I have an image (PNG) containing all the characters of a font (specifically, it's the font file from Minecraft). Each character takes up 8x8 pixels. There is no buffer between characters. I need to break this image down so that I have one image file for each character in the image. However, there are a LOT of characters, and it would take me HOURS if I did it by hand. Is there an easy way I can break this up?

If a program doesn't already exist that can do this, would there be an API for Java, PHP, JavaScript, or C++ that would make this easy? I don't mind writing up a quick program for this if there's an easy way to do it.

I run a Minecraft server, and an annoying bastard joined shortly after I opened it to the public. After many rule infractions, he was finally banned permanently. He has since managed to hack the server or something. He says he is going to target the server tomorrow. He has also told one of the other players "i'm gonna kill u". I have the IP address of this villain.

What, if any, legal action can I take against this person? Thanks!

I recently became infected by an annoying virus that disguises itself as the system process svchost.exe. However, this executable is "Svchost.exe" instead of "svchost.exe". According to Extensions Task Manager, it is located at C:\directory\CyberGate\WinDir\Svchost.exe, although when I go to that folder, it's not there, and when I try deleting the file in Command Prompt, I'm told it doesn't exist.

A new instance of this process is started every couple of seconds, so within a short time, I have hundreds of them and my computer is running terribly. How do I get rid of this? If you need more info, please request it in a comment and I will add the details.

If there is a network, what network is it and at what time?

I use Excel to make Latin vocabulary lists in a way that I can import them to Sporcle quizzes. Often, I'll have a line begin with something like "-----" or "+", and Excel will give an error or try to transform the line into formula, screwing everything up. How do I get Excel to shut up and ignore anything that it thinks is a formula?

We have a TV with a DVI port associated with two RCA plugs for audio (i.e. the red and white ones). We need to connect this to our Xbox 360, which has an HDMI port and a SPDIF port.

We already have a DVI to HDMI cable and an RCA to Headphone cable. I looked into converting the TV's RCA to SPDIF, but the only converter I could find was $53, so I imagine it's not the cheapest way (here's the converter I found: http://tinyurl.com/26ze7rd ). Is that the only way, or is there a better, cheaper to connect the Xbox 360 to the TV? Thanks!

My iPad is currently synced with one computer, and I plan to switch it to another computer. Most of the apps have not been synced with the old computer, but Angry Birds HD has. I have fully set up a Crystal account with the game, so will that account save my data if I remove the game then reinstall it? Thanks!

I want to sync my family's iPad to a new computer, and add movies, music, podcasts, etc. From the new one, but keep the apps from the old one. On the new PC, I set iTunes not to sync automatically and plugged in the iPad. I clicked on the name of the iPad in the iTunes sidebar and went to each tab of different content (i.e. Music, Movies, Books, Info, etc.) and set it to sync selected music, movies, TV shows, and podcasts, but made sure NOT to sync apps. However, when I clicked Apply, the warning popups scared me off. Will I lose the apps if I sync my iPad with the new computer, even though I have the "Sync apps" box unchecked?

I noticed that, in Google Chrome, the history and downloads appear as special webpages. I also noticed that addresses of these pages are in the chrome protocol (chrome://) rather than http, about, https, ftp, or any other familiar protocol. I was wondering if there was a list of addresses that exist on the chrome protocol. At the recent NCAA Final Four games in Lucas Oil Stadium, I noticed a special camera. It was hanging from four corners of the stadium by long wires. The wires whizzed the camera above any location on the court. The camera also had the ability to swivel in place to look in any direction.

I know this camera was used by CBS because I saw parts of the game broadcasts that I could tell were from this camera.

I just installed the Nero 9 trial (the website said it was an update for people who had older version, but it really was just a free trial). When I installed, it changed all of my file types to Nero types. JPGs became NeroBlahBlah.9.JPG. This happened to all common image and video (including DVD) file types.

Now, looking in the File Types tab of Folder Options, it seems it tried to change a lot back. However, none of the file types settings for what happens when I click on them, and the few that have icons have the icons from Nero.

Is there any way to restore all these file types to their previous settings (from before I installed Nero) without having to do so one by one in Folder Options? I am comfortable editing the Registry or any other system file if it would make the job easier.

If there is absolutely positively no way to fix this quickly, please say so. I may still give you best answer.

In Windows XP (it may still happen in Vista, but I haven't yet observed it), I remember that, for empty memory card slots, the drive icon in My Computer would be washed out. If I would put a card into that drive, the icon would appear in full color. In the system Registry (or in Disk Management or anywhere else), is there a way to set this up? (in regedit, I am looking at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\DriveIcons ) This way, I'll have Icon A appear when there's nothing in the drive, and Icon B appear when I put a card in the drive. Thanks for the help!

NOTE: I am using Windows Vista Home Premium. The Registry key I mentioned early SEEMS to work exactly as it did in Windows XP, but I could be wrong.

ANOTHER NOTE: I am planning to use this on drives that do not neccesarily appear in Disk Management (ex: network memory card drives). If your method absolutely must use Disk Management and/or not work with network drives, then do post it, but otherwise try to avoid this kind of problem.

I just upgraded to iTunes 9, and I absolutely HATE it. I found a website ( http://www.oldversion.com/iTunes.html ) that has iTunes 8.0, but I have to first uninstall iTunes 9. What, if anything, will I lose or have to re-setup if I uninstall iTunes. Should I deauthorize my computer before the uninstall?

I am a middle child. My older and younger brothers both have gotten angry enough at a game to hurl and damage video game controllers, and PlayStation 2 seems to have the most vulnerable controllers. Over time, we have bought 5 controllers, and 4 of them have been damaged (and the 5th one is bulky, and overweight, and thus not fun to use).

I haven't been able to find ruggedized controllers (though I'd love to see some), so I ask: Is there some way to treat controllers to strengthen them against rage attacks? If the answer is no, then are there super-strong controllers out there that I am missing?
