Can it be right for Costa's to use its chain of coffee shops as a mouthpiece for the Conservative party?
I ask because I have noticed that the only newspapers put out for Costa's customers are: The Daily Telegraph, The Times, The Daily Mail and The Sun. I asked a member of staff why those papers were chosen. "We have no choice," She replied. "It is company policy only to purchase those."
I like my coffee without receiving a dose of right-wing politics!

1 AnswerCleaning & Laundry9 years agoIs out National Anthem any longer appropriate?
Bradley Wiggins has been criticised for apparently not singing the National Anthem when receiving a medal. It is, however, a hymn, asking God to save our queen. With our society becoming steadily more secular, is it time for a change? I do not wish to be disloyal but, as an atheist, singing the National Anthem would stick in my throat.

3 AnswersHistory9 years agoWhat happened to the pigeons? All appeared dying or dead, then they recovered.?
Travelling along the A45 near Daventry, Northants, a couple of days ago I noticed, across three fields, dozens of dying or apparently dead, wood pigeons. Some were on their backs, feet in the air; some were feebly flapping their wings. Had they been poisoned I wondered. An hour or so later, on my return journey, there was no sign of dead pigeons - just a large number of them feeding voraciously on the crop of rapeseed.. There had been a hailstorm earlier in the day but surely that can't have been responsible. Any ideas?

A group of friends and I are creating a nature reserve and want to create a largish pond (say 100 square metres) but haven't the resources to buy a commercial pond liner. Can anyone suggest an alternative?
4 AnswersConservation9 years agoFor how much longer can Ed Miliband go on as leader of the Labour Party?
Labour M.P. Dennis Healey once famously said that being attacked by Sir Geoffrey Howe was "like being savaged by a dead sheep". David Cameron must now be regarding Ed Miliband's verbal assaults in much the same light.

Often I need to use italics for emphasis or for a Latin plant/animal name. If I use capitals I am told that I am shouting.
2 AnswersProgramming & Design10 years agoShould Answers have a section dealing with archaeology and ancient history?
The nearest it seems to offer is a section on anthropology. I know Answers can't cover everything but archaeology is such a fascinating and rapidly developing field of research. Or have I been looking in the wrong place?
6 AnswersAnthropology1 decade agoIs advertising on yahoo answers permitted?
A lot of it is appearing lately.
6 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoShould we not demand music-free shops?
I spent two hours shopping today. Every shop had talentless wannabee pop singers wailing banal songs in the background. Even - dare I mention it - in Marks & Spencer's. Does inflicting us with this drivel mean that they have no respect for their customers.

There is a widespread saying: "It's looking black over Bill's mother's." It means that rain is on the way. But where did the expression come from?
6 AnswersSenior Citizens1 decade agoWhy did the Chilean miners thank God for their rescue?
Vast resources in terms of money, skills and resources were put into their rescue and yet they virtually all thanked God. We can admire their bravery - but their logic leaves much to be desired.

A survey indicates that only about a third of United States citizens accept the scientific basis for evolution. Given the immense power of the USA and this woeful ignorance, should we be afraid?
