  • How much slower is the mail around Mother's day?

I'm in California and I want to ship a package to my mother who lives in Hawaii by Mother's day, this Sunday. On the USPS website, they say that if I send the package by tomorrow, it should arrive around saturday; however, being that it's mother's day this Sunday, I imagine that a lot of people will be shipping things and mailing letters and whatnot and so I imagine that it will actually take a bit longer....

Is that accurate? Is there any chance that it'll actually arrive on time? What about mailing a letter?

  • I just spilled root beer on my bed. Do I need to use water to clean it up?

The sheets are dark grey so I'm not too worried about stains. Or...should I be? Can I just use paper towels to absorb the liquid or do I need to go get water as well? What will happen if I don't?

(I live in a college dorm and I have no sink in my room. To get water I'd have to walk aaaallll the way down the hall to the bathroom :p Yeah I'm lazy like that)

  • Got a container says not to microwave but I microwaved it anyways. Will I die?

It's this Eco Products container and it says that the inside is lined with "plastic made from plants not oil" and it says "do not microwave. But I didn't see that it said not to microwave and I microwaved food in it anyways. Can I eat my dinner still? D: Or should I throw it out...

It was only for a minute and a half.... I microwaved this Indian Cuisine stuff. Kinda soupy. Not sure if that matters or not...

  • Accidentally took twice the amount of Ritalin perscribed...?

I usually take 60 mg Adderall XR per day. I was officially diagnosed with ADD in 7th grade. I'm a senior now. I used to take 20 mg Ritalin per day but switched to adderall when Ritalin caused me to feel extremely anxious and irritable.

Today I forgot to take my dose of adderall. I carry a small container of 20mg Ritalin with me so I figured I'd just take that instead. (Ritalin is instant release)

However, while I take 2 30mg pills of adderall each morning, I only take 1 20 mg pill of Ritalin at a time. I haven't taken Ritalin in so long I forgot. I'm so used to taking 2 pills so I accidentally took two Ritalin pills meaning I took twice the Ritalin dosage that I normally do. (40 mg) Sort of freaking out, here. I'm at school right now and I feel really strange. Looked online for some sort of advice or info but couldn't find hardly anything.

Can anyone give me any info at all?

  • May have left iPhone in rental car. Would they just take it?

I've lost an iPhone. It was probably left in the rental car. Budget. Would the people who clean the car really just take it? Do they have so little integrity? I lost it in San Francisco, if that makes any difference. I called them and they said they checked the car and didn't find it. Should I assume the people who cleaned/parked the car just took it? I, in all my naivety, find it hard to believe that people could be so thoughtless. Do those sorts of people have that kind of reputation?

I'd much rather assume that since the rental car place didn't have it, that I must have lost it elsewhere.

  • Is this olive oil safe to use?

I have some olive oil that says was harvested in fall of 2008. I'm not sure when we bought it. The expiration date is July 2010. It was opened a while ago. Probably when we first bought it. We have one of those spout things stuck in its head. I live in Hawaii so the temperature is pretty warm throughout the day....

Is it rancid? I smelled it and it seemed ok but I feel like it's probably bad by now!

  • Would it be inappropriate to bring my friend in to one of my therapy sessions?

I'm really just seeing this therapist because my mom really wants me to and is scared that I'll fail at life if I stop seeing her. The only technical mental problem I have is ADD. But I'm not really struggling with anything specifically right now...so my therapist and I just talk story the whole time. I've been seeing her since I was in 7th grade (that was for family issues, though, which have since been resolved) and I really feel that I know her well and, of course, that she knows me really well by now too so it's comfortable and easy going.

So basically my friend has some pretty heavy questions that she feels she can't talk to her overbearing, overprotective, conservative parents about, nor can she talk to any of the hardcore christian teachers at our school. I was just wondering if it'd be terribly inappropriate to bring her into one of my therapy sessions. I don't really know the rules or etiquette for this sort of thing so any input would be great :D

  • Can anyone help me think of what 60s/70s movie this was?

It was about this guy who had these hippie friends. He was more conservative in his beliefs. He decides to join the army but finds out at the last second that he's going to be shipped off to Vietnam. He has this girlfriend who he wants to see one last time before he leaves so his hippie friend decides to help him out. The friend cuts his hair and pretty much switches places with him. The the plan works flawlessly at first. The friend gets in, the guy gets out. He spends the night with his girlfriend.

But then...they get shipped out in the middle of the night so the friend ends up going to vietnam and he gets killed there.

Can anyone help me out with the title?

  • Having diarrhea while on Adderall?

I'm 17 years old, 158 lbs, 5'5 and I've been diagnosed with ADD since 7th grade. I started taking ritalin (20 mg IR 3x a day) about half a year ago but my doctor recently switched me to adderall because I had been complaining about feeling overly anxious and nervous.

I took 30 mg adderall XR for a while but didn't notice much of an affect so I switched back to ritalin until I could talk to my doctor. I was on ritalin again for about a week. After seeing her, she told me I could increase my adderall dosage until I felt it take effect so for the next two days I took 40 mg, then increased to 50 and have been taking 50 for the past few days.

However. I've been having diarrhea for the past few days as well! It must be linked to the adderall. It's not /bad/ diarrhea. I don't have to rush to the bathroom every 5 minutes or anything. But whenever I /do/ go to the bathroom....well... I won't go into detail. In any case, is there anything I can do? Will this ever stop? Do I have to switch to a different ADD medication? Please help :(

This doesn't seem to be a very common problem :-/ I tried reading forums and other Y!A questions but not many seem to have this side effect. Is it possible that it isn't from the adderall?

  • Is 30 mg Adderall too much?

So I'm 17, senior in high school and I have ADD. For a few months my doctor put me on ritalin. It was instant release and I took 20 mg three times a day. I hated the ups and downs, though, and I hated how anxious and jittery it made me feel. I read that Adderall was another good ADD medication and so I asked my doctor if I could switch. I heard that you're supposed to take half as much mg of adderall as you are of ritalin. (my doctor gave me XR for adderall) The first two days I took 20 mg but on the 3rd day I upped it to 30 mg. I had been taking 60 mg of ritalin before so I figured it made sense to take 30 mg of adderall. But I've been reading that 30 mg is a lot! Should I have taken it slower? Stayed at 20 for a longer time? Admittedly I don't feel that it's affecting me much. The first few weeks that I was on ritalin were amazing. Focus and motivation was incredible. I'm not really getting any of that with adderall. But maybe they're just different? I do feel it helps a little. Like in class I can concentrate. And it is easier to focus while doing homework. It's just not helping as much as I'd like it to.

Any input would be lovely. Too much? Should I cut back? Wait it out? I've been on the 30 mg adderall for about a week now.

    Thanks :)

  • What sorts of passions and interests must one have to enjoy being a doctor?

I'm currently a senior in high school, few months left until I graduate. I'll be going into undergrad as 'undecided' because frankly, I have no idea whatsoever what I want to do with my life. At all. There are /so/ many things I want to do! I just can't seem to choose. I've considered aeronautical engineering, being an author, something in politics, therapist, the research aspect of psychology, among many many many others.

And so now I'm thinking about being a doctor. I have no doubts whatsoever that intelligence wise I would be able to make it. I'm confident I could score well on the MCATS and get in to a fairly good medical school.

However. I'm not certain if I would enjoy being a doctor or not. I enjoyed my biology classes. Learning how things work fascinates me. I love learning about that sort of thing in my physics classes (hence my thoughts of becoming an engineer) as well as learning how the human body works in biology classes. I wasn't particularly fond of Chemistry, but I didn't hate it either. I love being in hospitals and I love the idea of the vast amount of knowledge doctors must obtain. And so my question is this:

What sorts of passions and interests must one have to enjoy being a doctor? How do I know if I'd enjoy it?

  • In the plane of the page (Physics-magnetism)?

What does it mean if a problem states that a wire is "in the plane of the page"?

    The specific problem states:

The long, straight wire shown in Figure 1 above is in the plane of the page and carries a current I. Point P is also in the plane of the page and is a perpendicular distance d from the wire. Gravitational effects are negligible.

    a) With reference to the coordinate system in Figure 1, what is the direction of the magnetic field at point P due to the current in the wire?

  • Feeling anxious on Ritalin. Anyone know why?

So for the past....two months maybe? I've been taking Ritalin. I was diagnosed with ADD when I was in 7th grade. I'm in 12th grade now and my ADD has really been interfering with my schooling so my psychiatrist decided to put me on Ritalin. It worked amazingly at first. Like my own miracle pill. I could suddenly concentrate on homework and in my classes.

However, recently a few hours after taking it, I realized that I begin to feel very very anxious. My heart rate speeds up, I get very tense, and almost feel shaky. This actually makes it /harder/ for me to concentrate. It got to the point a night ago where I couldn't do anything. I felt like a deer in headlights. Just sort of stunned. I don't feel jumpy, just tense, nervous, anxious. The ritalin I'm on right now is the "fast acting" type. I'm supposed to take 2 pills 3 times per day.

Lately I haven't been consistent with it. I just take it when I feel like I'm going to need it, like before school if I have a test or when I get home so I can concentrate on homework. Today I tried taking one an a half pill to see what happened, though the anxious feeling only came on faster than before. Not sure if it's coincidence? or...

My parents think it might be a good idea to try the longer lasting Ritalin or even to try being more consistent with it. Taking it every day at a set time. Do you all have any ideas? Is there something wrong? Should I stop taking it? Any help, any ideas you have, would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • I need help convincing my parents to allow me to buy myself an iPhone. Help me out?

I'm 17. Senior in high school. I'll be going away for school next year. I've had a job since I was 16 and don't see myself quitting until I actually leave for school. I make pretty good money and have around 3,000 dollars saved up.

My current phone is a mess. Broken buttons, weird buzzing noises, falling apart. Bottom line: I need a new phone and I /really/ want an iPhone. I've asked my parents if they will allow me to get one if I pay for the general cost and also for the monthly payments, but they still say no.

In their defense, I'm not /the/ most responsible person. I've broken my last two iPods, I lost my last two phones. But this is all in the past! I've had my current phone for a while and /rarely/ drop it. If I do, it's very minor. The iPod I currently have, I've had for three years now! And it still works perfectly. Not a single problem. I'm getting better with being responsible and I really feel that by now, I've shown that I /can/ handle having an iPhone and not losing it or breaking it. My parents, however, fail to see this.

Another question they bring up is this: "Why do you /need/ one?" To be honest, I don't. The only people who /need/ an iPhone are those who need to constantly check their email for work, or to schedule things, businesspeople. I'm absolutely sure that it will come in handy if I get one, but it's true, I can survive without one. Despite this, I still want one.

A few points I've been able to think up: I don't currently own a camera (don't even have a camera phone) The camera on the iPhone would be great for me to have. That way I/they don't have to spend extra money an a separate camera. I will probably need a new iPod soon. Three years seems a little long to me :p Rather than spending money on a new iPod, iPhone! Another handy feature is that I'd be able to record lectures (both now, in my last year of high school, and in college) so that I can listen back on them and use them to study. Then of course, there's the convenience of the to-do lists to help keep me organized. It will actually help my being so scatterbrained! I can keep track of appointments, meetings, homework, etc.! GPS would be helpful if I ever get lost, I can use the internet to look up the bus schedule, etc.

I consider myself to be quite independent. My parents don't like to drive me places so I have to take the bus everywhere. They didn't consider me to be responsible enough to get my permit for the longest time, and now that they will finally let me, they can never find the time in their oh so busy schedules to take me down to get it. I'm quite apt at getting myself places, figuring out which buses to take, arriving on time, etc.

I've never had texting or internet on a phone before. My mother didn't want to pay for the extra charges. I've never had an xbox, nintendo, Wii, any sort of "gaming" system really, nor have I ever asked for one. I simply wasn't raised with "video games". I feel that through the years I haven't asked my parents for much in terms of electronics and "toys" though when I really do want something, they won't let me have it. Even if I buy it for myself. I declare this to be a great injustice!

So, in conclusion to my incredibly long question, does anyone have any ideas of how I can convince my parents? They think it'll just be another thing for me to become "obsessed" with (the first being my laptop :p). I don't "need" one, I understand it is expensive, I understand that there are other cheaper similar phones, I have thought all of this through. I still come to the same concluding point. I want an iPhone.

Please give me a hand ^^

  • How much does /what/ undergrad school I go to affect what grad school I get into?

So I haven't been doing too hot in high school (3.59 gpa, showing a downward trend in Junior year, but there /will/ be an upward trend senior year so it'll go back up to maybe 3.7) And so I'm going to send in my first semester senior grades to the colleges I want to go to but I'm not sure how much good it will do.

So lets say I get into an ok undergrad school but then do fantastic, top of my class, As in every class, etc etc. and I apply to a pretty prestigious grad school like, say, Harvard or Berkeley. Will they look more at /what/ undergrad school I go to or how well I did while I was there?
