  • This just came to me out of the blue?

Whippersnapper here, under a new name..

If Rodgers and Hammerstein had composed the Sound of Music score long before the play and the Von Trapp Family Singers performed those songs instead of their normal repertoire, would they have received more reception?

Because, for those that don't know, the Von Trapp kids did not sing "Do-Re-Mi," but they did perform madrigals and learned recorder.

  • What makes you happy about The Sound of Music?

As a music student, most people assume my favorite part is the music and it isn't. The story that develops between Maria and the captain is my favorite.

This film is loved by many worldwide and I always find it fascinating to see the different things people love about the movie and the Von Trapp's story.

  • Speech problems or pure laziness?

When a grown man pronounces "think and three" as "fink and free" yet he's at university and does want respect in the academic community, why won't he pronounce his words correctly? He had speech therapy as a child and he said with him, it's just remembering to pronounce the diphthong instead of the "f" sound. I can understand a 4 year old having speech problems with that. I've heard them pronounce them before but that was only when I cornered him and made him pronounce a word correctly.

  • What traits and qualities encompass the virtuoso teacher?

I read Christopher Berg's article "The Virtuoso Teacher" from The Piano Pedagogy Forum and it is worth a look for those that teach or that are considering teaching. As I was reading it, I noticed many qualities in my teachers at USM, both in the music school and other disciplines.

    http://www.christopherberg.com/virtuosoteacher.asp...

Read through the article, list your high points, and then summarize what your picture of the virtuoso teacher is.

  • Computer is unusable due to Windows 7 crashing it?

My hard drive has been wiped 3 times because Windows 7 kept locking up and hanging it. And the only things on the hard drive would be the OS, my music files (either from iTunes or from legit CDs), and Kaspersky. Windows 7 has deleted my restore points in addition to making my computer only usable in safe mode. Completely ridiculous. And I do not have money to email or call Microsoft for support since they charge 50 bucks a pop for those. I'm wasting my money trying to get other people to fix something Microsoft won't support freely. And it is no surprise that my B****ing about charging out the door for their support question got deleted on here. Thieves and ex-cons is all I can say.

Windows 7 has a great look to it. I wish I was able to enjoy it more if the product could work correctly.

  • I work at a daycare and I need help on something!?

The daycare center offers the kids, on a daily basis, opportunies to purchase junk food at snack time. Most of the parents prepay or they send their kids with a buck to get fizzy drinks, laffy taffys, airheads, tootsie roll pops, and potato chips. The kids are offered sandwhiches and water, but alot refuse because they know they will get the junk food.

Then my kids are wild for 2 hours on their sugar rush and then cranky after it wears off. It's against state regulations for them to have that amount of sugar.

I haven't been working there that long, but I have worked for several years in other centers. I am afraid to say something to my boss or even mention changing to healthier snacks because either I will get yelled at for playing "director" or fired.

So what do I do and how do I handle hyper kids?

    Hello all,

I am looking for the "Beach Balls" quilt pattern by Fons and Porter featured in their July/August 2000 magazine: For the Love of Quilting. It is not available for purchase from the website though the magazine is listed in the archives.

If you could help me out, I would be much appreciative.

  • Windows 7 is deleting my restore points!?

    Hi there,

I've had problem after problem with Windows 7. The biggest issue is that my hard drive had to be wiped twice because Windows 7 kept crashing. On the second reinstall, the technician created restore points and made a restore disc. Ok, I get the computer home, restart Windows 7, and my restore points are gone. I insert my restore disc and of course with no restore points, it is useless.

As for the crashing, I'm really at a loss for words. My hard drive had to be wiped three times this year. First time, Vista toasted my hard drive, which was virus/spyware/malware free. Second time, I installed Windows 7 and must have downloaded something the computer did not like (Skype, Chrome, Adobe Acrobat, iTunes) and it kept hanging and crashing--so I wiped it. The third time, the only thing I put on there was Skype, Kaspersky Antivirus, and my music from my external hard-drive (the music was either on iTunes or ripped from my CD collection--no illegal downloads). And what do ya know, it crashed again!

  • Engine Light on 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier?

My engine light stays on though the car runs fine. Gas mileage is good, no problems with brakes, and no weird noises coming from the engine. Yet my light has been on and off for 2 years. The last time it was taken to the local mechanics, $500 was spent on the car, and a few days later, the light popped on again.

    What is the deal?

  • Men, how do I tell my friend that his?

Guys, I'm not sure how to phrase this other than asking straight. My friend has very loose pajama bottoms and I'm pretty he sure he just wears boxers with them. The only problem is his package is rather large, and you can see the full outline shaped through the thin pajamas. I don't normally look down there, but even another friend's mom visited and she commented on it. Is there something fellows wear to keep their bits contained so these outlines do not show?

Also, how do I tell the guy?

    Thanks fellows

  • Why do I have trouble focusing on master's dissertation?

Why am I having so much trouble starting sections of my masters dissertation? Once I get started I'm fine, but I can't focus on it for very long. I've never been diagnosed for any kind of attention disorder, though as a kid, I daydreamed quite often. I actually would like to be one of those people that doesn't make a habit of procrastinating.

Each step I take is closer to my goal. It's taking the step that is the first step.

  • What would you do in this situation?

What would you if this is what a friend told you? "I'm tired of always showing concern for my friends. I care but I don't let them know that I care. I don't like having the weight on my shoulders. When I see them upset, I don't ask if they're ok anymore. I let them come to me.

  • Working at a restaurant, have you ever served celebrities?

This applies to fast food as well.

If so, were you in any way intimidated? Like did their presence make you step up your work?

  • How to deal with balance issues in friendship?

I feel a bit unbalanced. I'm the one to always text/email/message. She's happy to receive them, but I almost never receive anything in return. It's always better to give than receive, but I always feel like I'm always at the pitcher's mound, constantly throwing the ball to one of my closest friends.

Everybody needs their me time. She would rather watch tv alone in her room than sit at the table with me, thus leaving me all alone. Maybe I am overreacting, but I do feel lonely.

It seems like I am always making the first move. I've given her space and I plan to give her as many days of space as possible until she is the one to finally break the ice, like coming to visit me and just talk (my God, I don't care what about, just anything to show that I'm not being taken for granted just because I live downstairs). Three days is my estimate. We live in the same building.

Am I being unfair here? I'm here all day working on my masters dissertation, a lonely process in itself, and she's at work. But when she comes back, she grabs dinner and stays up in her room. Maybe the weekends will be different, I have yet to find out.

I think just avoiding any contact with her for the next few days is best. Maybe if she doesn't see me for awhile without any explanation (no messages whatsoever), then she'll learn that I'm not gonna be in this country for much longer. Make the most out of what you have when you have it.

This may sound very judgemental of me. We love spending time together and enjoy each other's company. She's passed the test as a true friend, so why do I find myself getting so jealous and clingy?

For one, I do not like feeling like this.

  • Type of paint for glass votive holder?

    Hi out there,

I just washed one of my candle holders and all the pretty orange paint came off. Well, now I have a clear votive holder, but now I want to decorate for a friend. What type of paint is best to use on glass, besides glass paints?

The ones I have are acrylic, watercolour, and oil-based.

    Thanks!
