Lupuswoman, Defender of Justice! is 30, pandeist, cute, and lovable. She also loves everybody and thinks everyone's religion is A-OK. And she thinks Bob Dylan is a stud. Is she sane? That is up for debate...

  • Why do medications sometimes contain lactose?

Is there a chemical reason for it? I've noticed in some cases it will depend on the manufacturer, so maybe it is just a good filler? It sure makes life hard for people who are severely allergic to dairy!

  • How long can tofu be left out?

My husband didn't put away all the groceries last night, and we just found a package of tofu has been sitting out for about 12 hours. It's the packed-in-water kind, not that vacuum packed stuff. It smells the same as always, but I'm kinda inclined to pitch it. Do you all think it's okay to eat?

  • New modem, and now my router doesn't work. Why?

The modem is the same model as the one before (Qwest Broadband), it was just replaced because the old one was broken. Now when we connect the router to the new modem, neither the main computer or the laptop get internet service. The modem works without the router, just not with it. Do we need to change some settings on the router so it will work with the new modem? Or should we just call my IT brother-in-law and make him figure it out?

  • Is being "pro-life except in the case of incest or rape" hypocritical?

First I want to say that I am pro-choice. I have known women who have needed abortions for many reasons--including rape--and have never regretted them, and I support their right to have made that decision.

But there is something that always confused me about anti-abortionists who believe this. OK, I understand that making a woman carry the child to term is cruel to the woman. But if you feel that a fetus has a soul, does the violent nature of its creation cause it to be souless? Of course not, you say, but then why is OK to abort one and not the other? There is still an innocent life at stake from this perspective. It just seems that you should either be all pro-choice or all anti-abortion and not make conditions--if you are anti-abortion because you believe that the fetus has a soul, that is.

I am not trying to be obnoxious; I am honestly curious about the reasoning behind the stance.

  • If you believe prayer can heal...?

Why doesn't it work for everyone?

The claim that some have been cured with prayer makes me uncomfortable, for it implies that some people are more deserving of health than others. Like they are more devout, or something. That if they tried hard enough, they would be better--sort of a "blame the victim" mentality.

And those " miraculous recoveries" some talk about--is there just a statisical probability that *someone* is going to experience a radical recovery, without God's involvement?

    What say you?

  • Opinions on this article?

I just found this article, and was wanting opinions. It is about a study that posits that religios nations have more crime. Specifically, it compares Britain and the US.

I know everyone hates following links for a question--sorry...

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article57...

I'm not sure what I think about this story. It seems to leave out religious countries in the Third World and such, but I think I agree to an extent.

  • Do you pray, use magic, or do nothing?

I just was curious about the different ways people could handle things. Like, say you had a huge, unexpected bill come. You cannot work overtime, you have nothing to sell on e-bay, you are not into prostitution, etc.: there is no way you can earn the money to pay it. Christianity says you should ask God for help, but also says you should trust that your needs will be met. Witches say you should take charge and will the money to you. I have some Taoist tendencies myself and would figure it will work out itself, but am wondering about other people's reactions. So...

Would you pray to God for help to pay the bill?

Would you cast a spell to bring you money? (Yes, I am aware some of you think that is evil--please refrain from reminding me of this.)

Would you do nothing and trust that it will work itself out (that is, somehow the money will come, or it'll turn about to be a fluke, or some other resolution)?

Or is there someting else you'd do?

  • Spiritually speaking, what song do you want at your funeral?

Funerals are religious and/or spiritual occasions, yes?

My grandmother is in hospice right now and planning her funeral. It's made me think what I'd want at mine. I'd like "Into the Mystic" by Van Morisson, and then

"Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" as a sort of recessional--you know, as people are leaving. I know that's sort of trite, but tough noogies!

What do you want played/sung at your funeral?

  • Antianxiety pills and dogs?

I have a fearful, formerly abused dog with issues. Normally, I am home all the time (I have health problems and don't work). However, my grandmother is dying and so I've been over at her house a lot lately. I can't really take her with me. (The dog, I mean!) My dog has stopped eating and is just having a terrible time with all of this. We took her to the vet to see if she wasn't eating from a health reason, but her health is fine. My grandma has several weeks left to live, so it's not going to get better for the dog soon. Has anyone here used antianxiety drugs on their dog? If so, should I get her some medication so she isn't so distressed? It would just be for a couple months or so.

  • What are the security issues with SecuRom?

I heard that in addition to making games crash, there were security issues with SecuRom. Are there? If so, what are they? I'd hate to know that Sims were dangerous.
