  • Please help with calculus!?

I have a quiz next week that will have similar questions to a sample quiz they gave us... can you show how they arrived at the solutions and the reasons for each step?

    Compute (2+i)(cos(pi/6)-isin(pi/6)) (Solution: √5)

    Compute (i+1)^6 (Solution: -8i)

    Find all solutions for z^3 = (1/i) in the Cartesian form. (Solutions: √3/2 - (1/2)i, i, -√3/2 - (1/2)i)

Please be as detailed as possible! Thank you so much

  • What ear piercing should I get?

Right now I have both lobes and my left helix (halfway down my ear, a bit lower than normal cartilage piercings). My ear is also the wrong shape for an industrial.

I definitely want to get another piercing, but I don't know which ear or where! I don't want my ears to be full of metal, and still want them to look quite feminine.

What do you think I should get?

    Thanks!

  • What is the Australian equivalent of the USMLE?

I've just moved from the US to Australia for uni, and I realised I don't actually know the medical school process beyond actually applying to medical school! Surely there's an equivalent to the US boards, right?

Please explain with detail if you can!

    Thanks

  • Bleached hair twice and now it's orange?

My hair is naturally a medium-dark brown, which I dyed red and then later back to dark brown.

Today I did two bleach washes with 30vol for 30 minutes each time. The colour turned orange, sort of like a vivid natural redhead colour. I expected this, but I'm not really sure what to do next? I want to go blonde, and my main reason for bleaching was just to get it light enough to dye over for a dirty blonde colour.

So what do I need to do next in order to do that? It's a very bright orange so I don't know if toner would work because I *think* toner is for when it's more blonde. I also don't know if an ash blonde would work. Is the only option to continue bleaching? If so, how long should I wait in order to prevent my hair from getting overly damaged?

    Thanks

  • Will reading books in Spanish help me learn Spanish?

I took Spanish for a few years in high school, my mum's side of the family speaks Spanish, and I've been trying to learn a bit more since I graduated. I can understand/read quite a lot, although it takes me a while to string enough correct words together to form sentences when speaking. It's a lot easier for me to write. I would say I'm probably an intermediate speaker.

My question is, if I read books I know well (e.g. Harry Potter) in Spanish, would that help improve my vocabulary as well as the four components (reading/writing/listening/speaking) of the language?

Do you have any other recommendations?

I'm 18, and well past the critical period for learning languages, but I would love to speak a language that half my family speaks.

Also I live in Sydney, and there aren't many resources available for learning Spanish.

Please give as much information as possible!

    Thank you

  • How to hide cartilage piercing?

I got my cartilage pierced today about halfway up my ear. I got it done with a needle at a reputable place with surgical grade stainless steel, and I'm over 18 before anyone asks.

Only problem is my family will have a problem with it. I've tried discussing it with them, and while they do say I can technically do what I like with my body, they also say they'll be very disappointed with me. I also imagine they'd probably shout at me a bit too.

So just to make my life a bit easier, I need some ways to hide the piercing. It's not at the top of my ear, so it might be a bit harder to hide. I have long hair, so what are some hairstyles and alternative ways of covering it?

  • How to sleep with a sore back?

I think I've pulled the two really large muscles that run up both sides of the spine. This is the first time this has happened, and I was wondering if there is any way to sleep that's either beneficial or not harmful to my back. I have very minor scoliosis (only 13 degrees) if that's a factor. I can sleep on my sides, back, or stomach, and I just want something that will lessen the pain.

    Thank you!

  • What would you call Whitney Whatley's style? (with pictures)?

I love the way she dresses and styles herself, so I want to know what the name of the style is so I can find more clothes and accessories like that!

It's kind of hard to find pictures that actually show what I like, but shes sort has a pin up/goth style, but she has bleached blonde hair, loves pink, and wears bows in her hair. It's hard to explain!

Please tell me what you think about her style and what its called?

  • How to get this hairstyle?

    http://media4.onsugar.com/files/upl2/2/20652/10_20...

I want to know both what to ask for at a professional salon, and how to do it myself.

Also, my hair is a medium-dark brunette and already about the right length. Can darker hair pull off this look?

It would probably be best if you gave me a website, but I really like her style and I already know where to get the pants and accessories and all that.

    Please help!!

    Thank you!

p.s. I don't necessary want the exact shirts, just that style. Not cropped tees, though, I know plenty of places to get those, mainly my kitchen drawer, where scissors are located.

  • How to convince my parents to let me volunteer in Africa?

It's currently Summer 2012 and I have found an opportunity to volunteer in Summer 2013. I would pay the majority of the cost to go, I might need some money from my parents but probably not much. I'm 16 now, but the minimum age for the program is 17, and I will be 17 by next summer. The job I would be doing is both handling, raising and caring for lion cubs and doing research on them and their habitats. I haven't yet brought this up to my parents, but what are some ideas/suggestions for how I can ask them that would convince them to let me? I know some of the arguments will be that it's dangerous to go to Africa (I'll be going to Zambia), and that the actually job (lions) is also dangerous. They'll also probably say that I'm too young to go alone, but there will be a big volunteer group with me. Please help!!

  • How to wear heels casually?

I'd LOVE to wear high heels casually, I'm very comfortable in them and it's easy for me to walk in them. I just don't really know how to wear them casually, because I always feel too dressed up. I love solid, bright coloured, platform shoes like:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Womens-Black-Pink-Gree...

    or

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Classic-Faux-Suede-Wom...

So do you have any suggestions on how to wear them?

I'm only 16, so I really do want to look casual, not at all like a business woman, although I am into blazers.

Please try to be really clear and detailed, I'm quite clueless on this subject.

    Thank you!

  • How old do you have to fly internationally without a parent/guardian?

I currently live in the U.S. and have an American green card, but I'm Australian with an Australian passport and citizenship. Next summer, when I graduate high school, two of my friends and I want to go to Hawaii and Australia. They'll both be 18, but I'll only be 17.

How old to you have to be to fly without a guardian from the U.S. to Australia, and vise versa? I don't want to get stuck in Sydney and get sent to my grandparents place haha.

Are there any forms my parents need to sign?

What documents do I have to bring with me?

I'm very comfortable with airports and foreign cities, so I'm not worried about that, just about if I'm legally allowed to go.

    Thank you!

  • How to apply to university in Australia from the U.S.?

I'm an Australian citizen that's been going to school in America since 7th grade. I'm currently finishing 11th grade, and we're starting to apply to American colleges.

The thing is, my family is moving back to Australia, and I want to go to uni there, but I have no idea how to apply. I want to begin in the Australian 1st semester (March semester), 2014. My top choice uni is Univeristy of Sydney.

I know that I have to apply domestically, but what requirements do I need that American high schools provide (APs, SATs, ACTs)? How do I apply? WHEN do I apply?

    Thank you!

  • Anything about LSU?..?

I'm a junior in high school, and my school starts really early for college planning...I have to have my top ten colleges list in 3 months. LSU is probably at the top, but is there anything you can tell me about it? Social, academic, athletic-wise or anything else? Also, what other schools are similar to LSU?

I want to major in a science (pre-med) and I live in Houston.

    Thanks!!
