  • Best hay for long distance travel?

I'm going to be trailering my horse from CA to VA in the next month or so and would like to know should there be any type of hay that's best to feed during this? I've heard grass hay is good but wasn't sure. Shes currently on Oat hay in the a.m. and Alfalfa in the p.m. No grain. Should I leave her on what shes eating now through the trip? She'll eat any hay really but I know they can get stressed and I don't want her to colic or anything. Thanks!!

  • What size Cinch?..New to Western?

Was just wondering how do I find out what size cinch I need? I usually ride English and she uses a 46in girth but those wrap all the way around unlike what I've seen cinches do. Thanks!

  • Legal-ish question about horses pedigree?help?

Hi I've been doing research on my horses line and was curious how to get a way to get it 'legalized' or something to have it be legit if that makes sense? Just to have proof that yes indeed this horse is a descendant of this horse. This is a first horse for me so I'm curious how to do this and yes she is registered with APHA I don't know if this helps with answers! Thanks for the help!

  • Question about feeding in winter?

My horse is 4 she's about 15hh- she gets 2 flakes of oat hay in a.m. and 2 flakes alfalfa at night. We're mostly ground work and will probably start trotting in November, shes pretty laid back to give an activity background. The temperature I've heard(we just moved here to CA in July) gets in the 30s and it does rain alot, should I offer her anything else for these cold months coming? The pastures are all dirt so there's not any regular grazing until I come out and hand graze her in the afternoon. So should I ask for another flake of alfalfa at night and she'd be fine or any other ideas as to maybe forage cubes I've heard of? I've been hearing mixed things on beet pulp mash and that it's really sort of pointless in the end. This is my first horse and I just want to make sure shes comfortable! Thanks!!

  • 4yo bucks AT me when trying to move away on lunge line?

I have a 4yo paint mare that I've had a few weeks now my problem is she will not move away from me no matter what! I've tried the lunge line and tapping on shoulder with whip, I've tried letting her go away without a line and she just will not move away and when I try to get at her she turns and bucks or tries to buck AT me and yes she actually tries to buck AT me no confusion in that haha. And I do the eye contact and squared shoulders. I know this is disrespect but when I walk away she follows she'll follow me everywhere and stop when I stop and just wants to be with me. So I'm very confused cause shes being disrespectful but then respectful. Anyone have any ideas as to what I could do to stop this and to just get her to move and move away? I don't want to get a trainer as I want her to respect me not them. Should I continue to really get after her when she bucks till she figures out this is not appropriate behavior? And if so what other methods can I use to do this? Like I said I'm confused cause shes showing both disrespect and respect! Thank you!

  • Has anyone here adopted a Mustang?

Hi- I have been thinking of adopting a Mustang- young not an adult, sometime this year or next and have been looking all over the web for information, caring all of it, and am having a very hard time find information about the actual care and cost of one once you adopt it and just more information in general, the few sites(including BLM) I can find all have pretty much the same standard info, and I'm just looking more. Im 23 and have been riding, competing since 7 and have worked in stables, helped with training of domesticated horses so I'm not clueless as to what I'm getting into, but I am looking for more info about actually OWNING one. If I do adopt it would be my first to OWN and have always been looking to do something like this and work/bond with such an amazing horse. I would like to hear about more personal and more of the 'real deal' of owning one, are they really such easy keepers as I've been reading, just anything. Thank you for your time and hope someone could give me more information since I havent been having alot of luck in finding more than about 3 sites that say pretty much all the same thing!

  • Cat losing hair? Medical not shedding?

Im asking this question for my dad-inlaw...He just bought collars for his cats not long ago- same rack-brand-all of it his one cat we'll call Cat1 had started to breakout you could say losing fur has/had some sores fur loss completly around neck some on his back and near his tail- its looks as if hes been chewing. Cat 2 never had any problem totally fine. He says this happens sometimes in the summer with Cat 1 and had another one who had the same problem but has never been this severe. There has been NO Flea evidence. He obviously has taken the color off since this has happened a few weeks ago and had given them their Frontline treatment recently. Cat 1 has started getting better and fur is growing back since then.A friend of his mentioned possibly Sand Fleas but there is no evidence of fleas. I am a groomer which is why he asked me but I dont deal with cats- Im figuring its an allergic reaction from something that was possibly on the collar or some kinda Mange but why would the Mange get better once Frontline is applied? If anyone has any suggestions as to what possibly couldve happened please let me know! Once again there was NO sign of fleas once Frontline was applied Cat1 has gotten better and this happens during the summer sometimes.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ANSWERS!!
