  • When did socialism become associated with tyranny?

Why do Americans hate social institutions so much. Its greatest achievements have been through socially funded through collective efforts: the military, education system, the highway system, the nuclear bomb, civil rights, great public works like the hoover dam, TVA and other great systems.

But yet they believe that socially funded health care is evil, that caring for your fellow citizen is evil, that anything not run by private enterprise is weak and inefficient. You have to realize that all other industrial countries have socially funded health care, and get better care at far lower costs. Your economy is losing, your jobs are going away, GM, Ford, the steel companies are all carrying the burden and penalty for insurance companies greed.

The denial of basic human rights and insurance companies being a leech on the american economy is the true tyranny. It is time to smarten up. The world is waiting, puzzled that you have not.

  • How can christian right in the US be so against public health care, what about social justice?

The alignment of the christian right behind the republicans always bewildered me. I see the failure to align their politics with their christian beliefs puzzling. How can you be christian and not support fair access to health care for all americans. While I can understand the lack of support for democrats on many other issues, I find it suprising that the religious right isn't forcing the republicans to compromise on this issue. Isn't it there moral responsibility to push for social justice.

Besides, it is great for the economy no matter what the insurance companies who now reap profits of health care tell you because if American's are spending 14 cents per dollar on health care versus 8 cents elsewhere, other important things are being missed.

  • Does anyone else find Mississauga ford dealers hard to deal with?

Just difficult. No returning calls. No hustle. No flexibility. No honesty. I am going to buy a Flex despite their best efforts to dissuade me.

  • Do people really need to stop freaking out about the economy?

Our leader have to be leaders. Nothing has changed that much in 6 months. There is no war, the sky is not falling, things will be okay.

GM needs to fold up, hedge funds need to be made illegal like land speculators were regulated after WWI, corporate quarterly reports and their short term focus needs to go, health care nationalized but there is not that much wrong fundamentally, North America is still awesome. People need to eat, buy clothes, work, the world will go on.

Catastrophe lemmings shut your gosh darned mouths.

  • Why is hockey gear more expensive in Canada than in the states?

I can buy equipment in the states for 25% of the price in Canada. Why are Canadians such suckers to pay premium prices when you can get the same stuff much cheaper down south. FYI, I paid US$100 for TPS Summit 29" leg pads online, $600 in Canada. What the heck?

  • Are you tired of self important, judgemental newscasters busting regular people over their decisions?

Ann Curry on Nadya Suleman, Jim Grey on Pete Rose. I mean come on, the reporters are looking down their noses on people who became newsworthy due to their limited mental capacity and the results from miscalculated decision, not because they are fighting to be in the news.

Are these reporters in any position to judge? Does covering games for a living or doing fluff pieces about pregnancies really add more than a trivial distraction to people's life? It's not like the reporters are changing the world with what they are doing.

Nadya Suleman wanted kids, Pete Rose was great on the baseball diamond, neither ever claimed to be experts on anything else in life or self promote themselves as an example to follow. Serious news deserves serious scrutiny. Give incidental news makers a break.

  • Who thinks the Raptors should trade Chris Bosh?

Going nowhere, with a star whose numbers faltered when the team went into a funk. The Raptors problems are this: a shooting guard who can't shoot, swing men who can only shoot and can not take it to the basket, and a undersized baby at power forward who openly sulks when things do not go his way. Bosh should go for a 3 and another 4 before the Raptors are lucky enough to sign him.

  • Is Gary Bettman the biggest idiot in sports?

I do not know what's worse listening to Bettman or watching these supposed hockey tough guys cower from this little idiot. I e-mailed Doug MacLean that he turtled this week during a Bettman interview as Bettman shouted him down. He did not like it but MacLean turtled. Got this little Ahole Bettman has to go. I guess hockey players leave their courage in their jockstrap when they take off their gear.

  • Does anyone understand Martial arts belts?

So when a guy shaves his head he gets a first degree black belt, if he shaves his head and gets a tattoo its second degree, and if he then wears UFC gear its third degree isn't it. Shouldn't they sell those clothes with a mirror in which the bluffs can pose?

  • My son's hockey coach uses a pentagon formation in our end, is that clever?

Basically the D and the wingers play standard positions with the center up at the blueline. What do you think of this?

  • Is private health care killing the big 3?

US Car companies spend $2200-$2400 for retiree pension and health benefits on each car it makes. As a percentage of income, Americans spend double what other G8 countries spend on health care (14% of GDP in the US versus 6-8% elsewhere) and have a horrible health care system on average: great for the rich and the unionized but horrible for everyone else.

Plus, these legacy costs (mainly retiree health benefits) associated with the unionized have destroyed the competitiveness many american manufacturing firms as they carry far more retired workers than they currently employ due to technology improvements.

Do you want to improve manufacturing and the economy in the US, publicize the health care system, share the load that is forced on the companies that built the US. Government's job is to make the economy work, and keeping people healthy is central to that.

The only ones profiting on the current health care system is the insurance and financial companies, and in the past 6 months you can tell what a wonderful job they do.

  • Have you ever been given the bait and switch by LasikMD in Canada?

I have been to LasikMD. Their advertised price is $490 an eye for standard lasik. On their website, they list major components of the costs as surgeon time, after care, and equipment costs. I was given a quote for $1090 an eye for standard lasik on my -5.5 precription. I asked why the difference. Was their more time with the physician I asked? No. Was a different or more expensive machine used? No. Was the aftercare different? No. Was insurance on the procedure included? No. Were there guarantees? No.

Then why the difference in price? No answer. That was their price. It was my decision to have the surgery. Isn't this type of pricing illegal. Mustn't an additional service be provided for a price increase. Can anyone tell me to whom I can complain about this predatory style of pricing?
