  • Is offering to help a potential landlord with renovations a bad idea?

I want to move into an apartment that is currently under renovation. My prospective landlord is a private landlord and they are doing the diy on the property themselves. I want to move into the apartment asap and offered to help with renovations to speed things up rather than wait a month, the cost of my labor would be taken off rent. I've never rented an apartment before and want to know whether this is a good deal or not. I've had experience doing drywall and painting so there isn't any problem with the work. Thanks for any advice.

  • Will pressure treated lumber last longer under normal circumstances?

To sum it up if I built a building that isn't exposed to the elements would it last longer if it was made of pressure treated lumber rather than untreated. When I build things I want them to last for as long as possible. Would pressure treated lumber slow down natural decay of wood?

    Thanks for any answers.

  • Can alcohol help treat frostbite?

Under the right circumstances could alcohol help treat frost bite?

So from the beginning if you

-first where in a cold environment

-then got frost bite (blood vessels constricting in extremities allowing them to freeze)

-then were taken into a warm environment so hypothermia wouldn't be a problem.

-then we're given alcohol causing blood vessels to dilate allowing blood to flow back into extremities helping them unfreeze and let blood recirculate.

Would this work? It sounds like it would.

    Thanks for any answers.

  • Will my parents notice if I use my air conditioning?

So There was an oldder air conditioner in my room (80s or 90s I'd guess) when we moved in and it's been hotter than hel* the last few weeks so I started useing my a/c 2 or 3 hours a day. So how much will this effect the electric bill? Will it look like I left a lightbulb on or like I was running a welder?

    Thanks for any answers.

Btw I'm not sure if I'm in the right category but this one seemed to fit best. Sorry if I got it wrong.

  • What's a good flashlight for around $50?

So I'm planning on buying a flashlight and don't want to spend $200 on a flash light but I'm also tired of cheap pieces of crap from dollar general. So anyway.

Things I NEED in a flashlight

-to be powerful enough to search through the woods at night (raccoons)

-to be able to be mounted to a shotgun.

Things I WANT in a flashlight (not especially important)

    -for it to be rechargeable

    -metal body

    -haveing multiple settings

Best answer for whoever can point me in the right direction, and recommend a shotgun mount (Remington 870 express magnum)

So does anybody have any ideas?

  • Will un-mixed concrete dust cause problems if inhaled?

I'm helping my uncle put in redo his basement and it's not very well ventilated and I breathed in a lot of it. I know I should be wearing a respirator but I don't have one. So will it have any serious problems from it? I know people get upper res. infections but how much do you have to work with it before that happens?

  • Is it safe to use orajel on an ingrown toenail?

My right big toe has a ingrown nail and I tried to carve it out and managed to cut through it and all that needs to be done is pulling off the nail but underestimated how well the toenail is attached to my toe (OUCH!). So I wondered if orajel would numb the area up enough that I could pull the nail off and how long would the numbing last? Also if I can get a appointment with a pediatrist in the morning if so I'll go there and get the good stuff (real lidacain and someone with real experience) so the orajel is like a last resort. Also I'm leaving for work tomorrow afternoon that's why I need this done before then.

  • How to make mint pesticide and how to use it?

I have a LOT of chocolate mint on my property and want to use it as a pesticide in my garden but I'm not sure how to make it or use it. I was thinking of filling a big pot with the mint and boiling it like a tea then straining it out and useing a pesticide sprayer to spray my garden. Would this work or should I just use regular pesticides?

  • Best antiseptic for cleaning wounds?

I've always used hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol but I read that they are counterproductive to healing. So what is the best antiseptic. From what I understand iodine is good but I've never used it.

  • Cutting into a addition and have questions about structural support?

So I had a addition put on my house last year and live in an A-frame so I'm cutting into the roof supports and will be cutting out 7 beams over an 10 foot span. My thought is that 4 2x6s stacked and bolted togather sitting on top of 4 2x6s stacked and bolted togather that will be sitting on the foundation and some other minor supports to hold the beams in place. Is this overkill or not enough since as far as supports I'd rather spend a little extra money than try to fix a problem later. And if there is a better way I'm open to hear it thanks

  • Bottle of water froze instantly what happened?

So I put a bottle of plain water in the freezer because I wanted ice. So I came back over 12 hours later and it was still liquid I picked and it started turning to slush like a wave from the top to the bottom. It looked awesome! So what happened I've heard of this happening with soda but not plain water? My guess is that it was chilled to below freezing but didn't form ice crystals for some reason.

  • Indoor wood stove or outdoor wood boiler which would be more efficient?

I have a 2000 sq ft 2 story house heated with an outdoor wood boiler in the garage 50 feet away connected by an uninstalled pipe (previous owner not my idea) and heats the house with baseboard heat. I burn about 6-8 full cords a year. I am considering getting a indoor wood stove and wondered if this would be more efficient and if I would be able to circulate hot air effectively also would a indoor wood stove burn less wood while still heating my whole house. I've also been told that indoor wood stoves are dirty and wondered if this is true.
