I have two old style Mogul floor lamps. Main bulb in each is a 3-way, E-39 Mogul bulb. These take a lot of electricity. I need to replace these main bulbs because they are both out. I am looking for a compact fluorescent 3-way bulb to replace the burned out incandescent. Does such a thing exist? I have found Mogul compact fluorescents, but they are only 1-way. Could this be used in the 3-way E-39 Mogul socket without damage? The bulbs I found were about $40, so you see I don't want to put one in and have it ruined.

I am very fond of both lamps although they are not a matched pair, one from the 1920’s that was my parents and one from the 1940’s which was the property of the father of my childhood friend. I purchased it from the estate when he passed. So you see, I love them both, but they suck so much electricity. I am looking for ways to make them work more efficiently without having them rewired (again!).
