When is the earliest known commentary where you can look up comments on any verse in the old testament?
Where it is organized in a verse by verse order instead of topically or being a series of homilies.
I know Bible verses were not numbered until a certain year but they could have put the sections in order without labeling the number of the verses.

Other martial arts have a set of techniques taught at each rank that you learn and are tested on and do not pass to the next rank until you pass a test on those techniques afterwards you can learn the next set of techniques.
Are people generally not taught all the techniques in Brazilian jiu-jitsu unless they achieve the highest rank possible in that art?
