5 AnswersAstronomy & Space7 years agoelephant ears removal for a garden?
I am totally new to gardening and want to grow some jalapenos in my little garden area, which is about 3X5 in an area under an overhang so it gets a good bit of sunlight but will not get scorched, and probably wont get much rain so I will have to water them.
My question is how do I get rid of the elephant that are growing there? Every winter they shrivel and die. They don't completely disperse just wither up and turn brown and come back in the spring. SO how do I get rid of them and prepare my future glorious pepper site for growth?
4 AnswersGarden & Landscape7 years agoinfrared heaters question?
im confused as to how infrared heaters works. if they put out infrared light waves which heat up objects through radiation, why do they have elements that get red, is it because the light waves heat the element up and then the element puts out heat. or do the wavelengths come from the light produced by the heated element. if its the first could you take out the element and blast infrared light directly at the concrete wall and just heat up the whole wall.
2 AnswersEngineering7 years agoelectric motor question?
is it possible without the use of gears for motors to be built differently and have different speed and torque and what not. Are there different windings in the motor that could make this possible,
Im trying to figure out because I need a 90 degree gear box to spin at 100-500 rpm with an output at 120ft lbs of torque, and boxes are available in all different ratios but seem to all only want a max of 1800 rpm, so I need a 10 to one ratio but at least 12 ft lbs coming out of the motor itself.
1 AnswerEngineering7 years agofraction confusion for carpentry?
1/3 of 1/8 equals 1/24
but tape measure don't have 24ths listed and Im trying to cut even sections of plywood
so since 24 falls directly between 16 and 32 I figured that 5/64 should equal 1/24 but it doesn't

1 AnswerDo It Yourself (DIY)8 years agoi dont brush my teeth?
I used to brush my teeth twice a day. floss and use mouthwash. I got a lot of cavities and though man i need more of this.
My brother doesn't brush hardly ever or use anything else and is 27 and has not one cavity so i though maybe there is something to this.
I stopped brushing except when It felt like I need it, this is what my bro does. feel fuzzy brush. any how over the last few years my dentist has said my teeth look great and my cavities have gone down. They do say I could floss because I have some inflamation. But I had more before I stopped flossing, so any one else have this happen
I think brushing hard 2 or 3 times a day destroys your teath

1 AnswerDecorating & Remodeling8 years agono grout in shower use?
my shower which I recently tiled has yet to be grouted. I got called away on business for 3 weeks. Is it ok for my roomates to shower in it without grout. I used hydro barrier under the tile and on the walls over CBU. Hydro barrier is like red guard for those that dont know.
4 AnswersDecorating & Remodeling8 years agowhy run pipes through slab in new construction?
when making a new building that is built on a slab, why do you cast in the plumbing and electrical conduit. While obviously affording protection, it seems like this would just make it difficult to repair or remodel later on. Why not run it near the slab and just buried a foot or two. obviously certain things like a drain will have to go under the slab if there is a drain several feet from a outside edge. But I would design it so all drains are on an outside wall.
8 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)8 years agoi hate you shower pan?
why shower pan? Why are you so hard to build correctly? why does the center of you dip so low, too puddle water? how is it that when i spread the concrete with a straight edge I get a bow? smooth and straight is all I ask. So please shower pan kiss my ***.
2 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)8 years agoply wood pre slope shower pan?
I am going to make a shower, my pre slope was going to be concrete, but I totally F'd all that up. So now Im thinking why not just use plywood. there seems to be this general belief that it will flex alot and then the tiles will break, but what about tiles in say the kitchen or in the bathroom(but not the shower). I would cover the ply wood in thin set and then CBU and then put hydrobarrier on the CBU. any tile setters out there please stop me if you think you should. Other wise ITS ON!
Also im a damn good carpenter so it will be an even slope
6 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)8 years agoshower pan is too brittle?
about one year ago I made a shower. My wife didn't like the tiles so I finally got around to removing them and, while I did I noticed the shower pan started busting up, the part above the rubber membrane. I used a hard pack, 5 parts sand to one part Portland cement. after one year of use it should be cured rather hard by now, and being constantly wet from use should have really allowed it to cure hard (we did not use it for one week after initial pour) what did I do wrong or is this pretty normal. All I had to do to break it up was hammer a 8 inch pry bar under with a 2 lb hammer.
1 AnswerDo It Yourself (DIY)8 years agoreplace mitre saw motor?
I have a mitre saw with a burnt out motor and I want to replace it. I could just buy a new one from the company but I did that already and that one burnt out also. So I want to buy a new motor from somewhere else. The motor says 2200 watts which is about 3 HP, BUT, is that constant run or do you think its peak power.
