  • cross cultural adoption...?

Just wondering how people justify it considering that the geneva convention declared that removing kids en mass from their culture to be placed and raised (through adoption and foster care etc) by the mainstream culture is a form of genocide. I have seen the talk shows where kids WITH their a-parents say its good. talk about biased, they arn't gonna say boo tp the mouth that feeds them. But of all the adults who were cross culturally adopted I have NEVER met one that thought it was a good. Thing. So A-parents. How do you justify removing a child from their culture, their religion and beliefS? Giving them white names and white lives? Do you think it is better for them? Do you take them to interact regularly with their people? Do you raise them in their peoples religion or yours?

  • rockband beatles won't work after wii update?

    K. So my rockband beatles in in great condition. Got the wii fit plus, my wii goes through the update (nothin new there) and then I put my beatles back in and it shows an error. Thought that was a coincidence but apparently I am not alone http://www.wiichat.com/nintendo-wii-chat/63579-bea... so has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know what to do? I called wii support but it's a EA game so "not their problem" but they will have someone call me back. EA support opperates during regular business hours so I'll have to try later So frustrated.

  • Reconsider Columbus Day?

A video asking Americans to re-think Columbus day. What it means, and to petition for a new holiday to replace Columbus day. Great video.

Wondering who all supports it and for those who don't how do you justify honoring someone as horrible as Columbus? Easy for me as a Native Woman he started the Genocides of the Americas, but what about the rest of you.

  • Wii fitness coach or EA wii sports active?

Which game delivers a better workout? And which one is better overall. Pros and cons would be great. I have read reviews and am not sure which would be best. I am aware that fitness coach is half the price of sports active.

    TY in advance.

  • why ask a question about Native people if you don't want our answers...really, wondering why!?

Over and over I see non-Native people ask questions about us (Natives / Indians / whatever ya want to call us...don't care as long as it's not rude). Why do we do this, how do we do that, I read you do so-&-so. We answer, usually correct misinformation. Then the best answer goes to an incorrect non-Native person. So confused. Oh but wiki said ...(FYI people wiki is written by any fool wanting to write in it, try it out.) Oh this book says...(was the book written by a Native person?) If I want to know about European culture, or African culture or Asian culture, I trust the info from that culture. OK GETTING TO THE POINT. So why do people disregard information on Native culture that comes from Native people in favor of information from someone who is not part of our culture?

  • how well do you know your history - US / Canada & Native relations?

Most people know that Columbus and his crew got lost and ended up in the Americas. War, land theft, genocide and treaties followed. But what else do you know? Can you answer these historical questions? --------------------------------------------------------- 1) what were the residential schools, what was the governments reasons for this policy and what was the impact? When was the last residential school closed (in canada for those who live there, in usa for those who live there --------------------------------------------------------- 2) what was the 60's scoop, the governments reason for the policy and the impact? --------------------------------------------------------- 3)Which country based their government on the Iroqious governmental style? --------------------------------------------------------- 4)Which government helped South Africa develope the apartied system and what was it based on? --------------------------------------------------------- 5)Native Ceremonies, singing and dancing used to be illeagal in the US and Canada. In what years did each country rectify this? --------------------------------------------------------- 6)What was the most recent "Indian War" (government sent in military to fight against Natives) in each country & can you name the conflict? --------------------------------------------------------- 7) Do you think this should be learned in school?

  • why do boyscouts dress up and play Indian?

Why do they do the order of the arrow thing, teaching boys inaccurate things about Native people. Presenting it as though we are all the same and then dress up as though they were Native and go dance Indian? And they call this respect? Even though we keep telling them it's not. They argue with us then ignore us...some respect If they dressed up in black face and then danced "African style" (well their version anyway) they were be an uproar cause it would be considered racist. If it is racist to mock Black people this way why is it not considered racist whenn people do it to us Natives?

my sis in law is in need of a passport asap. She has heard that the quickest way is to drive to ottawa (we live in ontario) right to the office that does the passports. My Question Is: can she get it that day or will she need to go back in a few days?...if so how many days? And no she does not have a valid drivers licence.

  • 1 of my children was concieved after I was raped...is it time to tell her?

I was raped at the begining of my relationship with the man that is now my husband. The rapist went to jail. My husband and I never told her because the rapist his merely a sperm donor, but my husband is her dad, she his his little princess, and he spoils her, helping me through that time and raising her brought us very close. My daughter looks like her siblings because they all look like me. We never wanted to tell her because we thought it would hurt her. But people in the community talk and kids are mean. My son told her she didn't have a real dad. We told them this was not true and I sent my son to bed without supper wondering how he could be so mean...but people are. My Mom in law thinks we should tell her before someone in the community does. The rapist is out now...what if he sees her and says something? (he stalked me for a year, so yeah he will recognize her as my daughter if he ever sees her). Mom in law says we need to empower her with the truth, but I am afraid it will destroy her.

  • help with home schooling a "difficult" child?

I started homeschooling because 2 of my children were having a lot of difficulties in school, and 1 (who is very advanced) was bored. For the most part it is going great and they are doing much better, learning lots. It has improved my relationships with my children. However, one of my children often does not listen to me and is not learning as much, more then when she was in school (she was often sent home 2 or 3 times a week). I have tried punishment, and many suggestions from her counselor but still struggling. And no sending her back to school is not the answer, her counselor agrees homeschooling is her best option.
