  • 8 year old bed-wetting on nightly basis?

He pees just about every night and I'm washing his bedding just about every day. We've tried pull ups and he's even peed through them some nights, but then we worried we were giving him an excuse to not get up and go to the bathroom at night. We tried encouragement. He picked out his own bed, sheets, and bankets and he loves them. We tried treats and little presents the morning after he didn't wet. Then we tried discipline. We took away the tv, games, movies, play time, gave him extra chores... He doesn't eat or drink after 7 PM each night.

He had open heart surgery in his late infant/early toddler stage and his grandma says the surgery causes him to wet the bed. Are there tricks to stop bed-wetting or is his grandma right?

  • Gull bladder removed... What are some low fat meal ideas?

My sister had her gull bladder removed today and has to be on a low-fat diet for 2 weeks so I'm packing up the "temptation high fat foods" that I know she can't have and joining her in the diet. Other than fruits, veggies and things labeled low fat, what can we eat/drink?

  • How did my new cat get Rabies?

I just adopted a young male cat from the SPCA in my county 2-3 months ago for my parents because their cat died of old age. I paid the adoption fee, and for his vet bills when we had him. The new cat had been kept inside since then, and so have my parents other 2 cats. They are all completely indoor cats. We've had him to the vet in a different town (because the one in my town is unreliable and overpriced) and they treated him for ear mites and an inner ear infection that kept him from walking well and now I get a phone call that the vet in my town put him down because he had rabies. Even at the vet he did not come in contact with any other animal and my sister and I were able to stay with him the whole time. How did he get it? I don't live with my parents so I don't know what symptoms of rabies he was showing or if he even HAD rabies. Should I be calling the SPCA to let them know? I'm thinking he got it while he was there, but I don't know enough about rabies to start accusing people.

  • How do I teach my cousin's dog not to Bully mine?

While my cousin is working 5 am- 4 pm he leaves his dog at my house. And my cousin is a real piece of work. He does not listen to me when I tell him his dog (pit bull mix) cannot be in my house while he is at work. He has plenty of other people without dogs that would take the dog while he works but he says I'm just a kid and I don't know anything and keeps bringing him up in the morning.

Well we just got a puppy and he is 4 months old and my cousin's pit bull mix attacked him the other day and just today he attacked my dad's chow/boxer mix. If my boyfriend were not there I doubt I would have been able to get a pit bull off of my puppy and I'm here alone until 3 PM. The pup was fine, just scared for quite a while, but he drew blood in multiple places on my dad's dog, mostly around the face.

Since I can't just throw the dog outside all day while my cousin is gone (weather), and I can't keep them in different rooms, I need some tips. I'd love to just take the dog to a shelter, but he's not mine and my cousin really loves the dog and takes care of him and all.

  • Cherry Eye. Is Surgery the best answer?

I just got my Newfoundland mix a little over a week ago. He is 10-11 months old. I bought him from a lady that claimed he was terrorizing her house and he was often locked in his kennel throughout the day and I was looking for a dog for my 80+ acre farm.

Well he has cherry eye and I took him to the vet the other day for his appointment. (My vet is understaffed due to "flu like symptoms" of some of her staff) While I was there she asked me if I was considering surgery. Yes, I am. He's my dog and if surgery is what it takes then I'll borrow the money for him.

But an "animal needing emergency attention" came in and she told me to make an appointment for surgery at the front desk and left! I left her a note at the desk with my name and number saying I had more questions about my Newfoundland's situation and if we could schedule another appointment but she has not called me back. We never had a chance to discuss other options (if there are any).

What are my other options/ are there any? Is surgery the best option for my dog? I trust my vet. My parents have always used this location for their animals and she has always been my vet for my dogs, but should I go see another vet as its not her fault she is busy and understaffed and the emergency definitely needed more attention than cherry eye?

  • So I got this Newfoundland Mix...?

He is a Chocolate Newfoundland mixed with Yellow Lab and is nearly 10 months.

The previous owner kenneled him far too often and he terrorized their home due to lack of exercise. I bought him for my 80+ acre farm and she promised he was absolutely potty trained, crate trained, and sat/stayed/shook on command.

Well... He is using every floor as a bathroom, even after just being outside for a half hour (more when he gets his twice a day walk), seems terrified of enclosed places (I don't blame him and have gotten rid of his dog crate and he now sleeps on the couch, I thought a crate would be comforting as he practically grew up in one), and doesn't even seem to know his name.

Is it the transition from their home to mine? I have started re-training him, but will I have to completely retrain him, or will he go back to normal in time (and in the time that might take would I just be better of training him myself?). And since he does not respond to "Koda", could I change his name?

  • My dog had Pups on the 10th. Can they go to new homes after 6 or 8 weeks?

This is my first experience with puppies (with me being responsible for them. My parents raised a litter when I was young, but I never have). I have some friends that are already interested, but I am unsure of when they can leave mom for good. I always thought it was 6 weeks, but a friend said 8 weeks.
