Just bought a car, got a parking ticket, putting the title in my name tomorrow, can I dodge this?
Last night I was at a restaurant with friends, and this restaurant had a parking lot. Turns out that the parking lot did not belong to the restaurant, but to a private company who put a $83 parking ticket on my windshield at 11:30pm. I asked the restaurant staff and they confirmed that they don't own the parking lot right outside their front door. Go figure.
So the thing is, I've got out-of-state plates on my vehicle right now since I only bought it a week ago, but I was going to get the title transferred into my name and plates for my state tomorrow at the DMV (tomorrow is payday), but I can't afford to do that if I have to cough up $83 for this parking ticket, which will then result in me paying the DMV more money for a late transfer fee because I'll have to wait until my next paycheck to get that taken care of.
The ticket doesn't have my VIN number on it. Just my make/model and plates that aren't even mine. If I go to the DMV tomorrow with my paycheck and get the car in my name and plates for my state, will this disappear? Or will the previous owner start getting unpaid ticket notices? I don't want to bring him into this, he was such a nice guy.
I know I'm being shady and unscrupulous here, normally I'd just be an adult and pay it but the reason I'm posting this is because a) why is the ticket $83?! that's nuts! b) it was nearly midnight, c) what kind of restaurant doesn't own the parking lot in front of their business, and d) I can't afford this plus DMV late fees.
5 AnswersInsurance & Registration6 years agoHome Depot employees: how often can you transfer to a different store?
Hi, I've worked for Home Depot for 1 1/2 years but the store I work for is 30 miles from my home. I found out there is an opening in my department at a store that is closer to me and I'd like to transfer to that store. My manager is okay with it. The only problem is that I will be moving from Oregon to Texas in 4 months to help take care of an ailing elderly relative, and in September when I move, I'll want to transfer to a Home Depot in that area.
I've been told by one supervisor that I can only transfer once every three months, but another supervisor told me I have to wait six months between transfers. I don't know where to look to find this information on my own. Can anyone tell me how long I have to wait before I can transfer again? Thanks in advance.
1 AnswerCorporations7 years agoI was in a minor accident, did I do the right thing by not involving the insurance/police?
I just got a new (to me, it's actually used) car one month ago. Earlier today, I gave my roommate a ride to the bank. While in the parking lot, I was stopped, waiting for a minivan to back out so I could have the parking spot. While I was waiting, a late 90s Toyota Corolla backed into the side of my car. I got out and the man, who didn't speak very good English, was begging with me to let it go without calling the police or the insurance company. He told me he had just been laid off and didn't have any money. I took down his information and gave him my information, just to be safe if things went south, but he gave me the phone number for his son-in-law who he promised would fix the dent in my car. It's not a huge one (about 8" in diameter), but it's in such a spot that my passenger door will no longer open all the way.
Later I spoke to my cousin who said I should have definitely called the police. But if this man is truly down on his luck and out of money, that might be an awful thing to do. On the other hand, he could have been lying to try to save his own skin.
I called his son-in-law, left a message (about 3 hours ago), and haven't heard back yet. I told the man I would give him 1 or 2 days. Have I done the right thing or am I letting myself get tricked?
3 AnswersInsurance & Registration7 years agoAm I eligible for federal employment?
Hi, I'm trying to determine if I'm eligible for federal employment, specifically working on a US military base either stateside or overseas. The job requires completion of a declaration of federal employment form OF-306.
I believe that everything checks out, I have no past felonies or misdemeanors (not even a traffic ticket), what little credit I have is good and I don't owe any money to anyone.
What I believe might nail me is that I enlisted in the US Air Force in 2011. I was pre-screened by MEPS in Portland, Oregon in the fall of 2010 and they determined that my tachycardia (heart condition) which I was born with would not interfere with my service. It's all on my paperwork, I didn't try to hide anything. However, two weeks into basic training, during a medical review, one of the doctors on base saw that I had tachycardia and immediately recommended me for early discharge. I was given a "general discharge under medical conditions" on April 25, 2011 of which I had no control, and with which I was very upset. I still have my DD-214 from when I was discharged.
Is that going to stop me from my planned career?
2 AnswersGovernment & Non-Profit7 years agoHow would you address this situation on a lease change.?
Tenant A and Tenant B agree to rent an apartment together in September 2012. They pay the deposit and the first and last months's rent. The lease runs through June 2013. In March 2013, Tenant B wishes to return home to her family and looks for a replacement roommate for Tenant A. Tenant B's name is removed from the lease and Tenant C's name is added for the remaining three months. Since the rent was already prepaid for the month of June 2013, Tenants A and C do not pay rent to the landlord for that month. Does Tenant C owe Tenant B her half of June's rent that she prepaid since she did not live there?
3 AnswersRenting & Real Estate8 years agoWill these PS2 games run on a backwards compatible 80GB PS3?
I want to get a backwards compatible 80GB PS3 pretty soon but I'm curious if some of my PS2 games will run on it. Wikipedia has a pretty decent list but a lot of my games are not on it. Would anyone with a backwards compatible 80GB PS3 who has these games be willing to try them and see if they work and let me know? Or if anyone knows of a better list than the one on Wikipedia, please link me to that?
Here's my list of games that weren't on Wikipedia's list:

Rayman Arena
Ty the Tasmanian Tiger
Raiden III
Dragon Rage
Kya: Dark Lineage
Phantom Brave

4 AnswersPlayStation8 years agoI earned less than $2800 in 2012. Do I need to file this year?
My total earnings for 2012 add up to $2,799.34, which was about the same as what I made in 2011. I filed last year and my federal and state refund added up to about $42.
I'm 21 years old, I live in Oregon, and for the majority of 2012 I was supported by my grandparents while I went to college. I had a part time job at a market research firm which basically paid for the few things that my grandparents did not take care of (such as my cell phone bill), which is why I made such a small amount of money.
Do I need to file a tax return for this year? I've been told that if you make very little money, the IRS doesn't really care whether or not you file. I was told the threshold is about $7000 and I made less than half of that.
5 AnswersUnited States8 years agoCan I get a decent job with an Associates Degree in Computer Science?
So here's my situation. I'm halfway through the 2-year comp sci program at my community college, and it's already pretty taxing on me (I'm not much of a "school" person). I don't think I'll survive the transition to a four year degree, not to mention the fact that I can't afford it.
Right now I work in retail and I actually don't mind the job, sometimes it's pretty fun, but it's not something I see myself doing at age 40. Someday I'd like to make more than $10/hr but I don't need to be a millionaire. A lot of promises I hear about the 4-year computer science program is that I can make $60-70k a year starting out, and even more later on. I grew up dirt poor (and I still am) and I know how to live frugally, so I think I could be very comfortable making $35k a year. I really don't want anything more than $50k a year. Seriously. Money isn't a central element of my happiness plan. :)
What I'm thinking is that since I'm already half done, I'll tough it out and finish my 2 year comp sci degree, but then that's all the schooling I can tolerate. But a lot of job postings I see for the IT field want bachelor's degrees.
Bottom line: I want to leave retail someday and get a job in the computer technology field, but I don't care if I'm not making very much money (something to the tune of $16-18/hr sounds good to me, I really don't need anything more), and then maybe over time I can move up from there because job experience is more important than a degree. I don't need to be a computer master living in Silicon Valley townhouse and driving a brand new BMW. What jobs can I get that make $16-18/hr in the computer technology field with a 2-year degree?
Technology8 years agoIs there something I could mix in my Mountain Dew to make it taste like Pitch Black?
I seriously miss the taste of Mountain Dew: Pitch Black. Until PepsiCo decides to bring it back (if they ever do), is there something I could mix into a can of regular Mountain Dew to make it taste like Pitch Black? Or at least close to it? What should I use, and how much of it for a 12oz can?
It doesn't have to look like Pitch Black, it just has to taste like it. ;)
Thanks!
2 AnswersNon-Alcoholic Drinks8 years agoWhat is the shelf life of rum?
My mother and I were clearing out a house and we found a bottle of Captain Morgan rum in a high cupboard. Somebody wrote "3-10-2001" on the label, which I'd guess is the date they bought it. The bottle is about half empty. I don't know much about alcohol, but I wonder if it's any good?
3 AnswersBeer, Wine & Spirits8 years agoHow do you deal with mortgage payments during bankruptcy?
My mother told me today that one of her friends recently had to file for bankruptcy and she is living in a barn loft because she still has to pay the mortgage payments on her home (even though she no longer owns in and is not allowed on the property) which means she can not find a suitable place to rent.
I'm pretty sure there is some way out from under the payments toward that mortgage so that she can get back on her feet somehow. Apparently her home is for sale on the market, and she no longer owns it. In what ways can she be relieved of those mortgage payments so that she and her husband can try to get back on their feet again?
We live in Oregon, and no I don't know if she filed for Chapter 7 or Chapter 13, sorry.
If there are any other details you need please ask and I will add details.
3 AnswersOther - Business & Finance8 years agoWhy aren't rock music videos on TV anymore?
MTV used to be a rock haven back when I was growing up, but now they don't really play *any* kind of music anymore, just awful reality shows for mindless 16-year-olds. VH1 plays a good rock song every once in a great while, but that's it. Fuse used to be great up until about 3 years ago, now they gave in to the urban crap. And then of course IMF died a few years ago.
Urban/pop fans have VH1, BET, and Fuse. Country fans have CMT and GAC. If you like classic rock, there's VH1 Classic, but sometimes I want to hear the newer stuff, you know, from the year 2000 and onward! I know I've got the internet, but I miss watching rock music on TV. :(
Or even if it's NOT rock... I just want to be able to watch music videos that aren't from the likes of Li'l Wayne and Tim McGraw...
2 AnswersRock and Pop9 years agoXBox 360 for $45, has a broken disc drive. Worth it?
I've been thinking about getting an Xbox 360 for a while now but I don't have the money for a new one, or even a reasonably priced used one. My friend has one he will sell me for $45 but it has a broken disc drive. It's the older model (circa 2007), it has a 250gb hard drive, and it is *not* red-ringed.
What would it cost me to replace the disc drive? Can I pay someone to do it for me? I'm not good at parts and repair.
And adding up the cost of the unit plus the repair costs, is it still a reasonably good deal? The most I can afford right now is about $120.
3 AnswersXbox9 years agoSega Nomad w/ low serial, what's it worth?
Hi, I found a Sega Nomad today for $5. I have no idea if it works or not and I have no way to test it since it doesn't have the AC adapter and the battery pack is missing. Cosmetically I would rate the unit 5/10.
Before I bought it, I checked it out and noticed that the serial number has a lot of zeros in it. The serial number is 060007775. After a bit of searching online I believe (not 100% sure) that the first two digits (06) were some sort of prefix printed on all systems. That would make sense because I know that's how it was done with the Sega Game Gear. If that's true, this one is #07775 made for the US market (out of a total 1 million sold). That's a pretty low number if you ask me and it might add some value.
I could also test it if I can find a generic AC adapter but I don't know the volts/amps rating for it, so if you know that too, that would be great.
So, with all that having been said, what's my unit worth?
Thanks!

I want to get some Powerbass or Kicker speakers to replace the stock rear speakers in my '94 Ford Escort wagon. I see so many 6x8s but I can't find very many 5x7s. Is there a way I can put 6x8s in place of my old 5x7s and what do I need to know to do it?

1 AnswerHomework Help9 years agoExplain to me the difference between a centralized and decentralized currency system?
I'm trying to write a speech for my Communications class on the advantages and disadvantages of electronic money.
I've been able to find a solid amount of information on centralized currency systems, but the information I've gathered from my research on decentralized systems seems sketchy and incomplete.
Could someone who is an expert on the matter please explain to me in detail the differences and similarities between the two systems?
Thanks in advance.
1 AnswerEconomics9 years agoHow do people ship so cheaply on eBay?
I'm trying to sell some old textbooks on eBay. On my listing, the most I can put down for shipping is $4.00 but USPS is telling me that it will cost $10.95 to ship these with the flat rate boxes.
Is there a way I can trim down my shipping costs without inflating the cost of my item?
The book weighs 2 or 3 pounds and is about 9.5" x 8" x 0.75"
4 AnswersOther - Business & Finance9 years agoWhy does my car stereo quit working after about 10 minutes?
I just bought a Pioneer DEH-2200UB car stereo but it doesn't stay on. After about ten minutes of driving the sound gets quieter and then goes silent. The display on the stereo says my CD is still playing, but there's no sound. Turning it off and then back on does nothing, but if I turn it off, wait about 3 or 4 minutes, and then turn it back on, it will work for another 10 minutes.
I just bought this unit 3 days ago to replace a cheap $30 stereo that came with this used car I bought. The cheap stereo sounded really bad, but it never had this problem that my new Pioneer has. At one point I drove over 120 miles straight and the cheap stereo kept working. With my Pioneer, I can hardly get out of the city limits before it quits on me.
What could possibly be the issue and how should I fix it?
2 AnswersCar Audio10 years agoWhat should I know about buying a refurbished laptop?
I found a laptop on Tiger Direct that I'd like to get for my sister. It's got some killer hardware for the price. It's an Acer with 6GB memory, 640GB hard drive, and an Intel Core i5, for $500. I was just about to get it on the spot until I saw that it was refurbished.
It comes with a 3 month warranty, and I can purchase another year for $100, but I don't have the money. So really all I want to know is whether or not this is worth it and is there anything I should know before I buy this?
