What is the difference between common and preferred stock?
According to eHow, the difference is that preferred stockholders can receive profits through dividends. But can't common stockholders receive dividends as well? I don't understand.
1 AnswerInvesting9 years agoQuestion about meditation?
1. Do I have to be sitting up in that cross-legged position (what's the name of that position again by the way?), or can I be laying down on my bed while I meditate?
2. Should there be complete silence or can I put some peaceful ambient music? Also should the lights be on or off?
3. I'm supposed to silence my mind right? How can I do that? It seems I am always mentally vocalizing my thoughts, and I can't stop them before they happen because mental thoughts are spontaneous.

This is not about whether you think abortion should be legal, only whether or not you perceive it as murder.

24 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoWhy do feminists contradict themselves?
Feminists say they are for gender equality, but then when questioned about their support for men's rights, they say "men should stick up for their own rights" or "that is a job for men". Case in point (first answerer):
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AoDaC...
And when men do fight for their rights via Men's Rights groups, they're accused of being misogynists!
When will feminists realize that men are not disgusted because we want them to fight for our rights, but because of this blatant contradictory lie that mainstream society is too blind to see?
8 AnswersGender Studies1 decade agoWhat exactly is the gold standard?
I'm sorry but I'm pretty much retarded when it comes to economics...I know that the gold standard has to do with what we base the value of our dollar on, right? Well what system are we on now and how does this compare with the current system? Also what are the pros and cons of a gold standard? This isn't for homework I'm just curious. Please explain in detail

2 AnswersEconomics1 decade agoWhy do some think it is OK to use force to deter marijuana use?
Not that I encourage marijuana use, but the ends don't justify the means. Let me illustrate with an example.
Let's say I would like to stem obesity. This is a noble goal to have in mind. So my plan to do this is to start a movement to ban fast food and candy. Also, anyone who uses fast food and candy will be fined, thrown in prison, and have a permanent mark on their record. In the end it sounds noble because I say I am helping fight obesity, but nonviolent civilians are caught in the crossfire with legal troubles, fines, and ruined records. Do the ends justify the means? Is it excusable to use excessive government force and absurd overregulation of citizens' private lives to make small changes to society in this way?
12 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoAnarchists - how would you solve the problem of justice?
I understand that governments create alot of injustices but this question concerns some of the basic, most fundamental acts of injustice, such as murder, rape, etc. How would these problems be solved in an anarchy? Let's say I took someone out into a forest and murdered them in an anarchy state. How would this person receive justice without a well-organized justice system with the forensic technology to tell who committed this crime, and bring me to justice?

...which I heard that you can, then why didn't I trip when I ate it?
I didn't eat nutmeg to try to get high but before I knew it could make you trip I had it...I've had it several times before I knew it could make you trip, in egg nog, etc...
4 AnswersAlternative Medicine1 decade agoWhy shouldn't medical marijuana be legal?
A recent poll showed that about 3/4 of the American public supports legalized MEDICAL marijuana (will post source if asked). Marijuana does have valid medical uses as a pain medication.
Yet why are some people still opposed to medical marijuana? There are several pharmaceutical products on the market, legal everywhere, that are based off of methamphetamines and opiates. They are basically the equivalent of "medical meth" or "medical heroin", yet noone is complaining about these or fighting their legalization.
So if we approve of these methamphetamine and opiate-based pain killers being on the market, then why not medical marijuana? If anything medical marijuana would be a healthier alternative to these substances.

10 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoCalculus problem with definite integrals?
I could've sworn I'd answered this right but apparently not:
Explain why the formula:
[Integral sign with (8) on top and (1) on bottom] of 1 / (x-4) = ln|x-4| = ln(4)
Answer choices:
A) There is nothing wrong with the answer
B) 3 The answer should be equal to ln(2)
C) The integrand is not defined at x = 1.
D) The integrand is not defined at x = 4.
I thought it was C but apparently I got it wrong. I know what is wrong with the formula. It forgot to subtract F(1) from F(8). But that is apparently not one of the answer choices.
Anyone who can give me the correct answer will earn 10 pts.
Thanks

2 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoIs it worthwhile to write a letter to my congressman?
I'm sure congressmen/women, or all politicians for that matter, probably receive a crapload of mail everyday, alot of which is unsolicited. If I write them a personal letter, or send them an unsolicited email as a private individual, is there any chance it will get read?
5 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoIs hemp really illegal?
I bought some hemp protein from my whole foods store, but I heard it was illegal. It came form Manitoba Harvest, a company in Canada I think. So is it legal to import hemp, but not grow it?
