just through me. Am I more likely to find him a companion with a female?
Please note: While I am searching for a companion for my male border collie, it's not that I don't want an attachment myself. Just that Border Collies seem to easily attach to their human from what I've witnessed. On days when they are by themselves in the house I want a likelihood that they'll start up a game by themselves and play together over what happens now. I leave the room and Whisper tries to get Buzz to play for a while but soon gives up and they separate to their designated sides of the room. Also, any dog will be spayed/neutered. No surprises for me! lol
I want to start with gender but I'm not getting another dog for probably a year or two. I want to research a few more breeds, Get Whisper a little older and wiser, and find a rescue I really like beforehand. There doesn't seem to be much on gender selection for the second dog however.
Thanks in advance everyone!
8 AnswersDogs1 decade agoBackyard without Search Warrant? [Legal Question]?
I'm only looking for legally supported answers.
This is not a police bashing question. I'm writing a paper on Trashing and its legality and I want to know if it legal for a police officer to enter someone's gated backyard without permission and lift the lid of their trashcan in order to find incriminating evidence.
Is there a court decision similar to this situation that says if this is a violation of a person's Fourth Amendment rights?
I'm relatively sure that it isn't. Since lifting the lid does not fall under the Plain View Doctrine. But is opening a gated backyard considered supported by the Open Field Doctrine?
Please don't answer with:
Yes, because its the police and they can do what they want OR
They make it legal. Or something else like that.
I'm only looking for something that is legally supported.
Thank you!!
P.S. a reference would be appreciated!
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoStop dogs from pooping on cement path?
Hello everyone!
So, I have two Cocker Spaniels. A 10yr male, and a 3yr female. Because they live indoor/outdoor my family pitched together and completely remodeled the side of the house for them. It has a large dog house that looks like a miniature of our house. A wood chipped area to relieve themselves, a cemented pathway so that we can walk comfortably, and a grassy area on the other side for them to play.
Overall, they do wonderfully in this area. They don't rip things apart, dig, or anything. The only problem is that they don't poop in the wood chipped area or the grass. ONLY on the cement path.
Between my mother and I we have tried everything we can think of to get them to stop.
We tried to move their feces over to the wood chips and bleached the path. We've kept them in the house until they had to go and then moved them to the proper area and praised them when they went. We've even tried putting down pepper and other unpleasant scents to make them stop but while they may stop for a second they go right back to the cement path every time we turn our backs.
Strangest thing is that since they were both puppies they've NEVER been allowed to poop on any sort of cement. On walks they are trained to wait until we get to a grassy area in the park. So why they have this obsession with the cement now we don't know!
Has anyone had the same problem and found a solution? Or have any ideas that we haven't tried?
Everyone is getting pretty frustrated with this problem by now. -_- especially me who has to clean it up.
Serious answers only please!
Thanks for your suggestions!!
2 AnswersDogs1 decade agoGoing back to MEP's for a check up? Trick or Not?
Okay so I am in the Air Force DEP program and I can't figure out something I was just told.
Try to make a long story short, fall of last year I signed up knowing I wanted to go in %100. I knew there was a wait though so when school was finished I just wanted to ship out ASAP. Everything at this point was smooth with my recruiter. I told him my situation, he said it was no problem and I told him my only concern was that I needed to get back to my graduation ceremony. At the time he also said no problem.
Well, when he said that I guess the promise was made too early. But long story short, my lovable prof. an army veteran told me to get the promise on paper, but when I got back from school I got assigned a new recruiter. I told her what I discussed with my previous recruiter and how I needed papers and she said "I can't do that. Talk to the T.I's when you get there.". Well during this time my ship date was Feb. 16. I was eager to go, but my graduation is important to me, and I've heard enough about T.I.'s to know they don't give a flying rat about paperless promises.
So I said I couldn't leave without knowing I could go to my graduation. Tried to talk to my recruiter, finally she moved me to her Station Commander. After two days of sticking to our guns we finally came to the agreement that I would move my ship date until after graduation and for now just continue as I have been on the DEP program.
So, during this time I was so stressed out my weight dropped under what was allowed. My recruiter told me to gain back the weight and in a week I got it back up.
She just called me today to say that she's worried about my health so she scheduled me an appointment to MEP's for a check-up. I need to go in tomorrow to get a van voucher and the date and time.
I've never heard of this before and neither has anyone else I know. I just came back from MEP's two weeks ago to take a test. So I need to know before I leave does anyone know if this is normal? I'm a little concerned because it's pretty close to my original ship date Feb 16. But I don't want to jump to conclusions especially if she really is worried and just took the time to have me checked out.
Please, serious answers only.
Thank you very much!
3 AnswersMilitary1 decade agoCleaning the OS (C:) ?
I've been noticing that my operating system's memory is running pretty low now. It hasn't gotten to the point that's its interrupted anything but I want to catch it before it does.
I erased all of my old programs that took up a lot of my memory, erased documents, organized, etc. and then I realized that all together that stuff only took up 1.89 GB. But I have 62.2 GB on my computer! Available is 3.09 GB.
So I figure there must be something I haven't cleaned out on my laptop. Does anyone know what it is?
I also clean out my temp files, and delete cookies once a week online.
If someone could tell me what I need to do I would really appreciate it! The only thing I find online is clearing the OS and buying new memory.
I don't know much about clearing the OS system. And I don't see buying new memory as an option because I'm sure there is something I can do to free up some space without resorting to that.
Thanks for reading and any advice!!

5 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoJapanese Translator in the Air Force?
I have been trying to get answers to this for awhile but so far I have not had any luck. I told my recruiter that I wanted a translating position and he said to take the DLAB. Until then my best bet is to get into an Intel position. so I chose Imagery Analysis.
I understand that I need to pass the DLAB with a score of 100, but then what? I have been unable to find a listing accurate to what I would like to do.
I do not want to interpret for people I would like to translate documents from Japanese to English or English to Japanese. If I am unable to find this language then I would be willing to pick another language. I have no interest however in learning any middle eastern language.
So my question is what is the job listing for this under the Air Force? I have found it for the Army and Marines, but I do not want to join these branches.
Also, I heard a rumor that they pick the language for you. My college prof. (Army Veteran) said that he was able to choose his language though. So is this true or not?
Thank you very much!
3 AnswersMilitary1 decade agoFleas, Allergies, and the Indoor Cat?
Somehow someway even with brushing him everyday and never letting him outside my year old orange tabby got fleas.
I was gone for awhile and my neighbors watched him and when I got back he was completely covered. Being that he is my first cat and this is my first flea problem I'm completely lost.
Since he is strictly indoor do I need to treat my yard?
Also, what are the best approaches to getting rid of them completely both in the house and on the cat?
Lastly, ever since I got back near my cat I've been sneezing and wheezing. I've never had an allergy problem with him before but this is to the point that my eyes are swollen and I can barley breathe. Is it really possible to be gone for such a short period and develop a serious allergy to your pet?
Please I need serious help here I don't know how much more of this I can take. I hate to keep my baby away from me, but I have to in order to breathe! And if I get bit by another flea I'm gonna go insane!
4 AnswersCats1 decade agoMy Best Friend is Interested in my Cousin...Should I get a say?
So recently my best friend broke up with her boyfriend and has been jumping guy to guy since. Two days ago she decided to stop and she gets interested in a childhood friend of hers, I made no comment, but I get a call today saying that she has been talking to my cousin and they are going to have lunch tomorrow. (He's not her childhood friend)
She says she's not interested in dating him. Seeing that her only connection to him is through me I don't see any other reason for them to go out to eat together besides interest.
I told her I don't like it that they're getting so close. A friend watching from the sidelines says he's fair game.
She asks if I think she isn't good enough for him. I told her no, that's not it, and I really don't think that's the case but...still I don't want my best friend dating my family members.
So is it right that my best friend is turning her sights on my family? Am I justified in stepping in? Or am I just being overprotective of him?
7 AnswersFriends1 decade agoMy Cat has Fleas that won't go away!?
I don't know how but my cat got fleas.
He's an indoor cat, only been outside twice and neither was for very long (( two minutes)).
I brush him all of the time, and give him a bath once a week.
Then suddenly I notice a little black dot shoot across his fur when he is cuddled up against me, and upon further inspection see that he has fleas!
The next day I went out bought a flea collar, flea drops and flea shampoo that was supposed to kill them on contact.
I guess they were all a waste of money because here I am three days later and my poor Kyo is scratching everything. Before they were just on his head, now they're even at the base of his tail!
How do I get rid of fleas for good? I only have one major store in my area and I tried the top brands. I hate seeing my poor baby scratching and looking so miserable.
I heard about adding vinegar in their water, does that work? Please anyone who had a flea infestation problem, what did you do that got rid of them for good? And how long did it take before they were completely gone?
Thanks!
8 AnswersCats1 decade agoA Long Distance Training Tool For Cats?
Kyo, my growing kitten, has been slowly itching every nerve in my body with his bad habits for over a month now
It's not that he's bad, he's just so stubborn! I tell him not to do something and remove him from the spot he'll just run back over there as if I don't even exist! ((This is especially bad when it comes to electric cords that I can't hide)).
I've tried the water gun. And it works up to a point. On certain things it's stopped him completely on others he'll just do what he wasn't supposed to do and take off running. (( i.e. scratching furniture))
I'm not too concerned about the furniture or cords being damaged since he's young and I keep his nails trimmed down anyway but still I don't want to give him the idea it's okay. I want him to use the scratching post I've given him and over a dozen toys in the house NOT using my curtains as swinging vines and trashcans as his personal vacation spot.
So I ask this question, is there a long distance thing I can use on him. Something that works almost like an electric dog collar? Not something to shock him but something in which I can tell him No and push a button instead of chasing him around the house with a water bottle. There are few doors in the house so he has free roam, most of the time I hear what he is doing before I can see him which makes discipline hard.
So is there an invention out there? I'm NOT kidding around on this. Nothing something that will seriously shock him but like a sound collar or something that I can use to suppliment the water guns.
Thank You!
3 AnswersCats1 decade agoHyper Kitten Pushes the limits?
Someone please help me!
This is my first feline and I'm at a complete loss!
Kyo is my blonde and orange calico. I just got him about a week ago. He's a really sweet kitten about eight weeks old now. He doesn't bite hard and doesn't use his claws on me, and he loves cuddling beside me and sleeping.
I would say that's more like the Dr. Jekyll in him.
Then At around I'd say 3' o clock in the evening and 2 'o clock in the morning Mr. Hyde shows his face.
My sweet gentle Kyo becomes a demon, twitching and bustling with energy he starts biting cords running around the house like he's lost his mind, meowing for no reason and scratching up furniture.
Now I understand that he's just a baby and this is just a phase, but when he grows out of this will he still think biting cords and scratching the life out of furniture is okay? I've tried to teach him now that he isn't allowed to do that, but even though he takes off running at the firm "no" it's like a three year old with no attention span; two seconds later he's back at it.
It's starting to feel pointless yelling and clapping my hands to get him to stop doing something that minutes later he'll start up again. And truth be told it doesn't bother me that much right now. There's only so much that baby claws and baby teeth will do.
So for those Cat experts out there. Should I keep it up or will he just grow out of it anyway?
Thanx Alot!
P.S. He does have a cat scratcher that he uses, and a piece of carpet. He uses them and still uses his claws on everything else.
