  • Is This Plagiarism: Common Phrases?

    I know the phrase is not in any of my literature cited documents or in any document I have come across.

    If I am emphasizing something by using a common phrase, is that plagiarism? Specifically if I write:

    something is trending toward 'going environmentally friendly'/ 'is going environmentally friendly.'

  • Bicycle Tire Repair- Does Outer Tire Need Replacing?

    My back tire had a tree thorn in it. I pulled out the thorn and will replace the inner tube once I get the part, but do I need to replace the outer portion as well? I only ask because the out tire is in really good condition, it is not anywhere near balding, and other than the minuscule puncture, in the best of condition.

    A cylinder contains 25.00 mLs of water. An object is placed in the cylinder and the water level goes up to 27.20 mls. Determine the the volume of the object.

    How do I do this assignment problem? I determined there is a 2.2 mL differrence, but I don't know if this would be considered the volume or if there are more steps in volved, are there?

  • A "Lob" Pass Versus a "Bullet," I have initial Speed & Time, But What Is Launch Angle?

    A quarterback can throw a receiver a high, lazy "lob" pass or a low, quick "bullet" pass. These passes are indicated by curves 1 and 2, respectively, in the figure .

    The lob pass is thrown with an initial speed of 23.5 m/s and its time of flight is 3.95 s. What is its launch angle?

    Using my calculator : sin theta= opp?hyp= vy/v

    theta=sin^-1 (38.7495/23.5)

    But my calculator says domain error. What is wrong? Could I do this another way?

    The bullet pass is thrown with a launch angle of 29.0 degrees. What is the initial speed of this pass?

    What is the time of flight of the bullet pass?

  • I have Initial Speed and Distance or Range, What is The Angle?

    A golfer tees off on level ground, giving the ball an initial speed of 44.0 m/s and an initial direction of 38.0 degrees above the horizontal.

    How far from the golfer does the ball land?

    r=((2)(v0^2)cos theta sin theta)/g= (2(44^2) cos38 sin 38)/9.8=191.6829 meters or r= 192 meters.

    The next golfer in the group hits a ball with the same initial speed but at an angle above the horizontal that is greater than 45.0 degrees . If the second ball travels the same horizontal distance as the first ball, what was its initial direction of motion?

    "What formula would I use? How would I us it?"

  • Projectile Motion , a Plane Dropping a Package?

    A relief airplane is delivering a food package to a group of people stranded on a very small island. The island is too small for the plane to land on, and the only way to deliver the package is by dropping it. The airplane flies horizontally with constant speed of 250 mph at an altitude of 800 m. The positive x and y directions are defined in the figure. For all parts, assume that the "island" refers to the point at a distance D from the point at which the package is released, as shown in the figure. Ignore the height of this point above sea level. Assume that the acceleration due to gravity is g = 9.80 m/s^2.

    After a package is ejected from the plane, how long will it take for it to reach sea level from the time it is ejected? Assume that the package, like the plane, has an initial velocity of 250 mph in the horizontal direction.

    Express your answer numerically in seconds. Neglect air resistance.

    I got 12.8 seconds as my time from guessing and checking, when I could not get the the right answer from :

    800=1/2*9.8 m/s 8 t^2

    I was told to do the problem in this fashion by another student:

    sq rt.800/.5*9.8m/s, what I came out with was 125.2. Why did I get this answer? what is the real formula for the finding out the time until a package hits sea level from 800 meters up?

  • General Physics and Conversion Problem?

    The inhabitants of a small island begin exporting beautiful cloth made from a rare plant that grows only on their island. Seeing how popular the small quantity that they export has been, they steadily raise their prices. A clothing maker from New York, thinking that he can save money by "cutting out the middleman," decides to travel to the small island and buy the cloth himself. Ignorant of the local custom of offering strangers outrageous prices and then negotiating down, the clothing maker accepts (much to everyone's surprise) the initial price of 400 tepizes/m^2. The price of this cloth in New York is 120 dollars/yard ^2.

    If the clothing maker bought 500 m^2 of this fabric, how much money did he lose? tepiz= 0.625 dollar and 0.9144= 1 yard.

    Express your answer in dollars to three significant figures.

  • Why Would You Read Shakespeare?

    In my class we are reading King Henry IV. I am having a hard time figuring out what would be a good question to ask an audience. You see, I have been given the task of writing up a discussion questionnaire for 4 groups in my class, and I am being graded on the quality of these questions. How long should they be, should they be a simple yes / no questions or questions that take genuine thought and reasons why a character would react in a certain way?

  • Flow Viscosity, physics and a whole lot of math?

    Arteriosclerotic plaques forming on the inner walls of arteries can decrease the effective cross-sectional area of an artery. Even small changes in the effective area of an artery can lead to very large changes in the blood pressure in the artery and possibly to the collapse of the blood vessel.

    Imagine a healthy artery, with blood flow velocity of v_0 = 0.14 m/s and mass per unit volume of

    P=1050 kg/m^3. This leads to a value for the kinetic energy per unit volume of blood of

    2

    1/2 pv0 =1/2(1050kg/m^3)(0.14km/s)^2 ~

    ~ 10Pa.

    Imagine that plaque has narrowed an artery to one-fifth of its normal cross-sectional area (an 80% blockage).

    Compared to normal blood flow velocity, v_0, the velocity of blood as it passes through this blockage by 5 v_0.

    By factor of 25 the kinetic energy per unit of blood volume change as the blood passes through this blockage.

    As the blood passes through this blockage, what happens to the blood pressure?

    Does it increase? If so by how much 240Pa? or 40Pa?

    Decrease? If so by 240 Pa? or 40 Pa?

    Stay the same?

    If you a medical profession can you tell me if it increases / decrease/ or stays the same if you don't understand the math?

    It's been about four years since I graduated and I still feel like I want all my friends back, just to talk to. • Harassment?

    Bob belittles me at work in front of others and when I am on the phone with other sales associates in other countries. It gets embarassing becuase others have noticed and have brought up the subject of his strange coments at inapropriate times about my work. he is anal retentive in his work (he has stated it too), but he is not being on task when he singles me out infront of people are trying to have a conversation with me on group projects or work related issues.After my confrence with our boss Tom, they (Bob and Tom) had one on their own. His activities became more agressive , yet more under the radar of our boss; he will go out of his way find me where ever I am in the builing to do something that takes 2 minutes to mark a (sdym) check on things that are ok, when he was in the same part of the building as the task that takes less a third less time then finding me to do it . All employees there consider his actions redundant and overly concentrated on me .

  • What do I do about workplace harassment?

    I work at a quickly growing company in Northwest. I have been working there for a few months shy of a year, I have been harassed repeatedly by one,only one employee. His name is (let us just call) Bob. Becuase he has been working there for 3 years, he thinks his seniority equates to his superiority over me. I am the Office clerk at my place of work&this person is the IT man. I not only work on things he can't do, but also the office manager's tasks,shipping, telephone& production manager's tasks. Bob wants me to put aside all other tasks for in favor of his. He has also rediculed my tasks in other areas of my job unrelated to Bob's work. Bob is not my boss, (sdym) Tom IS my boss, becuase he is office manager& the person who hired me to juggle multiple tasks at once. I've had a conversation with OUR boss Tom about Bob, ended with a brief statement of sympathy, procedure,&future evaluation of Bob by Tom. Since our meeting Bob has been more tolerable ,recently he has worstened situations.
