  • Massive headache on left side of head. MRIs and blood tests are clear. What now?

I usually have two a day but they start randomly. It began with an occasional headache about early Aug. By mid Aug it was more consistent each day. The pain will be in kind of a kidney bean shape across the left side of my head, sometimes including some neck pain on the left side. The intensity will be focused around my temple and radiate back from there. I've even noticed a bulging vein at my temple that I don't remember earlier. I am not sensitive to light or noise but movement and my own footsteps will make my head feel like's it's going to explode. I've had three MRIs, two of the brain and one of my neck and arteries. We've also ruled out Temporal Arteritis. My gut tells me there is something blocking or pinching the artery in my neck, but the doctor is saying nothing can be found there. He's referred me to a neurologist which can't see me until the end of next month. The Tramadol, Sumatriptan and Tylenol I take only help a little. Laying down for an hour or just relaxing will help more (another reason I think it's a circulation problem). But there is usually a residual feeing in my head like it's always there, lingering, ready to kick my *** out of nowhere. I'm relatively fit, healthy, normal blood pressure, and I don't feel stressed. I drink a little coffee, maybe 8-10 oz a day, stay away from junk food and sodas.

I'm at a loss for what to do next. I don't know what a neurologist can do for me when I see her in 5 weeks if my MRIs don't show anything.

  • Will hiring an attorney negatively affect my own auto insurance in California?

I was hit while commuting on my motorcycle. The other party was found at fault. I am going to need knee surgery and I'm considering hiring an attorney as medical bills may exceed the other party's liability coverage. I've heard that my own uninsured motorist coverage can be used to help cover costs. But I'm concerned hiring an attorney will negatively affect my own policy. Everything I find searching for help with this is usually a response put up by a law firm discussing getting as much as possible. Anyone else have experience with this regarding how it affected their own insurance coverage? This will be my first accident in over 20 yrs and with the same insurance company and agent's office. I don't think the agent even matters as much any more though.

  • Looking for a standard "Authorization to Disclose Health Information" form?

I was in a car vs m/c accident months back here in California. I'm nearing the end of my treatment and am thankfully going to make a full recovery. I have been dealing with the insurances on my own and everything has fallen in my favor. However, I'm not comfortable with the wording on the forms from the other party's insurance requesting my medical history for my treatments. They need the history to determine my settlement but I don't want to give them everything, just the days of treatment pertaining to the accident.

Is there a standard form out there in PDF form that I can use instead that would allow me to specify the days of my records that they can have access too? I know even the clinics can goof up and send my entire history unless I list specific dates I want sent. Searching has turned up Medicare forms and a very close form but from Ontario, Canada. And not, not all doctors have this form either. They rely on what the insurance sends them in the request.

    Thanks in advance.

  • What goes in 1/2" gap from driveway to garage?

I had a rear slab/driveway poured at the back of my garage years ago. The wooden strip that was between the concrete slab and garage foundation has rotted away to nothing. What typically should go there? I'm thinking there's got to be some rot resistant material that would work better now but don't know what to look for. The gap is about 4" deep.

  • Can the Antigravity Microstart XP-1 be recharged from a motorcycle with a 400 watt charging system?

For example, while on a long trip I'd like to use the XP-1 for my laptop during photo and video downloads in camp at night and then recharge it on rides during the day. The XP-1 specs don't list what it draws while recharging. Thanks.

  • What bike did I see?

I know this is an idiot question but I'm at a loss. My wife and I both ride. My wife is only 5' and is limited on her choices of bikes and none seem to be sport bikes. All too tall for her.

I end up at a light behind girl on a sport bike and I notice she's tiny. So at the next light I ask her how tall she is and she says 4'11". Then I ask what she's on and she says something that sounds like 'Z60'. I have earplugs in and thought I misheard her so I ask again and what she says again still sounds like 'Z60'. Light turns green and she bolts. So I know there's no Z60 but what sport bike would sound similar to that? It was all black and new with paper plates. Full faring, twin headlamps. She had the plate (Bert's Mega Mall paper plate) moved underneath already and I saw no badging on the bike at all. The aftermarket pipe was a shorty on the bottom right. Any ideas? Looking at bike images and nothing is seems familiar. Thanks if you can help.

  • Can I replace sole plate with Doug Fir or Red Wood treated with Copper Green or must I use PT?

There's a portion of the sole plate on my 1928 "garage" (12' x 18') that is rotted and has some Drywood termite damage. I think it was creosote treated before. I know about Copper Green wood treatment so can I use that with either rough sawn Doug Fir or Redwood to get the lumber closer to the dimensions I need to match the old lumber dimensions? I know it's a more expensive option but the lack of thickness of the lumber is what's going to give me problems. My cheapest option is ripping down a 4x6 to get the dims I need but then I'm still treating with Copper Green to cover the exposed cuts, right?

    Thanks

  • Laying down 4 7/8 wide flooring, what width do I start with?

I am floating snap lock flooring that is 4 7/8" wide in a bedroom that is 119 1/2" wide and over 11' long. The manufacturer suggests 1/4" gap all around at the walls so that leaves me 119". I calculated that I need 1" strips of the flooring on either of the long walls. However, the 30" wide entry door is on a long wall and I will be starting the boards on the opposite wall. So my question is, do I go with the 1" wide starter and finisher boards or do I recalculate so that I have a whole board at the threshold of the entry door? As I'm typing this out I'm mentally picturing that the 1" wide starter and finisher boards will look better and I shouldn't worry about how wide the board at the threshold will be. What do you think?

  • Are there any down sides to long term use of ProAir HFA? Can I get off it?

I am 41 and this past year my doctor prescribed Pro Air. I had a little pneumonia last year and he said it'd help me breathe at night. It's been a year since and I find I still have to use it at night at least 5 times a week. I seem to wheeze almost as soon as I lay down. I've thought maybe it's just in my head but it gets worse if I don't use the inhaler. I don't want to become dependent on this. Right now I only take 1 puff which I think is only half a dose. But I've otherwise been very healthy and have never needed an inhaler until now. I'm hoping increased cardio will help me breathe better eventually. I'm usually active but had torn cartilage in my knee last May and I've been recovering from surgery. I'll be hiking again soon and hopefully that will help.

  • Off-the-beaten-path sights in Wyoming?

I'm looking for sights and places to stay in Wyoming that are not the usual touristy places. We'd like to get close to Yellowstone but don't plan on spending any time in the park. We will be driving up from CA through UT and then back down into CO with our two dogs in a 4x4 and plan on doing a bit of hiking. What are some scenic areas that will be off the usual path?

  • What thickness underlayment to use for vintage 3/8" oak strip flooring?

Our Southern Calif. home was built in 1928. We still have the original 3/8" thick by 1 1/2" oak strip flooring and other than gaps it's in really good shape. We've been told that it has spread too much to make it worth refinishing as it is and it's very squeaky, it moves alot under foot. I'm considering pulling up and relaying the flooring in at least one of the smaller bedrooms. It's only 10.5' by 11.5' plus a small closet. I know this would be a LOT of work but we really like these floors and want to do right by the house. We've already done some restoration work on the exterior, plus I like projects like this. My question is what thickness of underlayment should I lay down once I have the flooring pulled up? The subfloor is diagonally layed 3/4" thick planks with 1/2" spacing. Would 1/4" 5 ply be good enough?

  • What thoughts on Scorpion EXO-900 police helmet for a civilian biker?

I am not a cop and I do not want anyone to thinking I am a cop. But I really like the look of the Scorpion EXO-900 modular police style helmet. And I also like making sure people see me on the road. Any thoughts on having a helmet like that in Calif? They are sold to the general public and the police add their own decals. I have seen one other biker with it and he was on the Honda sport tour police sometimes use so it got my attention real quick. I guess my concern is attracting the wrong kind of attention, or am I just over thinking this and should get what works for me?

  • Good way to learn Spanish?

I will be stuck at home recovering from knee surgery soon and it ocurred to me this might be a good time to try learning a new language to pass time. I already know a few phrases in Spanish and can understand better than speak it but I'd like to build on that. I know of Rosetta Stone but are there other, possibly inexpensive, ways that I can learn at home? What has worked for you? Is there an effective free way online?

  • What thickness drywall to use on ceiling joists with 16" on center? And why?

I have removed the sagging cracking plaster and lathe and am putting up new drywall in a room of my 1928 SoCal home. The ceiling joists are 16" on center. Can I use just 1/2" drywall since it's lighter or do I need 5/8" to prevent sagging in the future? Or will that even be an issue at all?

    Thanks

  • Name of a foreign film, sounds like Knick Knacks?

I need help remembering the title of a movie. It was a foreign film and I think it had to do with a boy who's dad was killed in an explosives or mining accident. Dad might have even been a criminal killed in a robbery explosion he caused. I can't remember what year or what language it was in. I think maybe German. And I think the title may have sounded like knick knacks. A friend recommended it a while back but I was only able to find it online un-subtitled and gave up. I now have Netflix and want to find it again but can't remember the title.

  • 1928 attic insulation questions w/ 2x4 construction?

I have a small 1928 house in Southern Calif. that is all 2x4 construction. The roof is tall and steep so there's plenty of head room in the attic for storage. There's a combination of blown in and old rolled unfaced batting insulation, it's all very dirty, a lot of it has been moved around, missing or compressed. The entire attic was used for storage, hence the moved and compressed insulation, but the weight has caused cracking in the living room ceiling since it has the largest span of 2x4s, this will be addressed later. For now I want to reinsulate myself and allow for storage in selected areas that are not over the large unreinforced spans. I've been moving back some of the batting, taking out the compressed blown in, and have some plywood layed above walls instead of centers of rooms. What r-value do I want in my attic and how can I acheive that and still be able to do it myself? The last time I had someone in my attic was to install an HVAC system years ago and I'm still finding damage from him working up there. I'm thinking of adding to the tops of my ceiling joists were I want to lay plywood for storage so I can fit new batts of insulation but charts at the home center say I should have R30 and I think that's thicker than 6". Also, for the areas that I am not adding to the 2x4s do I still run the thick R-30 or something thinner so I can cross lay more batting to cover the joists?

    Thanks for any help.

  • Should I have a shop recharge my A/C or do it myself?

My air conditioning had stopped working on my '91 Accord. I had used one of those parts store kits that has the fittings to "convert" to R134 and charged it up that way. It worked great for about 2 weeks then quit again so I figured I had a leak somewhere. I looked at my evaporator(?) (core under the dash) and expansion valve and it was clean, so I son't think the leak was there. I changed every seal and o-ring, both hoses, and resealed the compressor all with parts that said R134 compatable on them. So my question is should I have it recharged by a professional shop now or can I just recharge it myself with another parts store kit since there was nothing in it when I replaced the seals? And if you can back up your answer with some info it would help too. I've heard I'll have to replace my dryer, expansion valve, condensor, etc etc, but no one can tell me why. I didn't have a compressor failure, just a leak. I would think I'd only have to replace the dryer and other parts if I had a compressor failure to prevent any trapped metal or debris from wrecking the new compressor.

    Thanks for the help.

  • What's out there for good two way communication systems for bikers?

I'm looking into two way communcation systems for biker helmets. Turns out there's more out there than I thought there was. What brands and models are out there so I can start doing more homework on them. I know of Nolan (I know, helmet specific) and Parrot, but what else?

    Thanks

  • Changing HVAC register from retangular to square?

Before remodeling our kitchen we had central HVAC installed. Now that I've finished the remodel I need to re-install the ceiling register for the kitchen. It was a 14x6x8 along the center of a shared wall with the bedroom. I guess the installer didn't want to have to deal with the tight spaces working next to the undersid of the roof. I need to move it to over the rear door and window but my old ceiling joists are not far enough apart to accomodate the 14" wide register box. What size square register and box would this convert to? A 9x9x8 maybe? And I'll have to find a 45 or 90 degree box to fit between the ceiling and underside of the roof.

  • Don't want cable or satellite to record shows.?

We are looking into replacing our 15 year old TV and VCR set up with an inexpensive flat panel, a way to record shows, and possibly add Netflix. Though our age of TV would suggest otherwise, I am not totally tech ignorant, we just don't watch enough at home to want all the new gadgets so I'm a bit out of touch with what's available. And I don't want a cable or satellite bill. Netflix seems like it would work better for us and I've seen some internet compatable DVD players. The internet compatable TVs are out of our price range from what I've seen. Or we could use our computer's wireless router to a Wifi DVD player. So is there a DVD or Blue Ray player with Wifi that can record to an HD as well? So far the only Wifi compatable players I've seen don't and they are only Blue Ray players. What are some other options? I've seen the Moxi and Magnavox DVRs online with built in tuners. The more info the better.
