How to fix SSL errors?
I keep getting SSL errors when using the internet. The one that comes up most often is for Google. I've tried a few things to fix this. I've tried using Complete Internet Repair Tool, and it worked at first, but now it doesn't seem to fix the problem. Aside from that, it was getting frustrating having to use this every other day. I've tried clearing the history completely. I've tried running scans (which turn up nothing). Wondering if anyone knows some solutions or how to fix this ongoing issue. Sometimes I can get google to come up, like if I search it in bing and then use it. But this is overly frustrating and there are other sites that turn up errors on occasion. I am running XP Prof and my browser of choice is Chrome
2 AnswersOther - Internet8 years agoSome web pages load, others do not?
I've been having internet issues the last couple of days. Some internet pages will load others will not. I've a tried a few things to try and get it to work. Some things helped a little, others made it worse. Where it stands, I run XP, and the only browser I have loaded right now is IE 7. I've used Complete Internet Repair Tool to Repair Winsock and repair SSL/HTTPS/Cryptography and seem to have made a little headway. However, simple pages like Google will not load. I tried to go to Google and it said "No site configured at this address" even though the tab and the address bar have the google "G" logo like the webpage loaded successfully. Not sure what all I can do to fix the issues. I've run Malwarebytes and it didn't detect anything on my computer.
1 AnswerOther - Internet8 years agoHelp with building a credit history?
I am working on establishing a credit history. As of now, according to freecreditscore and CreditKarma, I have a "thin file" and a score cannot be provided for me. I've never owned a credit card, and only applied for one, an Amazon card about 2 weeks ago. And today I got a letter from Chase stating the card was denied due to a thin file.
I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for cards to start off with so I can work on building a credit history. I am interested in cards with no annual fee and that my "thin file" won't be turned down.
2 AnswersCredit8 years agoIs there a way to get the background buzz to go away?
We recently got a new blu ray player. It came with an HDMI cable, but our tv didn't have any HDMI ports. My dad had an HDMI to DVI cable so we used that for the picture. For sound, we have a digital audio coaxial cable connect to a Digital to Analog converter with RCA running from the converter to the tv. We have sound, but in the background there is this annoying staticy buzz. Is there a way to get the buzz to go away, or is it just going to always be there? The TV is a Hitachi (not exactly sure on the model, but it is a projection screen and 55"), blu ray is a Toshiba and I think the model is BDK21. The digital coaxial cable is by Alphaline, the converter by Menotek, and the RCA by Phillips (I think)
2 AnswersHome Theater8 years agoHelp with sound issue please?
We have a refurbished Toshiba BluRay player, I believe it is the BDK21, and an older Hitachi projection screen TV, I believe it is the 57s700. The player came with an HDMI cable, but our TV doesn't have HDMI ports. My dad had an HDMI to DVI cable which we used to hook the player and TV up, which took care of the picture. However, that doesn't solve the audio problem. The player has an orange "digital coaxial" port. I did some research and came to the conclusion that this is a port for audio. The TV has RCA ports, so I bought a Y RCA splitter and RCA cable. Upon hooking up the player and TV, all I get is a sort of static buzz coming through, and possibly the movie's sound but almost inaudible. I checked the cables, and they were all hooked up fine, and in the right places. Did I get the wrong cables? What do I need to get the sound through?
3 AnswersHome Theater9 years agoAre these items compatible?
We have a Magnavox MBP5130 Blu Ray player. We just got a Tenda W311MI wireless adapter to try and get the wifi going. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be picking up our internet. Are these two devices compatible with each other? I tried looking on the internet, and from what I gather, it should work on blu ray players.

2 AnswersCameras9 years agoInput/thoughts on Purina One Beyond Dry Cat Food?
Just bought some for my Kitty the other day. Have yet to open them and feed her. Out of what I had available when I was buying food, this product seemed to have the best ingredients compared to all the other dry foods available. I've read some mixed reviews online, and am curious as to what others think. She gets mostly wet food. I alternate her days of getting dry food as well.
Here is one flavor's ingredients, taken from their site:

4 AnswersCats9 years agoNeed an advice about shortening based frosting?
My dad got some ingredients for me to make shortening based frosting. It's my grandpa's recipe. The only problem is, rather than getting shortening like Crisco, he got blended shortening that contains lard (it's listed as the first ingredient) because that was the only kind available. My grandpa totes on how Crisco is the best and I'm pretty sure it is 100% vegetable based. Should I get a different kind of shortening that contains no lard? I feel like I should, but am not sure.
2 AnswersCooking & Recipes9 years agoAdvice about my cat please?
My cat has become an indoor outdoor cat (she choose to go outside, she has been fixed and we keep a collar with a tag on her). She's been fine and has been going in and out since spring. Anyway, she recently got a strange injury. Over the weekend we were dog sitting a friend's dog and needless to say, the two animals didn't like each other. Anyway, Sunday while petting Kitty, I noticed an odd lump on her left hindquarters. It was a little squishy in some spots, but it didn't seem to bother her at all or hinder her movement. I don't know what it was, just that it was in the same area as a healed minor cut she received earlier in the week (source unknown of that). Well the next day, Monday, I was petting her. I noticed some matted fur in the area of the lump. However the lump was gone and a new wound was there. At first it looked like she had maybe scratched off a scab. I used a cotton swab and applied some mild antibiotic and left it at that. After coming home from work, I was cleaning it a little and noticed that it is instead some kind of puncture. I first thought maybe the dog and her got into it before she ran for safety and she got a mild dog bite... However now I am wondering if maybe it isn't a BB wound. I've just cleaned it today and applied a small amount of antibiotic. It is a little tender to her still.
Any advice to care for this? I would love to take her to the vet, but the truth is we don't have the money at the moment. I just started a new job and won't get paid for another two weeks. And my husband's check is tied up in bills and car repairs. What is recommended for home care? What signs should I watch for in the event we HAVE to get her to a vet? So far she is acting normal, other than licking the wound area more than she normally would.
3 AnswersCats9 years agoQuestion about denture recovery?
Okay my friend is on day 5 of denture recovery. She had 22 extractions and she just noticed a section of her gums being sort of flabby and loose in the back near some sutures. She said it doesn't hurt but none of her gums have been like this since the extractions. I looked at it and it is definitely flacid and is a sort of straw colored section. When she puts her dentures in, the gum itself sort of tucks in next to her cheek. We are wondering if this cause for alarm or if there is something we should do. Currently awaiting a call from an after hours on call dentist. But she is definitely worried and curious why it is like this and what it means while we wait. Any ideas?
2 AnswersDental9 years agoWhat does indictment mean (more details inside) ?
Okay so I've been trying to figure out some stuff online but it's a bit confusing.
Here is some insight into what is going on. A relative of mine is a midwife in Oregon. Apparently one of the infants she birthed ended up passing away. I guess preliminary investigations/examinations say she did everything she could and that the infant's death was out of her hands. However yesterday (I believe) she was indicted for Murder 1 and Manslaughter. What does indictment mean and what will happen now?
I am sorry I do not have more info to share, but I really don't know a whole lot about the matter in the first place. All the information I have has been passed on to me through my father which he has heard from the relatives. Frankly I'm worried about what will happen to her because I KNOW she would never purposely cause the death of any of her infants, but realize these are very serious charges. Can you shed some light on this stuff?

3 AnswersOther - Visual Arts9 years agoCan they get the ring back from her legally?
Okay so my brother-in-law married of friend of mine a few years ago. She was a foreign exchange student from Norway and they got married here in Indiana and did all the proper legal stuff with here and Norway to have a recognized marriage. After about 1 1/2 years or so, things when south and they either already have gotten a divorce, or it is being finalized. The wedding set was the set belonging to my mother's-in-law mother.
When she was given the set by my mother-in-law, my friend promised to give the set back if things were ever to not work out. Well I guess recently the two of them talked and it sounds as though my friend wants to sell the rings. I'm assuming it is because my brother-in-law owes her money or something (I dunno the specifics). I was wondering if my in-laws have any legal standing to pursue the ring from her.
She is a Norwegian citizen, but currently studying abroad in Sydney, Australia. I know, that makes it evermore complicated...

4 AnswersUnited States9 years agoNeed help with error message?
I am attempting to fix some issues on our computer. After working on removing some nasty viruses and bugs I did a restart. Upon restarting the computer seems to have went through using a program I thought I had removed because it wasn't following the protocols on the website instructions, the program was Combofix. Well after it sat for a while and did it's thing the computer loaded up like normal, however the PS/2 keyboard now no longer works on the login screen. Mouse, which is USB wireless is completely fine. When I was scanning and cleaning the computer with Emsisoft Anti-Malware, one program couldn't be removed. I searched the address myself and manually removed it from the computer. It was Windows/System32/drivers/i8042prt.sys. I checked this laptop and it has it as well, and am assuming it was the driver that allowed the keyboard port to be used. Any who, in attempts to get the keyboard working again, I did the F8 start up menu and tried to do a System Restore from the System Recovery Options menu. The SR does not work and gives me this error code "0x80070570" saying the file directory is corrupt and unreadable. Is there a way to fix this? Remember, I cannot access things like the start menu because I cannot use the keyboard at Login and all users have passwords. The computer is a Compaq running Vista. If you need more info, I can try to give you as much as possible.
2 AnswersOther - Computers9 years agoCan anyone help me through this?
Okay so in my internet searching to remove the redirect virus I was lead to Combofix. Should have listened to better judgement and found a different workable program, but I decided to attempt to give it a try. Well after saving it to my computer and it not working like the instructions said, I decided to just delete it. After finding a new program from Emsisoft which did clean out numerous issues, I did a restart. Well apparently the Combofix was not deleted and it went into what my dad called DOS mode and ran. After that completed it took me to the normal windows log in screen. The mouse works fine, however the keyboard is unresponsive when I try to type. I tried unplugging and replugging it in, nothing happened. I tried a restart, again still no response from the keyboard. We are running Vista on a Compaq. Keyboard came with the computer and plugs into the back (not USB). Mouse is a USB wireless mouse. I admit I should not have messed with Combofix and am now attempting to rectify the situation.
I pushed F8 and from that menu, selected the option to Repair Windows. I was taken to a blue screen and a window popped up asking me to select a language and then enter a username and login password. The keyboard worked for this. I tried a system restore and was given the following error message:
"System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed.
Details:
System Restore failed due to an unspecified error.
The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable. (0x80070570)
You might want to try System Restore again and choose a different restore point. For more information, see System Restore: frequently asked questions."
I attempted another system restore with the same result.
1 AnswerOther - Computers9 years agoWhat are the effects of smoking catnip?
I know that in the past catnip has been used for medical purposes, but usually in teas and tinctures... But I recently came across an article that said it was also sometimes smoked. What would it do? The articles I've read about the medical uses of catnip say that in humans it was often used as a sedative and is known to cause numbness as well. Just curious, especially since a lot of people I know always wonder what would happen if you smoked catnip...
5 AnswersAlternative Medicine9 years agoCan someone explain how these types of taxes work?
Okay I have been considering becoming a Pure Romance consultant, but I want to fully understand a lot of things before I go jumping into it. And one of the things I am really wanting more information on is the way taxes work for this sort of job.
Basically it would be like filing self-employed or professional consultant. I found a few articles online, but still not entirely sure I understand how it works. Is there anyone who can help me grasp how the taxes work? My major worry is that come tax time, I would end up making my husband and I owe money and I don't want to get into this if that would be the case.
