  • Lost confidence since graduating and becoming a waitress?

I'm a graduate who doesn't know what to do with my life (career wise) so I just became a waitress to pay the rent and give me time to think. At uni, I was fairly confident and assertive - I did presentations to the class, conducted my own experiment and also did some coaching at my sports club. I felt really hopeful about the future but my job now feels like a step back and returned to my shy teenage self - I've even started blushing again!! :(

I love everyone I work with but the job itself is repetitive and the managers (quite rightly) expect everyone to be their best and to go the extra mile to contribute to the business because there's times when I don't even think I can be a good waitress. I really want another job but feel I wouldn't be able to do it. Does anyone have any advice on how to gain more confidence please?

  • How to be strong for a grieving friend?

My friend's nana has died after being in a care home for a while due to Parkinsons. It was rather sudden as she deteriorated in the last 36 hours. From the stories that my friend has told me about her, she sounded like such a wonderful, caring lady, and even the nurse who was there was crying and said what a beautiful woman she was.

My friend is obviously so devastated and very upset, which hurts me because she is also a wonderful person. I would like to be a strong person she can depend on and share her feelings with, but I am an emotional person and cry easily, which I don't want to be 'offputting' for her. Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

  • Dog growls at another dog, the other dog licks it?

My mother's boss owns two dogs, Spaniels, who are brothers, called Billy and Jonny. Whenever Jonny gets near Billy, Billy will show his teeth, growl and sometimes lunge at him. Jonny will then start to lick at him. It also does that same thing when my dog gets near it.

Yet, 5 minutes later, Billy and Jonny will seem to be best friends and are cuddled in their bed together. It also is perfectly happy around humans, it will wag it's tail and let you pet it.

Does anyone know why Billy growls so much? I can't train him or anything as they're not my dogs! I was just wondering about his behaviour

    Thanks :)

  • Mental stimulation for a dog with limited mobility?

My beautiful 12 yr black lab, Sally, has been diagnosed with bad arthritis in her front paw and will put little weight on it (basically hops on 3 legs). Vets orders are no walkies for a week and she is missing not going on them!

I am looking for ideas to help keep her happy and stimulated. As she can't walk properly, I don't want to try games like tug-of-war, giving her her favourite toy to chew (she gets very into it), or give her a kong for fear of making it worse.

I have spent time with her and fussed her, brushed and groomed her, left the radio on, and she is now sunbathing outside ^_^ but can anyone think of any other things to do with her so she won't get bored?

Thanks a lot for the help, Sally and I appreciate it :)

  • Please help! Dog not putting weight on front leg, keeps it tucked under her when laying down.?

I have a 12yr old small black lab, and yesterday my brother took her for a walk and apparently he heard her slip and she was just limping a bit with her back leg (not uncommon for her). But when he got her home, she went to her bed straight away and later on when she went to lie on her cushion instead, she wouldn't put any weight on her FRONT foot instead and her paw was dangling (a bit of weakness on her back leg still).

She keeps it tucked under her when she's laying down, and occasionally it will lift a bit. She only got up yesterday to eat her dinner and I had to help her up to go outside for a wee. I tried to help her up again this morning by supporting her weight underneath her so she could get to her feet, but she yelped (even though she didn't put weight on her front paw) and then starting shivering a bit and breathing a bit more rapidly-i've read that this is from bad pain-but that lasted a few minutes after she lay back down again. She does not cry out when she's laying down, she just stays in her bed. I can't see anything in her paw but she won't let me touch it that much.

Please help, it breaks my heart to see her like this and we don't have any pet insurance any more so I'm fearing the worst if it's broken. :'( Thank you.

  • How else can I say "it could be argued that..."?

I'm trying to think of a different phrase to mean 'it could be argued that' i.e it could be argued that laptops are better than computers (lame example I know, but you get the point :P)

I don't want to put anything like 'it has been found' 'cause then I'll have to back it up with research, which means finding some! Basically I'm trying to put my opinion without saying 'I think' or 'in my opinion'...

    Thanks in advance :-)

  • Help! I've forgotten my 16-25 railcard!?

Hi, I'd really appreciate quick answers on this.

Basically I've left my 16-25 railcard at home and there's no way I can get back to collect it before tomorrow morning (when my train is). What can I do? Will I have to pay for full fare? I've checked online and the tickets range from £47-£117 which is obviously a lot of money! Would I be allowed to pay the third back that I saved when using it?

    Thanks a lot.

  • Do you know anyone who says 'Leavin' me on my bill', meaning 'own'?

So this person I know, from Newcastle, keeps saying 'bill' which I think means 'my own/alone'.

i.e. "Don't leave me on my bill"

"I'll just go on my bill then"

I have NEVER heard this before, and another person from Newcastle has never heard it before either! So...is it just something she's made up or is it a phrase we've not come across before?

    Thanks :)

  • eBay help...can I agree a price with a seller for an item?

So I'm wanting to buy a roll up piano and I've found a good 61 key one on eBay. It's bidding item, not a Buy It Now one.

My question is, can I email the seller and offer a price, rather than go through the normal bidding system and wait till the end, in 4 days? I'm so desperate for a roll up piano as I'm at university and can't bring my big keyboard with me :(

    Thanks for your help :)

  • Why do some UK universities start later than others?

Does it reflect the sort of...level of pupils that go there i.e. if some start late, it means that they go at a faster pace, and get stuck into it?

Mine started on the 21st Sept, but my friend is starting on the 12th October!

  • Do you like it when calender dates make a pattern like 09/09/09?

So I don't know if it's just me, but I like when dates make some sort of pattern, so today it's 09.09.09 (no matter whether your american or british!) and when it's things like 04.05.09, I'll like it because I can do a sum out of it, 4+5=9. I loved 14th March (3.14), using the american system, because it was pi day and 3rd March because it was square root day (03.03.09)

I do it with digital clock times too. So if it's 7:07 it spells LOL upside down, and silly things like that. Although that's probably from the primary school days of putting 0.7734 in to say 'hello' upside down, and 5318008 to spell.... :P

    Does anyone else do this?

  • Paying university accommodation booking fee/deposit?

I'm a little confused as I have a place in university accommodation and just have to pay the 200 pounds deposit. I want to pay it into the University bank account straight from mine. But the problem is that it says that I have to send them a copy of the payment receipt, but if I do it online how do I get a receipt?

    Thanks in advance :)

  • Can I take my digital piano to university?

I'm going to uni this September and would LOVE to take my digital piano with me. It's full size, I'm sure it would fit in the room, and I have earphones which I would obviously use to not disturb the others. But would it still be allowed? I just don't think I could go months without it!

  • Do people like growing old?

From what I hear from my grandma, she doesn't like growing old. Obviously that's just one person's opinion though...

I realise 'old' can mean a range of years, so I'll let you define how old 'old' is!
