Must you sell your existing home by a deadline to qualify for 6500 home buyer credit?
We certainly qualify if we close on a new home before July 1, 2010. But, must we also have closed on the sale of our existing property (have owned as primary residence since 2001)? Put another way, if we close on a new home on June 15, 2010, can we get the tax credit if our existing home is still for sale on the market?
4 AnswersRenting & Real Estate1 decade agoWill airport staff allow me to fly with pink eye?
I well know how RUDE it is to even entertain the option. It's an international flight to Europe and my boss has made it quite clear that I'm not to miss this trip for all the important meetings. It's nuts... I'm hoping to be blocked at the airport, but that's probably wishful thinking.
3 AnswersAir Travel1 decade agoSaving resultant files from a Microsoft Indexing Services query?
I need to search a large file server with thousands of files for about 100 unique terms. I have the server indexed using the built-in Indexing services and am able to query it successfully (I'm using the AimAtFile tool). My problem is that I need to easily copy all found files to a directory to forward on to another party. The tool allows this, but there is no way to handle duplicates (those files with the same name but different contents and/or last update date). The ideal solution would allow me to copy all files from the result set to a directory and when duplictates are found, it would append to the file name to keep it unique. Sending all files including duplicates is important. Does anyone know of a method or tool to facilitate this?
2 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoTheme idea for a 3 minute presentation?
I need to make a 3 minute presentation on a theme "of my choice" in a management training class. Any good ideas? The presentation will be filmed and critiqued by my classmates and I'd like to make it entertaining / funny to keep the pressure off of me. This is just a freestyle presentation with no PowerPoint slides, projector, etc.
3 AnswersTheater & Acting1 decade agoHow long to build a standard 6' wood privacy fence (150 linear feet)?
I've heard this is very hard work (at least digging the holes -- even with an auger). I don't have much free time. I'm a hard worker with an average build, lilly white skin, a few callouses on my hands, and some muscle and I have about 8 hours per week to dedicate to the task. Will I have my privacy by the end of the year (6 months or so)?
15 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)1 decade agoAre steel lintels above garage doors load bearing?
There are gaps between my lintel and the brick veneer above, and I fail to see how the brick is suspended. I worry that one day I'll be walking into my garage, and I'll hear a rumbling sound, and then I'll have to run away like a baby deer from the crashing bricks.
Someone told me that they have no true function after serving their purpose as a platform at brick-lay time.
2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoHow to prevent water infiltration around steel lintel above garage?
I noted a rotting 2x8 above our 2car garage door the other day, and it alerted me to a gap between the brick veneer above, the lintel itself, and the 2x8 below. The lintel is rusty - I think just on the outside, but can't tell until I remove the rotting wood.
I will replace the 2x8 with good pressure treated lumber, but am left wondering how best to address those gaps. And should those gaps be there? I don't see how the lintel is doing its job when it doesn't even touch the brick above.
1 AnswerMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoA prankster broke an egg on the hood of my brand new Honda Civic. How to remove?
It's been at least a couple days, and it seems from some research that our paint job may be screwed. Real nice prank. I mixed vinegar and water and applied a soaked towel to the area for 20 minutes, but no matter how hard I scrub, a film remains. Any ideas?
6 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoMy toddler is 22 Months old and isn't talking yet. How abnormal?
I know it's not "normal", but he seems very bright otherwise. He responds to many various questions / commands and is quite mechanically inclined. If we say let's change your diaper, he runs to his changing table. Where are your shoes and he runs to get them. I can walk in the room after work and get a "dada" as he runs to me, but honestly that's about the extent of it above and beyond babble. We're beginning to suspect that something might be amiss and wonder what the community thinks. Our pediatrician suggested a couple months ago that his obvious comprehension is an overriding factor.
Also, in our travels, we came across a troubling checklist of things to look for in an autistic child. Spinning in circles, walking on toes (sometimes not always), covering ears, etc. It was a bit alarming because our son does all of these things. But we all have cancer if we go by the symptoms in books, so....... Thanks for any answers.
8 AnswersToddler & Preschooler1 decade agoWhat is the best way to save for a baby's financial future (not college)?
The Ric-E Trust is an insurance product that allows a family member to put a lump $5000 sum in at/around birth and by age 65, the child may well have enough to retire on from that single investment. I don't like insurance products and don't particularly want the money locked for 65 years. I'd like advice on what vehicle to save in and whether it should be in the child's name or my own.
