  • How much to charge for art commissions?

I've been a professional graphic artist with a company for years so I'm used to being paid a wage. I've been asked what I'd charge for commissions, specifically for doing logo/t-shirt design work and I'm not sure how to break down a fair price range. Any suggestions?

  • Help putting together turtle/crab terrarium?

I have a couple nephews with hermit crabs and baby turtles as pets. right now they just have small plastic cages for them. I suggested making a terrarium (vivarium). I haven't seen the turtles yet but from the description I'm guessing they're painted turtles or red eared sliders. Yeah, I already know that turtles are not good pets for kids, they really haven't a clue what they're in for but at least they understand the threat of salmonella. I'd like to at least get them off on a good start.

First off, would it be all right to house the hermit crabs and turtles together? Second of all, does anyone have any suggestions for how to set up a vivarium style tank for these animals (plant suggestions?) or a good online resource to research? The budget is pretty limited and the tank size will probably be rather small for now at least. Any help to me to try and guide them in the right direction would be appreciated, thanks!

  • What paint should I use on a vehicle?

I'm painting a graphic and lettering on a delivery truck. I've created a stencil but I don't know what type of paint I should use. The truck already has a simple white finish. I don't want a spray paint as there will be some hand detailing involved. This graphic needs to last a long time without cracking or fading.

  • How do I keep cat litter from being tracked around the house?

My cat's box sits in a spare room with a wood floor. it's on a mat that's supposed to trap litter and it does, but not completely. The mat in turn is on a large area rug which also helps. Still, it doesn't take long for litter to collect all over the house if I don't sweep the cat's room every other day. Is there anything more I can do to keep the litter confined? Are some litter brands more prone to collecting in a cat's paws than others?

  • A sea of dense water under the ocean is...?

It might have been on the Blue Planet series I saw this covered, but I can't recall the details. It was near a cold seep that undersea explorers discovered an "underwater sea". The water in it was more dense than the surrounding water, so the dense water sank and formed its own distinct layer, complete with a rippling surface and shoreline. What I want to clarify is what causes this layer to be so heavy? Does it have significantly more salt dissolved in it? Or is it the result of other chemicals in the water? What makes the sunken sea different from the surrounding water?

  • If the flag on the moon is fluttering in a breeze, then why?

Moon landing denialists like to point to the flag and say: Look! it's moving in a wind. Must be fake 'cause we know there's no air on the moon. So answer me this. If there's a wind blowing, then why isn't all of that powdery dust that's covering everything, that the astronauts kick up every time they take a step, why isn't it blowing around? For the flag to stand out like that must mean there's a good stiff wind. So where's the dust storm? In fact, if you look at the dust when an astronaut kicks it up, it falls straight back down again. Even on a calm day on earth, dust doesn't fall like that, it floats. It doesn't go thud to the ground. It's not wet either as wet dust wouldn't be kicked up like that and break apart into a cloud as seen in the videos, it would form clumps. No clumps here.

  • Finding 3D Tree Models/Tutorials?

I'm experimenting with modeling trees and plants in 3D Studio Max 6. My goals are moderate to low polygonal counts. Are there any good tutorials online for modeling plants and especially trees? Better yet, are there any sites one can download, for free, tree and plant models? I'd rather examine the models themselves but barring that, a I'll take a good tutorial.

  • Ending the Moon Hoax Conspiracy?

In the 1960's and 70's, NASA sent 6 manned missions to the moon. This is absolute fact, but as is hideously apparent on these forums, tabloid reporting has convinced far too many people that the Moon Landings never happened.

Sadly, no telescope on Earth, and not even the Hubble have resolutions high enough to allow viewing of the artifacts left on the moon. Is there anything orbiting the moon that can actually take pictures of the landing sites? If so, is there any way to convince the people operating the orbiters to photograph or record the Apollo sites so we can shut these conspiracy mongers up once and for all?

  • Photoshop Clone Stamp Tool Settings?

    I'm using Photoshop CS

I use the Clone Stamp Tool to paint textures at work. Recently, the software had to be reinstalled and some of its settings have changed. One thing that now works differently than it had before is the Clone Stamp Tool and I don't know how to change it back.

Before, I would select an area to clone. I'll call the exact point I clicked on the Origin Point. Then, as I painted a new area with the Clone Stamp Tool, the clone curser would mimic the movements of my paint brush over the area so long as I held down my mouse button. When I released the mouse button, the clone curser would snap back to the Origin Point.

Now it behaves differently. The clone curser does not snap back to the Origin Point if I release the mouse button. Instead, it maintains its current position. I do not want this as it makes it very hard to paint large irregular areas using the Clone Stamp Tool if I'm cloning a texture from a small pattern swatch I made.
