I am an atheist and a libertarian. If you've been offended by something I've said, don't take it personally; I'm just as irreverent in real life as I am on the internet. Christians: Would a Jesus zombie movie be considered blasphemous?
In Matthew chapter 27 when Jesus dies on the cross, the following events occur:
[50] Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
[51] And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
[52] And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
[53] And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
[54] Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
So, if someone made a movie about a Roman regiment of Centurions having to do battle against zombies in Jerusalem, would it be controversial or offensive?
Would it be considered blasphemous if they took a few liberties with the story and added Bruce Campbell reprising his role from "Army of Darkness" or made the movie as a prequel to "Zombieland" and called it "Zombie Holy Land"?
4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoChristians: How do you define atheism?
I know how atheists define it; how do Christians define atheism? Jews, Muslims, Scientologists, Cthulhu Cultists, etc are welcome to play along, too.
Best answer goes to the most concise definition given by a theist, so state your gang affiliation in the answer.
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoA question for everyone: What constitutes intolerance?
Does mockery = intolerance?
Is thinking the government shouldn't promote any religious beliefs at all a form of intolerance?
My opinion: I think Christianity is only topped by Scientology on the silliness scale, yet I feel that people should be free to practice whatever religion they want to. If that makes me intolerant, so be it.
I'd just like to hear from all sides... what do YOU think the word "intolerance" means?
11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWiccans: Did you pray over my Halloween candy?
From Charisma Magazine:
"During this period demons are assigned against those who participate in the rituals and festivities. These demons are automatically drawn to the fetishes that open doors for them to come into the lives of human beings. For example, most of the candy sold during this season has been dedicated and prayed over by witches.
I do not buy candy during the Halloween season. Curses are sent through the tricks and treats of the innocent whether they get it by going door to door or by purchasing it from the local grocery store. The demons cannot tell the difference."

8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHave Ray Comfort & Kirk Cameron ever successfully converted an atheist?
Not even taking their idiotic "Banana Argument" into account, their apologetics seem kinda weak. Okay, *really* weak.
Have they ever managed to snag an atheist (or a Muslim, Pagan or Jew, for that matter) using their cartoonish arguments?
22 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIf the Bible had been written in 1980s, would Jesus have used the words "rad" and "totally tubular"?
Were the Pharisees, like, bogus?

You know... for JW's who knocked on the wrong doors, so to speak.
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoChristians: Could you please pray for an end to all these 2012-related questions?
If a week goes by without seeing any "What do you think will happen on December 12, 2012?" questions, I might consider it a sign of divine intervention...
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoShould religions offer cash signing bonuses to atheists who convert?
Isn't the immediate promise of cold, hard cash more effective than the future threat of eternal damnation?
To put it another way, wouldn't Pascal's Wager be more effective if the reward was something a little more tangible?
7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoShould Christians who believe they will be raptured be allowed to operate vehicles?
Think about it: if the rapture occurs, vehicles barreling down the interstate at 70 mph will suddenly become unmanned, endangering the lives of motorists. Airplanes will lose their pilots, turning the aircraft into unguided missiles.
Would it be in the interests of public safety to keep such people off the roads?
Furthermore, do any Christians who believe in the rapture voluntarily stay off the roads, or do they go willy-nilly along their merry way, not caring if their vehicle causes a 20 car pileup on the freeway because Jesus decided to call them home?
3 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoAtheists: How can you deny the One, True, God when you have no excuse?
You no longer have a reason to disbelieve.
25 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoYoung Earth Creationists: Besides biology, what other sciences do you deny?
I have a hard time keeping track, so I'd like to tally up a list...
1) Biology (RM/NS, cladistics)
2) Geology (Geologic Column, varves)
3) Astronomy (age of the universe, distance of stars, etc)
4) Physics (speed of light, radioactive decay)
Am I missing any other fields of science?

22 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoChristians: Does getting saved/born again involve the loss of free will?
I keep reading answers from Christians stating "there's no such thing as an ex-Christian" or "If you became an atheist, you never were a Christian to begin with" or something similar.
My question is, when one becomes "saved" or "born again" do they lose the ability to opt out of Christianity at a later date?
And if a Christian becomes an atheist but then returns to Christianity at a later date, is their salvation suspect because they weren't really saved the first time around?
15 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoAtheists: Do any of you have nightmares about bananas and peanut butter?
Since bananas¹ and peanut butter² are an atheist's nightmare, I was wondering how many atheists actually have nightmares/recurring dreams about these items.
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDo FLDS polygamists proselytize?
I'm curious... I would think the polygamist sects of the Mormon church would want to attract the occasional outsider just to buff up the gene pool a little bit.
Do FLDS sects try to gain new members from within the mainstream LDS church, or do they proselytize to all faiths?
I guess the main thing I wanna know is, has say, a Jewish woman from New York or a Catholic woman from Boston ever joined a polygamist branch of the LDS?
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoCan I still be a Christian if I replace Jesus with Robocop?
Robocop has the resurrection thing going on
His prime directives (Serve the public trust, Protect the innocent, Uphold the law) aren't ambiguous in any way
Like Jesus, he has an extremely violent movie associated with him.
