  • Evolution deniers, can you please learn your definitions?

Here is the definition for a scientific THEORY

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_theory

Gravity, Germ disease, atomic theory, evolution, theory of relativity and big bang all fall under this category, as well as many others. The word you keep associating evolution with is actually HYPOTHESIS, which it is not. Hypothesis implies a lack of evidence or verification. This is how we tend to use the word "theory" day to day life, but it is innacurate in terms of scientific work.

Here is the definition of a scientific LAW

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_law

These are things such as Law of Conservation of energy, Law of Fluid Dynamics, etc. Laws answer a different question in science.

tl dr; Evolution is "just a theory" is not an argument. The evidence is abundant (DNA, vestigial organs, fossils, etc). If you have reason or proof to believe evolution never occurred, I suggest write it down, submit it for peer review, and go collect your nobel prize. Thank you.

  • Creationists: Do you really believe there is no evidence for evolution?

Or does evolution just not fit your world view?

I can at least understand not liking evolution because it puts us on the same level as animals. You feel we are more special than that.

I can at least understand the belief that evolution has led to immoral laws, such as abortion or euthasia.

But do you honestly believe there is no evidence for it? This is something I could never comprehend if properly educated. I'm a biology major, and it isn't even a discussion anymore. There is more evidence for it than for the Theory of Gravity, but I doubt you have an quarrel with that.

At some point, don't you need to deal with facts, no matter the implications? Evolution doesn't even mean god couldn't exist.

If you really believe there isn't evidence, here is some information about it. I can't produce fossils over the internet, but you are more than welcome to go to a museum at see it for yourself.

    Thank you for your answers.

  • Ex-girlfriend wants to meet up?

My ex girlfriend keeps calling and asking if the two of us can get together to go out somewhere. I know she has a boyfriend now, so I don't know what to expect if I go and meet here. Does she just want to be friends or is there something more there? I can't imagine she would go to this length just to make sure we still stayed friends. She has plenty of those. So should I meet her, and if I do, what do you think I can expect?

  • Can someone explain this problem with the law of conservation of mass?

I'm not a science guy, so forgive me if I sound ignorant. From what I've read, the big bang was essentially caused by heat expansion. What I don't understand is where did that heat energy come from? I understand that the law of conservation of mass states that the total mass in a system must remain constant. That means there had to be some form of mass around even before the big bang, but where did that come from? Even if you answer that, I could keep asking that same question over and over. That means one of two things; either some form of mass has been around infinitely long, or at some point something had to come from nothing. Neither really makes sense to me.

I really just need someone who knows science to explain this.
