If you are studying American slavery whose view do you give the most weight and who do you think is the most reliable source. Slave or slave owner?

I have two sets of first person sources. Slave owner journals/letters/memoirs etc. and slaves narratives and interviews collected by Fisk, the WPA -- Works Progress Administration, and slaves who escaped to Canada (Northside Narratives). The sources cover the same area and same period of time -- whose view do you think carries the most weight -- that of the slave owners or that of the slaves. When they differ on significant issues who is more reliable?

She gets no dialog. After her photo shoot. When they are commenting on her photo's everyone talks but they never let you hear her dialog. And then say she has a bad attitude. If so why not let us hear it?

If we respond to these types of questions are we as responsible as the people who ask them? If there wasn't a forum for racist wouldn't they sink back into their corners?

I'm an intelligent adult who knows I can't convince a racist not to be racist. Most of the questions are so juvenile I know they must have come from a child/teen. And what is the point of trying to one up an idiot. Yet I am continually responding to ridiculous discussions on race.

Does anyone else feel compelled to respond to racist questions?Why? Do you think it would be better to just ignore them?

There have been so many questions about Black history month. Fitting I guess considering that it's Feb. But what do you think of the way history is taught in general? Just approach the question from any direction you like from pedogy, to practice, to experience in a history class.

If you can be certain that one group has oppressed another group would you say that the record of the event given by the oppressed is more significant than that of the oppressor. Assuming they can not be given equal wieght.

I'm asking the question in general. I am specifically looking at first person accounts of american slavery.
