Hi, My name is Rachel and I'm 18 years old. I love God and dedicate my life to him. I hope to one day rescue abandoned and abused horses. Then let the horses help with hurt and abused children. I'm home-schooled and I love it. I have a mom a dad and a 13 year old brother. I love animals, therefore I have a dog and 3 cats. I also have 4 horses. That's all for now folks! And by the way...My yahoo 360 says I'm 52 because I signed up under my mom's birthdate.

  • What is wrong with my horse's leg?

Noticed a bump on the outside of my horse's left hind leg about a week ago and I am a little concerned. She was in heat a few weeks ago and got really beat up (as you'll see in the pics) and about a week after she developed this bump..

I believe it's a splint but really would like to see what other people think. I have not been doing any riding with her...just bareback to and from the pasture. She is not lame but it definitely seems to be sore when touching it. It has not gone down at all in the past week. There is maybe a small amount of heat coming from it. I'm just very worried about this being bad enough to bother the suspensory..?

She had splints on both front legs also but those have now disappeared.

I am contemplating getting a vet out to look at her but if this is just something that will need rest I won't worry about it.

Here are some pics that I took a few days ago:

  • Why is my puppy peeing every 10-15 minutes?

I just recently got my second Golden puppy a few weeks ago. She is now over 10 weeks old and pretty much potty trained. She whines at the door and spins when she want to go outside. :)

Anyway, just this evening for the past 3 hours or so she has had to go out about every 10 minutes. She has pooed three times (not diarrhea) and peed every time. She has access to water and drinks plenty throughout the day. She ate about 4 hours ago.

Only thing I can think of is it's raining out and she loves it so she is looking for any excuse to be out there. But I didn't think a dog could piddle so much!!

    Could it be a UTI??

  • Crate training a tough puppy?! HELP!?

I just recently added a new little Golden Retriever puppy to my home last Friday and this is the first puppy that I've ever tried to crate train. I have a 3 year old Golden (got her as a puppy) but trained her by gating her into the kitchen. Unfortunately I can't do that with this one because our home doesn't have that kind of space. Anyway, I've been crating her in for short periods throughout the day (just started feeding her in it too) and keeping her in it from 11pm-6am. She has been howling and whining throughout the night and I don't know how much more my family can take. I've tried keeping her in my bedroom with me but it does no good...she couldn't care less that I'm right there. So now she is in the living room with a fan on her (she seems to get really hot because she works herself up so much). We take up the water at about 8pm and she is fed early in the evening (about 5pm).

She gets lots of play time throughout the day...we have a big yard and she love being in our 10x20 pen for free time. She also has my Golden to play tug o' war with and run around lots.

How long did it take you to crate train your puppy?

Any other tricks I can try?

I know it's not even been a week but my family is getting so fed up with this and I'm afraid someone will burst!

    Help!!!

  • 2006 Ford Explorer XLT V6?

Very close to buying a 2006 Ford Explorer, 99k, leather seats, sunroof, and in pristine condition. My question is...would this be a good decent car for me? I have big dogs so the trunk space is exactly what I need and we go on family trips about once or twice per year. I expect the oil change costs and a few things here and there that need maintenence but is this car going to be too much a lemon? I've looked up the consumer review and they are very mixed as I'm sure all your answers will be. But I need some help here! And the asking price is 11,991...I don't think I could get a better deal.

Thinking about asking if I could take it for a day or two to give it a good test drive..?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Trouble getting my horse on the bit while keeping her slow?

I'm having serious trouble trying to get my horse on the bit but also keeping her slow at the trot. I've been working a little with a trainer on getting her to accept the bit....I let her stretch down into the contact and slowly collect. She does very well at the walk and loves the contact. But once we get to the trot she speeds up and then I have to force the contact to slow her down. Half halts are not working and when I try to play with her mouth and get her to pay attention to slow down she just seems to get faster. When I keep a short rein at the trot she'll go slow but will be above the bit.

HELP! I've been doing circles and going across ground poles to try and keep her mind in work but she's just not listening!

What are some exercises I could do to get her going on the bit?

  • Horse that won't quit pulling...?

Today while riding my horse was extremely hard to control. Which is weird for her because normally she rides nice and soft in the mouth. She been like this the past two days that I've ridden her. But anyway, I felt like in order to control her speed I had to wrestle with her...anytime I let go of the pressure she would speed up and not stop. She's also started to get choppy even at the walk where she used to be relaxed and long and low.

What are some exercises that I can work on to help this?

I ride in a loose ring jointed snaffle.

    Thanks

  • Dressage mare..pics...??????

I got very few answers the last time I asked this so I'm asking again:

This is my 6 year old, 14.3 hand, Arab/Hackney/QH mare 'Pearly Gaits'. We've been working on our dressage. What do you think of my riding and her movement? What discipline do you think she'd be best at? How do you think her conformation looks?

I've been riding for 9 years and I've owned Pearl for a little over a year. We've gone to a ton of local open shows and Pearly never disappoints. She places in every class.

In these pics I was trying to get her parked out:

  • How much could I sell my horse for?

I've been trying for a few months now to sell my Appaloosa mare and I just can't seem to sell her. I had her listed in June for $4500 and over the months the price has been reduced. She is now down to $800!! I really need to sell her because I have another mare that I've been spending all my time with. I've been wondering though if it would be better to keep her and send her to training for a month or two.

    Here's her info:

6 years old, 15-15.1 hands, registered ApHC. She ride english and western. Most anyone can ride her at the walk but she needs an experienced rider at the trot and canter just because she has such big movement. She can also be a bit much to try and collect and slow down. This is why she needs a little training. She's a great project horse and has tons of potential. Anyone can handle her...great on the lunge line and in the round pen free lunging. Clips, ties, and loads.

    Here are her pics:

Why can't I sell her! I've had NO ONE come to see her!

What do you think she's worth?

  • Trouble getting my horse to canter...???

I'm having major trouble getting my mare to canter! She is being super lazy and then when she canters she won't pick herself up and hold herself. I feel like I have to support her by being in her mouth to pull her up but I don't want it to be that way.

I've always been very consistent with working her but lately I've only been riding her 3-4 times per week.

I ask her to canter by putting my outside leg on her and she used to just fly into the canter. But the last few months she's been very dead to the leg and stubborn. She is a mare with a major attitude and I don't know how to get her to listen to me.

I worked her in the round pen today lunging and then riding and she was horrible! I sit there on her while she's trotting as fast as she can yet she still will not break into the canter. After 10 seconds she will finally canter.

It's just discouraging because I had her to the point where she would move off my leg very nicely.

I've tried spurs but that seemed to make matters worse...she started bucking.

What are some things I can work on both in and out of the saddle to help her become more responive to my aids. I'm trying to do some low level dressage with her but I can't do that if she's going to be so dead to the leg.

Thanks in advance...videos would help too!

  • Am I too big...pics..???

Am I too big for my little Arab cross mare? She's 14.3 hands but very dainty and probably no more than 800 lbs.

  • Why is my mare's nose red..??????

I have a little Arab mare that has a red nose. It's hard to explain but it's red just were snot would normally come out. It's a little tender and red, and just a little swollen. She's fine physically, very alert and her usual spunky self. No runny eyes or difficulty breathing.

I moved her to a new barn about a month ago and this is when it seemed to start. At first when I saw her nose I thought she cut herself on some barbed wire fencing. But just today I looked at her and it's definitely a little more swollen.

I also started giving her Black Oil Sunflower Seeds about 3 weeks ago. Could she be having an allergic reaction? I have another mare that's been at the same place and she's been fine. They both eat the same amount of grain and sunflower seeds.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Help!! Rainy, Cold, and Windy...?????

It's 40 degrees rainy and windy where I am and my two horses are out in pasture. One of my mares I'm not worried about as she is very fuzzy but the other one is a small Arab mare that does not have much of a winter coat on her. They do have run in shelter but there are 9 horses and they are not friendly with each other. There are plenty of trees though.

I'm just freaking out as to whether my mare is warm enough!! What do you think?

How do horse keep warm in this type of weather?

  • Accepting the bit....???????

I'm having such trouble trying to get my Arab/Hackney mare to accept the bit. She fights it every step of the way whenever I have contact with her mouth. She will bring herself into a headset but quickly comes out of it and has to be constantly reminded to bring her head in. I can't have any contact with her mouth without her pitching a fit.

What are some things I can do with her to help her along. I have lunged in side reins but is there anything else I can do?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Gelding and mare.....??????

I just recently moved my two mares to a new barn. They are out 24/7 unless there is bad weather. There are two mustang geldings that are part of the herd of 9 horses. Anyway, one of the girls from the barn said she caught the gelding mounting my mare a few times.

She and I were laughing about it but then I got to thinking....and now I'm a little worried. I can't separate them either...they're in a huge 20 acre pasture.

My mare is very stocky but this gelding is pretty big (he's like a 16 hand Mustang who lived wild for the first few years of his life) and I'm worried about what he might do to her. Is it bad for a gelding to mount a mare like this.

Could there be any bad effects? I'm sorry for my stupidity on this subject...
