  • Running Backs in the NFL and racism?

I was reading the article "Race factors into evaluation of Gerhart" found at http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ms%E2%80%A6

All I could really think about was racism especially when I ran across “One team I interviewed with asked me about being a white running back,” Gerhart says. “They asked if it made me feel entitled, or like I felt I was a poster child for white running backs. I said, ‘No, I’m just out there playing ball. I don’t think about that.’ I didn’t really know what to say” and “He’ll be a great second-round pickup for somebody, but I guarantee you if he was the exact same guy – but he was black – he’d go in the first round for sure,” the scout said.

I agree that a featured running back is rare in the NFL, but tossing around privilege because of being white, as a poster child for white running backs, and claiming if he was black he'd go in the first round, but 2nd round as a white guy to me is racism. Racism that I thought our country was trying to step away from.

Am I wrong in assuming this? Have you ran across being stereotyped as privileged and white?

  • Harry Reid and his Obama '"light skinned" African-American with no ***** dialect" comment?

Now this has struck me as an interesting topic because I know that hardcore republican's have been in uproar about this while democrats are quick to point out that Reid has been on Obama's side and has "no racism in him."

What I want to say about this is different though and something that came to mind as I was listening to the Thom Hartmann show in which he had callers voicing their opinions about it all. Here is my opinion about the whole fiasco and I would like to see responses or views about the opinion that I have which is about the dialect.

Many of us know by now that what's shown in the media is now taken as what people should like or enjoy. What I mean is having sex without being married, the clothes we wear follow what is seen on tv, the amount of people in sports that have tons of money and use this money to buy houses, cars, etc.

On all main stream channels on the television and the radio the way that people talk and present themselves is how they are seen as intelligent. For years the announcers talk in a clear dialect without any drawl unless they are say, a specific show or for a specific sport. For example, many of the commentators for hockey talk in a way that would make you think they were from Canada or Minnesota. But to the person that doesn't deal with a dialect other than their own, they may feel that the person speaking is unintelligent. Question to all the people from the city. If you heard someone from the southern states with a twang in their voice talk what would your first feelings be about their intelligence? Or would you turn of the television or the radio because you aren't use to their way of talking.

Here's another example, when you hear someone from Britain talking in their dialect do you feel they are smarter than you or does it aggravate you and make you not want to try to listen to it?

I guess what I'm trying to get at is in this day and age if we have anyone that's in the office of the President they had best use a dialect that is easily understandable and doesn't make people perceive that the president is stupid.

  • wireless internet/router problem....?

We have a wireless router at our house and there are 4 computers using it at any given time. Out of the 4, 3 are laptops and mine is the only one directly plugged into the router. The problem I'm having is that when my mom's laptop starts up, it freezes the internet and the rest of us get kicked off anything we are streaming whether it's a game, video, etc. Now I just set up a static IP address, but that didn't seem to work. Could I get some ideas to try? All we are hoping to happen is that she can start up her computer at any time and we don't have to worry about her computer knocking us off the internet.

  • Question about having sex?

We aren't suppose to base a relationship on looks but personality...

How did sex become apart of personality? And when you don't have a healthy sex life, there's something wrong or the person is cheating on you. And if they don't want sex, they must be g.a.y. Explain.

  • tolerance of homosexuals?

How can the side that's pro-homosexual marriages say that you must be tolerant and accepting of their beliefs even if yours are different..... but if they were tolerant and accepting of your beliefs wouldn't they get off your back? Aren't we all just one giant hypocritical society?

tolerant - Inclined to tolerate the beliefs, practices, or traits of others; forbearing (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/tolerant)

  • Did anyone see the video of the officer detaining Moats?

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/p...

my comment if you can go to it

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/p...

I just saw this and I don't think it's a great way that MJD posted this article on yahoo sports with the attitude he had. I did actually comment... I'm comment number 2895 and I wrote this

Let's see... this is not the right avenue to protest this.

    1. Moats never stopped: He went through 2 stop signs and 2 red lights it wasn't just 1 light and he stopped. he drove for a long while before stopping which means he was evading the police.

    2. If Moats would have cooperated and followed the instructions he would have gotten to go inside much faster. Instead he tried to tell the officer what to do and what not... At first the family of Moats started to go at the cop, which after the circumstances of the chase that would have made me, if I was the cop, some what intimidated.

    3. He did tell Moats that he could screw him over... which is the same thing that I have said when I was a Resident Assistant, I report what I see... I could have found a lot of drinkers on my floor but I decided to not do so.. If I said things to them or not... it's as a way to hopefully get them to not stop again.

    4. In this day and age... it's sad to say it, but anything goes .. The cop didn't know what Moats was going to do once he came out of his car. He could have had guns and went into the hospital on a suicide mission, the car could have had a bomb in it.... I mean what do you do when a person drives crazily towards a hospital? If someone is pregnant... it's not a guy duh!

    5. Moats was the driver, the cop saw nothing wrong with him and just wanted to control the situation.

If anything you people who want this guy to be taken off the streets are acting like nothing more than an angry mob... This is not the right place to bring something like this up. MJD you should be reported for abuse. The cop did a good job.

Any cops want to chime in on this situation? How would you have reacted in this situation? Did the cop follow the reasonable person standard? Any other comments would be most helpful.

  • When the poles shift...?

I've been doing a little research on this, but can't seem to figure this out. When the poles shift on earth, will the rotation of the earth shift, or will it continue rotating in the same way? I guess the sun doesn't shift so I suppose I just answered my own question.

What will happen to the magnetic field though?

  • wireless internet problems?

Before I tell you the problem, here's what I'm dealing with.

There are 4 computers that use the same wireless router, 3 are laptops with wireless and the other is my desktop which is directly plugged in. Every time my mother's computer starts up or shuts down the entire network freezes for a few seconds, my brother and I, who are usually playing games, lose connection and have to restart our games. Unlike my mother's computer, the other 2 computers that are on the network don't cause this "freeze" to happen when they start up or shut down. Also, I have a friend who brings their laptop over and doesn't cause this freeze to happen either.

I've heard mention that I could set up her computer to have a static IP address, I believe, that would make her computer not have to look for a new IP address every time she starts up her computer.

Now I've done some LAN parties when everyone had xp and know how to set up the 192.168.0.1, but now that I'm using vista (every computer is on the network is vista) and wireless internet instead of a closed network with cords, I don't know if the same procedures will work.

Anyways, that is the predicament, could any of you help me find a solution?

  • Calling all Democrats, Liberals, Conservatives, Republicans, Libertarians, Socialists, Anarchists, etc.?

I have a question for anyone that's willing to listen. When you look at the extremes in your party, or non-party, do you find that they are being just ridiculous or more importantly hard to communicate with?

I spoke to someone about the presidential race involving Obama and McCain, and I tried to tell him that both McCain and Obama have good and bad points, he pretty much told me that Obama has nothing wrong with himself and wouldn't let me say anything more, which showed me that he was a Democrat that had already become close minded.

I personally find that I have more of an independent viewpoint, which has leanings towards helping others while also helping myself at times, saving nature, self sacrifice, and being able to look at our history, the present, and look towards our future for future generations. I am turned off with politics, but yet find them hilarious when people forget what just happened 2 days earlier. I believe in fiscal responsibility and abiding by the rules, though I'm not perfect and still break some. I also find that there are good points and bad points in every party.

What can we do about this problem? Don't we need open minded people that can look at everything without blinders?

  • Impeach members of congress that aren't doing anything?

Studies show that congress has a lower approval rate than President Bush. If people are calling for the impeachment of President Bush, then they should also look into the idea of removing members of congress that aren't doing anything. If you disagree with this, why? If you approve of this, why?

  • Are superdelagates wrong?

What I'm getting at is that I've voted republican, but I'm very concerned about the concept of superdelegates. I think that a vote should count the same no matter what party you are in....so why are their superdelegates? I mean, I've heard that superdelegates account for 20% of the vote or roughly 10,000 votes per superdelegate. Isn't that just undemocratic? I mean, I get 1 vote to a democrats 4/5 of a vote....In my opinion that's bs.

What do you all think? I would like to hear your view.

  • US, Britain, France protest Libya comment on Nazis?

UNITED NATIONS - Dilomats from the United States, Britain and France have walked out of a U.N. Security Council meeting after Libya compared the situation in Gaza to Nazi concentration camps.

Wednesday's walkout was a rare protest by members of the U.N.'s most powerful body against one of their own members.

It came when Libya's deputy ambassador made the comment during a closed council discussion of the possibility of issuing a press statement on recent Mideast events.

Britain's deputy U.N. ambassador Karen Pierce says a number of council members were dismayed by Libya's approach "and do not believe that such language helps advance the peace process."

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080424/ap_on_re_mi_ea...

My thought about this article is that maybe Libya is saying that the situation is horrible maybe we (the UN) need to do something about it.

What are YOUR thoughts when you read this article?
