  • How do wire transfers work?

The other day, I completed a wire transfer via Transfer Wize to a retailer in Malaysia. I knew it was possibly a scam but was willing to take the chance anyway. I didn't want to enter my bank account info and used my credit card instead.

I was half expecting to lose the $70; however, I was surprised when fraudulent charges showed up on my credit card, as I was under the impression that only Transfer Wize and not the end-user would have the payment info. Now I am curious about how a wire transfer works so I can figure out where the breach happened.

With a wire transfer, does the end-user receiving the money also get your credit card /bank info, or do they just received the money with only the transfer company (In this case Transfer Wize) seeing the actual credit card/bank details?

  • Reemergence of short order lunch counter?

Like most people I have been intrigued by the troubles of traditional fast food restaurants lately( Like McDonald's) and the success of newer chains like Five Guy's, Shake Shack and Smashburger. It was only when I started to look into it deeper that I realized they are actually 2 different types of restaurants.

McDonald's (all fast food really) is the restaurant version of a factory. All their products are assembled to specific specs, using prefabricated ingredients. Their is little variation and products are very similar.

The intriguing part is when I tried to analyze the newer chains like Five Guys. They are certainly not fast food. However they are not a new idea either as the people who coined fast casual would have you believe. These new chains are nothing more than the modern version of the pre war, short order lunch counter. They offer food options that have some uniformity but are customizable enough to give people the variety they want. They are also cooked fast bust fresh, on site (typically under 10 minutes) while the customer waits. They are slower than fast food but offer much better quality.

My question is why did an entire generation forget about this restaurant model? For most boomers restaurants meant either sit down or fast food. The short order, lunch counter wasn't even on their radar. Also what caused the comeback of this model in the late 1990's to mid 2000's?

  • Medical Billing and Coding Career Ladder?

I am a B.A. graduate one and a half years out of school. I have yet to find a permeant job in my field (HR) and I am now looking at other careers. Coding fits me well however I am a little hesitant because I don t know what kind of promotional opportunities the field offers. I know a lot of those medical careers don t have much room for advancement and top out around 50K. I am looking for a careers where I can advance into management and eventually earn in the low 6 figures. Does the coding career provide these advancement opportunities?

What is the career ladder for a medical biller?

  • Management training programs for young professionals.?

I am a young man who graduated in the spring of 2013 with a B.A. in Labor Relations. After a year and a half of working temp jobs in HR I am now much more open to general business management/ administration. What specific companies offer management trainee programs for young B.A. holding professionals like me?

  • Employment Options?

I graduated in the spring of 2013 with a degree in Labor Relations planning to go into Human Resources. Since I have had a few HR temp jobs and that's it, I am now looking to expand my employment search outside of the HR field. However I don't really know where to start.

I am a very bright young man with a 3.59 GPA ( B.A. in Labor Relations) and above average ability in everything except math. I am willing to move pretty much anywhere in the U.S. and I am looking for a starting salary of $15-17 an hour or $30,00-$35,000 a year. What fields are hiring employees with 0 years experience that would fit my profile?

  • What is slowing down my system?

I am a light gamer who plays mostly the sims 3 and victoria 2. Since day one the sims 3 performance has been atrocious, freezing every five seconds and making the game almost unplayable. I am wracking my brain trying to figure out if their is one or two components that I can upgrade for a few hundred bucks that will drastically improve performance without having to replace the entire system. Here are the specks

The system has a AMD Phenom 2 X4 965 processor

A Gigabyte Technology Co. Lt GA-MA78LMT-S2 Motherboard

An NVIDIA Geforce GTS 450 Graphics card

8GB of memory and a 500 MB ATA hard drive

Running windows 7 64 bit edition

  • Should I update my graphics card or overclock the cpu and graphics card?

I have a 2 year old computer running on an AMD Phenom 2x4 965 with a gts 450 graphics card and A Gigabyte Technology Co. Lt GA-MA78LMT-S2 Motherboard. I don't do gaming that is too demanding (the sims 3 , victoria 2 etcc). However these games have always run slow and glitchy on my system.

I recently looked into replacing the graphics card with a more powerful gts 660, however in order to get the full potential I would have to upgrade both the motherboard and cpu.If i am going to replace most of my internal system i would rather wait for the new gen of parts due in 2015. Do you think i can improve the performance on low to mid end games like the sims 3 by overclocking my pc and graphics card (if so what are the optimal numbers ?) or should I go with new hardware?

  • Staffing agencies that only place Human Resources candidates?

I am a recent graduate looking to break into the field of HR. I have heard that their are staffing agencies that deal only with HR candidates. What are the names of some such agencies in the New York City/ Long Island Area?

  • Employment Options?

I graduated last year with a degree in Labor Relations from a SUNY school and a 3.59 GPA. I was planning to go into the field of HR but have been unable to find a permanent opportunity in the field willing to hire someone without at least one year of experience. At this point I am very open to exploring careers outside of HR.

I am willing to look at any job even blue collar jobs as long as they provide a decent income now ($35,000-$40,000) and have the potential to turn into a career paying in the low 6 figures. (I figure at some point in the future the degree will allow me to advance into a management role in almost any career.)

I am weak in math but good at problem solving as well as managing and executing processes, research and anything non numbers based. What are some jobs that would fit within my profile but have enough of a demand they would be willing to hire someone with no experience?

I heard that many jobs in the oil and gas field pay very well. What would be my options their?

Update : The only other things I would not consider is sales. I just don't have the personality for it .

Are their any U.S. Military (probably elite) units where each member is trained in both ground and air combat (meaning they can fight either on the ground or fly planes a fight in the air?) I'm writing a sifi book and having my 2 main characters have the ability to be both ground and air forces (in different battles of course) would be very helpful.

  • Stand Alone DVR?

I recently decided to buy an antenna a drop cable. It has worked out well so far except I miss my DVR. I liked being able to record HD shows digitally. Recently I did some research and figured it would be easy to find a stand alone DVR. Just a digital recording device that allows me to record my favorite HD shows by channel and time. No guide or monthly fee. Seems simple enough. Well after some research I have only been able to find three kind of devices. The first is the Tivo like devices that require you to pay a monthly fee. The second are DVR'S combined with DVD burners. Which I wouldn't mind except it makes the devices expensive. The third are analog converter boxes with recording features. Again not looking for that. Are there any strait "bare bones" DVR boxes I can buy that will just allow me to record HDTV from my antenna without paying a monthly fee? Where can I find them? If they are not available to buy is their a website that will explain how to build one?

  • Novel About Society Collaspsing?

Recently I watched this movie called earth 2100. It was a detailed story about the life of a girl born in 2009. As she grows the world is slowly coming apart. It takes you through her entire life from birth to death and we get to see society through her eyes go from a tipping point to complete ruins. While I get the message of the movie and it is certainly a wake up call I can't help but think the story about someone growing up in such times and living to see both civil society and the world in ruins would make a great novel. Does anyone know of a novel with such a topic? Where can I find it?

  • Computer Privacy Screens?

I recently got a new job where I am commuting about 3 hours a day on a train. This limits my time at home to a few hours at night. I would like to utalise the time on the train better. One of my favorite hobbies is writing erotic stories. Unfortunately its not something I can do with people looking in on my screen. Is there a privacy screen out there that can only be screen through special glasses? Or any other product that would assure my screen complete privacy in a train full of people?
