The symptoms are:

* No heat whatsoever regardless of how I set the blowers/temperature.

* Engine temp is a constant 85/90 degrees, engine fan cuts in fine at around 100 & drops the temp back down to around 90 (thermostat should be ok?).

* Heater blower when on full blast also seems to draw heat from the engine, but I have no idea where this heat is going.

* Coolant level is fine, no apparent leaks.

* All the cooling system pipes in the engine bay get hot, & squeezing them with the expansion tank cap off makes the level go up & down (eliminating the possibility of an airlock?).

* Temperature dial on dash moves the little arm down behind the panel by the clutch pedal ok, that isn't stuck.

The only thing I can find that appears to be wrong are the actual heater matrix pipes that come out of the bulkhead. They bend upwards into some kind of bracket then connect into two more pipes which head off into the engine/radiator. Up to this bracket they are toasty warm - after the bracket & off into the cabin they are totally cold, only a bit of residual heat from the hot pipes they connect to - could this be a possible source of a blockage?

My next step is to remove the matrix pipes that go through the bulkhead & flush the matrix out. First question: How on earth do the pipes undo? They appear to have some kind of clip/plastic collar around them & I have pushed/pulled/twisted & they totally refuse to budge.

Also, how easy is it to remove the matrix & replace it? Is it a dashboard out kinda thing?

My drivers side window packed up on my '96 Escort earlier. Its always been temperamental - sticking & whatnot & generally being a pain. It totally packed up today about 3/4 open.

I've had people telling me I need to replace the regulator and/or motor but I had a play around & got it working by swapping the switch cable with the passenger side one (which worked). Now they both work so the motor/regulator must be fine but obviously the passenger button opens the drivers side window & vice versa. The motor is quiet, & the window slides up & down smoothly & quickly so i'm guessing it isn't a mechanical problem.

Is this a problem with the switch? Both windows are working fine for now but on the wrong button. I am worried about the window failing when I am out & having no way of closing it.

I live in a primarily Muslim area, & often get violent abuse due to the way I look. I was brought up to believe the Muslim way preached peace, yet this is the opposite of everything I have encountered. One of the attempted plane bombers that got sentenced recently lived a few miles away. I am a fairly handy bloke, yet I will not walk around my local town on my own for fear of assault by Muslims. This is England, I am English, should I not be able to feel safe?

Does that mean my family & myself are in real danger?

We all know that nowadays teenagers have no respect for the law/parents/teachers/adults in general (which started the day teachers were threatened with court action if they hit unruly kids) - should the Police be given a bit of leeway when arresting these idiots?

Example - Road Wars on tv now, two teenagers on a stolen motorbike trying to escape the police, nearly hitting pedestrians, driving on the wrong side of the road, generally being a danger. Blatantly guilty as it is all on film, & they just know they'll get let off IF it gets to court.

So should the police be allowed to be a bit rough when arresting these idiots? Maybe the thought of a slap round the head might be the deterrent they don't have at the moment.

This isn't a question, just clearing up a few things as people seem to be panicking about Facebook at the moment.

First: Fan Check is NOT a virus

To infect your pc with a virus it would actually have to install something directly onto your system.

Due to Facebook privacy settings no application has access to your entire friends list. If something could access & infect this list it would be instantaneous, not over a period of days.

Whoever is sending this 'virus threat' around Facebook is someone with a gripe against Fan Check. No application can do anything more annoying than bother you with notifications.

Second:

Facebook users have been posting questions about how they are struggling to login at the moment, how they are seeing old status updates, how chat isn't working properly etc.

This is all due to server maintenance - apparently Facebook are upgrading server software so there is a time lag between things showing on your profile. Chat is struggling as it is a real-time application.

There is no virus going around Facebook infecting your friends list.

No Facebook application can infect your computer, you are perfectly safe as long as you don't let it install anything on your pc. Facebook are extremely strict with app developers, anything slightly suspect does not get through. I know this as I am a Facebook app developer.

Facebook is probably the safest social networking site going, miles safer than Myspace that let third party remote websites fill your profile with flashing & sparkly rubbish.

Now I appreciate this isn't an English exam & a lot of users on here don't have English as their first language, but some of the things you read on here are atrocious.

Even really basic spelling mistakes are common, & punctuation seems to be extinct.

Are education standards slipping? Are people just lazy?

If I read a poorly written question my opinion of the asker automatically falls. Am I being too harsh?

This applies to both sides of the Atlantic by the way, the English are just as guilty as the Americans.

On a rubbish answer, yes, I can see why.

After half an hour of browsing this site you can see people deliberately do it to other answers, it is blatantly obvious as they are they only answer without a thumbs down.

Some people must take this waaay too seriously & need to get out a bit more.
