  • Differential Equations?

    dT/dt = -k(T - T_room)

Solve the differential equations to show that

    T = (T_intial - T_room)e^(-kt) + T_Room

    Thanks :)

Of course shape is a loose definition. I mean pac-man doesn't count in the above shape :) And it should be something and everyone will refer to as the same thing

I want to see what you guys can find :)

  • Boggle Word Possibilities?

I hope everyone knows how to play boggle.

Imagine that you have a "magical" boggle board where any combination of letters will create a word.

How many different 16-letter words can you make?

Note: You can go in any direction from one square to another including diagonally. You can start anywhere. And its a 4x4 boggle board.

    abcd is different from dcba

    Thanks,

  • When do I record this transaction?

Lets say you are doing the books for a company, and the fiscal year is ended.

If you receive a hydro bill on August 5th(Fiscal period ended July 31st).

Why don't we record the transaction for the next fiscal period but in the July 31st period?

I don't really understand why you would.

    Thanks!

Lets say that you have a bank loan out that you make partial payments(agreed upon with the bank) every year.

I'm talking about a company btw.

  • Arab and Islamic Difference?

    Hi,

I'm doing a project related to Arabs, and I am wondering if I can include info on Islamic. Mostly because the wikipedia article sort of groups them together. I know that islamic is the religion that some arabs have, but could I consider them the same?

Also, does Arab have negative connotations compared to Arabian. And are those two words the same.

  • Math Ratio Involving Speeds -Question?

    Hi,

I'm just wondering if there is a general formula to solve a question like this.

There are two people, and you are given the distance between them. They each have different given speeds and they are going towards each other.

Find out either how far one or both will go(until they meet), or how long it will take for them to meet. I mean getting any of the both info will lead you to all the info quite easily.

Because I know that, if someone is driving along a path, at one speed, then back at another, you can just find the Harmonic Mean. But I'm wondering if there is someone similar to this kind of problem.

If there isn't one, just solve it with variables :D

    Thanks!

  • Weighting Balls. Find Answer in 3 Weightings?

    You have 12 balls and a Scale/Balance.

You have to find which ball(there is only 1) that is lighter or heavier than the rest. You have to also find out if the ball is heavier or lighter.

You must find all this in 3 Weightings using the scale.

The closest I came is 4 weightings which is quite easy.

    Any Ideas?

  • Distance Possible? Desert-Water problem?

Hey, So I came upon a really neat problem today.

Basically, you start at a water source and you want to see how far you can go into the desert. It doesn't matter if you can't get back out. You can only carry a Maximum of 4 days worth of water at a time. Given the amount of water that is at the water source, how far can you go into the desert?

I am looking for an equation to model this, if there is one, and I would like to see the answer for numbers that are larger than 10(and to check to see if my answers are correct)

Days worth of Water : Distance possible

    1 : 1

    2 : 2

    3 : 3

    4 : 4

5 : 13/3 * read note for how to get this

    6 : 14/3

    7 : 5

    8 : 16/3

    9 : ?

    10 : 51/9 * See note 2

    11 : ?

    12 : 6

    13 : ?

Note: For 5, you go 1/3 of a day in the desert, and drop off 1/3 of days worth of water and then go back to the water source. Pick of 4 more days worth, go to where you dropped the water off and pick up the 1/3 that is already there and then just walk for 4 days.(You used exactly 5 days worth of water)

Note 2: Go 1/3 way into the desert, drop off 1/3 and go back. Go pick up the 1/3 and go another 11/9 of a day in there, drop off 11/9 and come back. Then pick up 4, and go all the way, while picking up the 11/9.
