Help with a mccalls sewing pattern?
I am going to make a fleece sweat shirt for mt daughter. She is three yrs old, but she is very petite. Not aure what size to do for her. The pattern is for toddlers and children. The aizes are 1-2-3-4. So I use the finished garment measurements to determine her size? I have enough fabric to make size 4.
1 AnswerDo It Yourself (DIY)9 years agoWhat doest this knitting instruction mean?
K1, *K2tog, K3* repeat to last two stitches.
I am not sure what to do here with the repeat part. I did: K1, *K2tog...but then I am not sure if I knit 3 regular stitches or what and then what does it mean repeat to the last two stitches?
Please no stupid answers like these are simple instructions and I should know how to do them. I am learning still, and have no one to teach me. I can't afford a class. I would ask my grandma but...she just died. So thanks for helping me in advance.
5 AnswersHobbies & Crafts9 years agoWhat does this mean in this knitting pattern?
I am trying to knit slippers for the first time. I understand how to do the knit stitch, but don't understand what the pattern means by this specific instruction: "Row 1- Knit into the back of the first st, K6, P1, K7, P1, K6, and then bring the yarn forward, slip the last stitch purl wise.
Row 2- Knit into the back of the first st, K21, bring yarn forward, slip last stitch purl wise. (it says mark with a stitch marker, but I don't have those yet) Then it says to repeat row 1, and row 2, till you have 10 ridges in length and end with a RS row. Then start the toe section. For now, I just need help starting. What does it mean to knit into the back of the first stitch?
2 AnswersHobbies & Crafts9 years agoKnowledge Learning Corporation Policy question?
I worked for Knowledge Learning Corporation, also associated with Kindercare, for 5 1/2 years when I got fired. Basically what happened was, I went outside with my toddler class, and my co-worker left for the day. I had 7 kids aged 12-18 months in my care. I mistakenly left one of the kids (who was about 18 months old) outside when we went in, but soon realized this after only a few seconds. I retrieved the child and he was safe and unharmed. Understandably, the company has a no tolerance policy for leaving any child unattended for any amount of time, so as to leave no room for loop holes. They did say if I had done name to face to find out it would have been better...anyway...long story short, I was fired as a result. I soon found out I was pregnant with my now 2 1/2 year old daughter. I am thinking about going back to work in childcare possibly, but am wondering if anyone who works for KLC/Kindercare knows the policy for this. Or am I not allowed to work for this company ever again?
1 AnswerCorporations9 years agoShould I bother with this method?
My daughter is 30 months, and has been potty training off and on for about 10 months or so. I have had her in cloth diapers, then to underwear, then back into the cloth diapers, now she is in pull-ups for convenience. She was doing great for awhile as long as I took her to the potty, and then went through a toddler personality set back. Now, she is in the pull-ups cause she just won't take her self to the potty when she has to go. She has a few times taken her self to the potty to go poop and made it on time. Since about a month ago, those rare occasions completely stopped and she just goes in the pull-up (#1, and #2) unless I take her and am able to convince her to go. I have tried letting her go naked, and she makes it to the potty 100% of the time on her own when she is not sick. So I feel like she can feel it when it needs to come out, but why won't she take her self when she has underwear or pull-ups on. I can't do the naked time all the time cause I babysit 3 days a week, and my husband also doesn't like her sitting on furniture when she is naked because she might pee or poop on it. We have tried stickers, treats, encouragement, letting her watch a episode of a tv show she likes, and now we are trying money to earn for a pair of underwear she saw at the store she really wanted. She really wants the money and is excited to get it when she earns it. But I can't get her to take he self to the potty when she needs to go. I have tried telling her she can have 5 moneys (5 nickels) is she runs to the potty and does it her self. How do I get her to do that when I'm pretty sure she can feel when it is about to come out. She can hold it for up to 3 hrs if she REALLY wants to, but I have to try to go potty about every 1 1/2 hrs. She also has a potty watch, but she ignores it, and when I hear it and tell her she just ignores me or says no. HELP! I don't know if I should just stop all together and put her back in cloth diapers or put her in underwear and let her pee/poop her self and wait for her to tell me (not ideal since I babysit 3 days a week) or do the underwear and change her when she has an accident. Will it click for her on her own...I know what I need to do with the next kid, I feel with this one, I am in so deep that if I stop now she may think it was all a game and its over now. It seems that it would confuse her more. I feel like she is ready, but she just doesn't care enough about being wet or dirty.
4 AnswersToddler & Preschooler10 years agoHELP! Toddler doesn't care about being wet?
My daughter is 28 months and has been potty training for about 6 months, and she has been using training pants underwear for about 4 months. Also using pullups when we are out of the house (used to use the underwear but started having accidents when we were out). Now she has more accident cause I have been trying to let her tell me when she needs to go, but she doesn't seem to care about pee. Today she did get to the potty on her own and pull her pants and underwear down but she was wet. She did go poop though. My husband thinks she is not ready, but I kinda feel we have been at it for too long to quit. I also think somewhere I may have done something wrong, but I have no idea what. How can I make her not like it when she pees in her panties and tell me when she needs to go pee. And also take her self to the bathroom. How long do I let her sit in her wet underwear or will that just desensitize her to being wet? I am SOOO unbelievably frustrated. Seems like we take one step forward, 10 steps back, 1 forward, 10 more back. Then may have a good day, but then back to kicking and screaming when I take her away from playing, saying, "NO! I don't want to go potty!" and crying. I tried telling her she doesn't have a choice cause I have tried the let her take charge and she will sit in it all day. I know she can hold it for about 1 1/2 -2 hrs. She understands staying dry. She does well when I talk to her about that, and holds it for two hours. But she won't stop playing to go pee. I have to bribe her with popscicles and after about 20 mins she finaly goes pee. She rarely has accident when we are out, just at home seems to be a problem right now. We also went on vacation for a week and wore pull-ups the whole time...that may have messed her up a bit, but while we were on vacation she was telling us she needed to go potty. I am confused, frustrated and I just want her potty trained. She has the vocabulary to tell us, she just doesn't. WHAT DO I DO? Should I pull completely back and put her back in cloth diaper till she is 3?
7 AnswersToddler & Preschooler10 years agoAdvise on potty training?
My daughter has been potty training since about 21 months. She went through a phase where she would tell me she needed to go potty and poops. But now, at 26 months, she never tells me anymore. She doesn't even come to tell me when she has an accident. If she goes naked, she will make it to the potty 99.9% of the time on her own. She gets there for pee and poop. Also, she does really well when we are out and about. Rarely has an accident when we are shopping, actually I can't remember that she has had an accident while out. She also does really well when we go camping and pretty good when we visit relatives. At home, she seems to do fine as long as she has nothing on her bottom. She doesn't care if she poops or pees in her underwear though. So now what do I do to make her care enough to take the time to pull her underwear down and go on the potty? I feel like this is taking WAY too long. She is really smart, has a huge vocabulary, figures other things out very quickly. If you ask her where does pee pee go? and where does poop go? She will always tell her you "in the potty." I just don't know what to do to help her get motivated, and learn that she can't go in her underwear, that its no different than going naked other than you have to take them off before you go pee. Help!
4 AnswersToddler & Preschooler10 years agoAdding a zipper to a coat?
My daughter got this hand-me down coat that only has buttons. Its poofy and warm, but the buttons don't really work well. They come unfastened easily. I want to add a zipper to it so it will stay closed, but I'm not sure if it will work. I think it would mean the stitching would show through to the other side, but I think that will be ok as long as I do a good job. I would just leave the buttons on and use them in addition to the zipper. Any thoughts?
4 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)1 decade agoShould I be worried about eye cancer in my daughter?
I was taking pictures off my camera from Christmas for my mom, and in one picture I noticed something about the reflection in my daughter's eye. There was red eye in one of her eyes, and the other one had some red eye, but some of the pupil looked white. My husband thinks its just a bright light that flashed from somewhere else when I was taking the picture. But am worried about it being cancer. Should I be worried if it is only in one picture. She has red eye in both eyes in other pictures, just one pictures has the white on her eye like that.
8 AnswersCancer1 decade agoShould I just put the potty chair away for now?
My daughter is 18 mos and we have been experimenting with the potty chair since she was 12 mos. She used to go pee on the potty every night before her bath, but about 2 weeks after we started doing that, she just quit. So I took a break for a few weeks and then tried again and she went once or twice in a week. Now, for no apparent reason, she won't go pee on the potty at all. Even when I let her go naked around the house she gets mad at me when I put her on the potty and tell her to go pee, then she goes some where else and pees. She just keeps doing what ever she is doing and pees on the floor. Some times she will see and say pee pee, but doesn't seem to care that it went on the floor instead of the potty. I also wonder if her bladder is extra small still cause she is very petite. She still pees every half hour or so when her diaper is off...but sometime when her diaper is on, she will go an hour with out peeing. Also, I caught her about to poop, and got her to go in the potty. Ever since then she will not sit on the potty when she has to poop. She seems terrified. So should I put the potty chair away for now, out of sight? and for how long? or should I leave it in the living room and pretend its not there?

4 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoHelp with using the Ferber method?
I am currently trying to sleep train my daughter who is 8 months. I am trying to do the ferber method, but not sure how long I need to keep it up until I can officially say its not working. Also, what happens if she stops crying on her own for 2+ minutes, does the time start over? I am also having difficulty following through unless I am busy. So I guess I need to make my self busy...but anyway, Ferber and cio just make her mad, any other ideas. She sleeps through the night, actually 9-10 hrs. But she won't fall asleep in her crib, which is what I am trying to teach her. Is it worth if she is sleeping through the night (she does wake, but she puts her self back to sleep)? Please if you can, answer all the questions.
5 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoThrush and treatment question?
I can't get my 4 1/2 month old baby girl into the doctors till monday. I'm pretty sure we have thrush and I have some nystatin for her than she took last time we had thrush (about 1 1/2 months ago). Since I used the dropper in her mouth, is it contaminated or can I use it again. Or do I need to just throw that stuff out and wait till monday. We are having symptoms, but she is also teething so as far as not wanting to nurse...not sure about that. But she does n\have small white patches on her cheeks and small ones on her lips inside. So any thoughts anyone on the nystatin?
3 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoWhats wrong with my frozen breast milk?
I have milk frozen in my freezer (regular freezer compartment above fridge). They date back as far as 7/10/2009. I have noticed that they (almost all) have white spots in the frozen milk. I looks like bacteria, but I have read about this thing called lipase enzyme. What does it look like, and or what else could this be. I am throwing out all the milk (except this months stash unless its bad too) cause my daughter doesn't seem to like it. She only drinks 2 oz of it at most, and she normally drinks 5 oz of fresh expressed milk. I have pictures, I wish I could post them with my question...
4 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoQuestion about herpes and my baby?
I have a new baby, she is one month old. My husband has genital herpes, and up until now, I didn't. I was just taking a bath with the baby cause its good for milk production to have skin to skin contact with the baby, and bath time is the best way to do that (said the lactation consultant). I had her in her bed while I was using the restroom after wards and noticed some red bumps down there. Is my baby going to get herpes now too? I'm really worried. I don't know how long those sores/bumps have been there and she has taken baths with me before. I'm going to discontinue giving her a bath with me, but I am worried about her having possibly come in contact with the virus. Does anyone have any advise or knowledge for me?
11 AnswersSTDs1 decade agoBaby spiting up A LOT, why?
My baby is a week old, and she has been eating ok so far. We are breastfeeding this morning she fed and I didn't even get her up to burp and she spit up ALL OVER, like everything she ate came up. I looked like fresh milk with some curdles in it. Then I was thinking, maybe she's hungry about a half hour later because she spit it all up. So I got ready to feed her and she was laying on the bobby pillow next to my body and on her back, then she spit up again. This time it looked more like water with curdles in it, and it was just as much as before. Only this time, she hadn't eaten before it happened. I'm worried that she maybe sick or something maybe wrong with my milk. I'm also wondering if I have a yeast infection in both breasts, and if that would effect her ability to digest or empty her stomach. Her temp was fine this morning. So I don't know what is going on. Help!
6 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoIs my baby getting enough to eat?
I have a newborn, she is a week old. She had been nursing on one side for 15 mins, and was able to empty that one side. She had also started to go to the other side for a while, but now she is only nursing for 10 mins and is not going to the other side. Has she slowed down her eating or is there more in the side she is eating from than there was before? and is she some how able to empty it faster? or is there something wrong with my milk or with her that would make her eat time go down? Her wet/soiled diapers are more than adequate according to my diaper recording chart they gave me at the hospital.
5 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoSwelling in hand and feet?
I am 38 weeks pregnant. I have been experiencing the normal swelling in the feet, but recently I have been experiencing weird hand swelling. Both get swollen at night, but the right hand gets really swollen and I can't even make a closed fist with that hand. My blood pressure has been normal the whole time, even after the foot swelling started, so I was just wondering if anyone else had just one hand swell like that at night? What is it from?
2 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoAm I Leaking fluid, or is it something else?
I am 28 weeks and 2 days along in my pregnancy. Every night I seem to be having some what of a problem. I get what feels like sweaty between my legs and in my pelvic area. I was pretty sure it was just sweat, but then I started noticing yellow spots on the sheets. I guess it could still be sweat, but I want to make sure its not amniotic fluid. I still feel the baby moving and everything. Any ideas? Also, there is an odor every morning, but not one I am familiar with.

I really want to be able to find this detergent so I can wash cloth diapers and have them last as long as possible. I read that you can only find this soap in a military commissary. I can't shop there my self cause we aren't in the military. Is there ANY way to get this detergent other than having a friend buy if for me from the commissary? Any other places to get that I can't seem to find?
