  • My headphones have no bass in one ear!!?

I've only had my Sony MDR-ZX300 for only 2 months or so, but since yesterday the right channel in the headphones only produce sound from the upper half of the sound spectrum. The left channel is alright, producing full range sound, but the right channel fails to produce any bass at all and it is really annoying.

I've tried 4 different audio sources (3 phones and my PC) but still no luck. Wiggling the 3.5mm jack doesn't help either.

Is there a fix for this problem? I don't want to waste money on another set just because the right channel has no bass.

  • How do I find the power rating of my amplifier?

I salvaged an old amplifier and restored it, but on the amplifier's original enclosure it didn't say how much watts it's rated. It's a stereo amp. Can I use a multimeter to find the peak power output?

P.S. The amp also came with two mid-range speakers which were also unmarked. Is it possible to find their wattage?

  • How can I make my own 100m sprint stopwatch LED number display?

I want to make a decently priced jumbo LED number display for a sprint event, similar in size to a basketball scoreboard. But unfortunately, decent sized ones cost well over $1,000 and well out of my $50 budget. So I'm thinking of making my own display out of a lot of individual LED lights. You know how calculator and digital wristwatch displays have digits displayed using 7 segment numbers? Like this: http://blog.makezine.com/huge_7segment_display.jpg

I want to make a composite 7 segment display that can display 4 digits; s s:ms ms. The segments should be 30 LEDs in size. So does anyone even have the slightest clue to what I'm saying here? Most of my questions that I don't know the answer to can never be answered here.

  • How can I replicate irregular plastic objects out of metal?

I have these objects that are made of plastic (specifically, an airsoft gun chamber and such) but I want them to be replicated out of metal so they won't break as easily. They are impossible to mould using two half moulds, because it is hollow on the inside and has unique three dimensional components which will be lost when moulded using half moulds. Is there a way for me to mould them?

  • How can I burn AVCHD videos/1080p videos to DVD?

    Hello everyone,

I have this bunch of 720p and 1080p .MKV torrent movies which are all obviously beyond the standard 720x576 DVD resolution, but I want to burn them to disc to be played on an AVCHD compatible BluRay player.

I once successfully burnt an AVCHD disc which could be played on my BluRay player before, with Australian PC User magazine's DVD-HD 2009 from the December 2008 cover disc. But sadly I lost this cover disc so I had to find an alternative. I've tried AVCHDcoder, MultiAVCHD and tsMuxer, but all of these programs resulted in a disc which couldn't be played by a BluRay player. I'm sure that I burnt the discs correctly, using ImgBurn using the UDF 2.50 filesystem.

PC User's DVD-HD 2009 does the converting and disc authoring all within the program, making the process easier than making a boot disc. Because of this complex simplicity, I can't find any program which makes the job as easy as DVD-HD 2009.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?? I already wasted 5 DVD-DL discs just trying to get it right.

  • Why can't PCs play games as well as game consoles?

I've searched and searched around the Interwebs for a long time, but I still cannot find a way to make a low to mid end computer run games as well as the PS3 or Xbox360. It should be pretty easy, right? A PS3 only has a 3.2 GHz processor, 256 MB of RAM and 256MB GPU RAM and a 550 MHz GPU. Xbox 360s have very similar specs; 3.2 GHz processor,512MB GDDR RAM and a 500Mhz GPU.

What I don't understand is how a PC with a 3.33 GHz processor, 4GB RAM, 1GB GDDR RAM and a 1.25 GHz GPU cannot run current games at even half the speed that a game console can. I am sick of my PC not being able to push DiRT 2 past 40fps on ultra 1080p graphics.

After a little Googling, I concluded that Windows is to blame. Why can't there be a gaming OS that runs on barely any system resources and still be able to run Windows games? Or, why can't we install a PS3 or Xbox 360 emulator OS onto a PC as a dual boot OS?

  • How can I extract 256x256 PNG images from ICO files?

There are a lot of programs and websites which convert high-res PNG to 256x256 ICO, but I can't find any which do the opposite (256x256 ICO back to 256x256 PNG). ConvertICO only does 256x256 ICO to 48x48 PNG.

I have this bunch of icons used by Rocketdock which appear as 48x48 but appear as 256x256 in Windows Photo Gallery. The problem is, even though the 256x256 ICO files are transparent in Windows Photo Gallery, I can't PrintScreen and remove the backgroung colour properly in Paint.NET without removing the shadows.

So does anyone know how to extract 256x256 PNG inages from ICO??

  • What does plastic speaker boxes do to audio?

I have these old biege plastic speakers which are made of cheap quality plastic. Inside them is nothing but mould marks and the speaker, and they sound horrible for 4" drivers. Will they sould much better if I make a custom speaker box of MDF/plywood?

  • What is the difference between 'Professional' graphics and 'Gaming' graphics?

There are Professional' series of graphics cards and 'Gaming' series of graphics cards. The only difference I can find is the price. Professional graphics cost around 20%-40% more than their gaming equivalents.

  • Which processor should I go for?

I have two choices; Core 2 Quad Q9550 or Core 2 Duo E8600. They practically cost the same. But which one is better? Do not suggest any other processor or a motherboard upgrade as this is a processor upgrade and I only have $280 to work with.
