  • Question about how unemployment benefits are counted by the government?

    I have been lucky enough to not need unemployment benefits. So when someone's benefits run out and Congress does not extend them, can they reapply for benefits once Congress addresses this? If so, are they counted as first time seekers or are they considered to be continuing their benefits?

    I don't want to turn this into a Democrat v Republican issue. I am just wondering how they are counted.

  • I'm confused on something in the Constitution when it comes to passing legislation.?

    The Constitution requires only a majority vote to pass legislation before it is sent to the President. I understand why we needed the filibuster and reconciliation. We no longer need them so why don't we go back to the way the Constitution was written? Why are people complaining about one party of the other using procedural loopholes when they are both doing so? Forcing one party to need 60 votes in the Senate is not Constitutional, regardless of the party doing it. Why don't the people who claim that Health Care is not Constitutional fight for the proper voting process?

    I made a minor comment that these are neat math tricks but do not support anything holy. Here are two responses:

    "...they demonstrate that everything of this world is planned, not a happening by chance. God is the planner and the Supreme Architect of the Universe."

    and

    "That we are even enabled to think on the mere POSSIBILITY of "god" is proof enough for me that "god" exists. The intricate beauty of mathematics is but one of many things that serve to reinforce that certainty."

    So my question is: how are these proof of the existence of God?

  • Would someone born in Hawaii before August 21, 1959 be eligible to be President?

    I'm not one of the people who think Obama is not qualified because of his birth. This talk has gotten me thinking though, what if someone became an American citizen when a state is admitted to the Union? Would that person automatically be considered a natural-born citizen? The article in question is Section 1 of Article Two of the United States Constitution:

    "No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."

    When a state is admitted to the Union, do they adopt the Constitution at that point or is that phrase only referring to the initial adoption of the Constitution? Are there any rulings from the courts on this?

    The Bible speaks out against the acts of homosexuality but does not directly condemn those who find the same sex attractive. So if you knew someone who was openly gay but also did not have sex, would you still condemn him or her?

  • Atheists: As a fellow atheist are there questions that atheists ask that irritate you?

    For example, I hate the argument that the Bible claims that Pi = 3. Anyone who understands how to measure, understands rounding, and margin of error will know that the argument is silly. I also have an issue with people dismissing miracles because they can't happen. That's the whole point of a miracle: that it takes something unnatural.

    I'm not talking about reading it like a novel or picking out verses. I mean actually sat down and read it with a critical eye. Asked hard questions and sought answers to those questions. There are many things that are contradictory or simply confusing.

    For those who did, what was your conclusion? Did it solidify your faith or weaken it?

    For those who didn't, why not? Lack of time isn't a reasonable answer for this, if it's important then you will find the time. Are you ever going to do this?
