  • How do i get debt collectors from calling my phone?

The person they are calling sold the house to me back in 2006. I understand the collection letters in the mail as she lived here 6 years ago. However they call for this person every day. I don't really know her and only met her once while looking at the house. When I tell these debt collectors that they have the wrong number they don't believe me or tell me that they will take the number off their call list. They never stop calling. 7-10 times a day. 7 days a week.

I do not wish to change my phone #, I have had it since 2006. I also have tried blocking their number but they just call from a different number. I costs $ everytime I block a number.

  • Can a grandparent gain custody of grandchildren?

A few days ago my brother-in-law was arrested. His live-in girlfriend brought his three kids to my mother-in-law's home and left them with her. The girlfriend has power of attorney over the three kids from a previous incident but cannot care for them this time around. The girlfriend has gone to the school and called the children's doctor to let them know about the situation and the children's new living arrangements. My mother-in-law is going tomorrow to gain power of attorney over the three kids.

    Her concern twofold.

What should she do if the father refuses to sign power of attorney?

The father has been in legal trouble several times and will most likely get in trouble again. If she decides, can she gain full custody due to this. She does not make much money and has no money for a lawyer.

The children's mother passed away from cancer about 6 years ago and her family does not have the resources to take on three children either.

  • Can't stay asleep, work the graveyard shift.?

I work the graveyard shift as a correctional officer. I average a 13 hour day with 1 1/2 hours drive each way. By the time I get home it is after 7am. I go straight to bed but wake up at 11:30 every day. I need to wake up at 2:30pm and when I wake up I stay awake for about 30 min to an hour. I keep waking up about every 30 min until 2:30 pm. I don't want to take any medication for fear of not waking up on time. On my first day off I still only sleep until 11:30 am and find myself falling asleep during the day if I sit down and do something quiet (like read or watch a movie) I don't fall asleep while driving or anything remotely active. I also cannot be groggy or take a nap at work. Any tips or advice would be helpful.

  • calcaneus fracture and temporary pins?

My husband suffered a calcaneus fracture earlier this summer. He has two pins sticking out of his foot, one in the back and one in the bottom of his heel. His injury occurred in the middle of July and his surgery almost immediately. He has his second follow up very soon, will he likely get his pins out at this appointment?

How are temporary pins taken out?

    Is this typically painful?

  • Question about slander in court.?

Short version- My nephew's father took him for a weekend, he didn't bring him back and during the weekend he had him took him he called a friend of his ( a judge, the father is a cop) and got a custody order and child support on a saturday morning of all times. He claimed on the record that everyone in the mother's family were felons, criminals, drug addicts, and drug dealers. One person in our family had a felony conviction that is over 15 years old but that is all. The mother has already been given custody in our county after a year of this nonsense .

The father went to the next county to get this order.

We have all pitched in everything we have to help her get her son back but we want to know what to do about this slander thing, he strait out lied in court and no one was there to defend themselves. No one knew about the court hearing but the judge and the father.

Any advice about any of this would be helpful. We are in Texas if that helps

  • What is the typical sentence for dui/dwi with minor/child endangerment?

I have a family member that has four felony counts, two dui/dwi with a minor in the car and two counts of child endangerment. All counts were from one incident (two kids in the car and he was doing 90 mph in a 55). This happened in Texas. He has no previous dwi or dui convictions. I am not trying to get him out of anything, we just need to know because he is a single father (the mother is deceased) and the family needs to make arrangements for his children.

  • What should I do about two possible jobs?

I have applied and been interviewed for two jobs. One is with the state and the other with a private company. The state has finished my background check and will be finalizing in the next couple of days. (this almost always means a job offer)

I have interviewed twice for the private company job and was told Monday(when I called) that by the GM that he really liked me and was going to meet with the other managers yesterday to discuss hiring me and call me today. After the first interview he said he would call in 3 days and it was a little over two weeks so...

He has not called me yet today.

When I receive notice from the state job I have to respond pretty quickly and if I don't accept my chances of reapplying and being accepted are pretty much nil.

I would rather work for the private company but can't just keep waiting for an answer.

I am not sure what to do. I would love to have both jobs and they pay the same. The private job is closer to home so I would rather work for them.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Have you ever been given the old bait and switch at a job?

Most employers are very clear about what a job requires when they offer you employment. Some tell you one thing and then completely change it when you show up for your first day. Have you ever had this happen to you?

  • Will having a misdemeanor keep me from getting a job at books a million?

My dog got out in the middle of the night, When I woke the dogcatcher was at my doorstep with my dog. He wrote me a ticket that I paid. I was informed (correctly) that this counts on my record in the state of Texas as a misdemeanor. It is about the same class as a traffic ticket.

When I applied at books a million they asked for ANY misdemeanors or felonies in the past 7 years. I listed this ticket. Will this keep me from getting a job.

  • No one's coming to my daughter's b-day party.?

My daughter is turning 5 at the end of this month. I decided to have her party in a nearby town at a children's museum. I told everyone in my and my husband's family about it a month ago so they all had two months notice. I am paying for everyone's admission too. I have one friend who knew at the beginning that she couldn't go because of her work schedule and I understand that. What I don't get is my sister in law isn't going, she just told me today, so none of her three kids or my husband's mother is going to be able to go, The reason she isn't going? She signed up for a seminar last week! It's one of those get rich quick schemes. We show up to every one of her kids b-day parties. My husband's birthday just passed and we even took her kids with us canoeing, because she just didn't want to go. My brother in law is in jail and his kids are with his girlfriend, she hates us so she won't go. My daughter is an only child and looks forward to every chance to play with other kids that she knows. She doesn't start school until the fall so there are no school friends to invite.

The only people going are my husband, me, my sister and my mother.(my Dad has to be out of town that weekend, he is making arrangements to spend time with her another day)

I feel so depressed and angry, I feel like I'm letting my daughter down.

I am actually thinking of not going to any of their kid's parties for the rest of the year but that would disappoint my daughter too much.

    What do I do?

  • What author should I read?

I love Clive Barker but have read everything he has written. Like Piers Anthony but have read all of him too. Like Stephen King, Like Dean Koonze,Michael Crighton,Robert Ludlum. I read really fast so I go through books. I need someone new to read. Anything is welcome, I even read all three of the Golden Compass books (those were great).

  • I had a crazy boss so I quit, now that she's gone I want my job back!?

A few years ago I took a seasonal job at a mall. I loved the job and after only a few weeks they asked me to stay on. After a little less than a year my supervisor retired and my co-workers asked me to apply for her position. After a two second interview I got the job. Bad thing is that the person who would have been my boss also left the company and a new lady was hired. She was CRAZY! She would go through my desk when I was on the floor and then call me back to her office to discuss what she found. She forced everyone to revert to an old dress code that was no longer in effect. What did it for me was when I was trying to hire someone because we were WAY understaffed

she cancelled the final interview with the applicant because she wanted to take an early lunch! She didn't even call the person until 5 minutes before the interview and then just left a message on her machine and left the office! I couldn't take it anymore, she made doing my job a nightmare. I tried to move to a different department and everything was a go, then she talked to upper management and the next day everything came to a screaching halt. Even that department head said he couldn't figure out why, but management was informed about the transfer and denied it.I handed in my notice that day and quit two weeks later Then she left after only a few months!

Should I try to get my old job back?
