Barking Toad
Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security, will deserve neither and lose both. - Benjamin Franklin
What do you think of the TSA's "enhanced" pat-downs?
Are they illegal? A violation of the 4th Amendment?
Do you think it's going too far to allow "transport safety officers" to grope the genitals of prepubescent children?
Or are you fine with sacrificing freedom for (the appearance of) security?
6 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoChristians: Explain why mormonism is false?
I'm going to assume that you believe Christianity is true and mormonism is not. Please explain why?
21 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy is it that certain religious types will?
ask a question directed specifically at atheists, and then block any atheist that responds?
I guess my question could be divided up as follows:
If you're a theist, and have done this, why?
If you're a theist, and you haven't, why do you think some theists do it?
If you're an atheist, and you have done this (reversed, of course), why?
If you're an atheist, and you haven't done this, why do you think some do? And do you think atheists do it, too?
After all, I wouldn't notice if atheists did it to theists, so I'm not going to assume necessarily that only theists do this.
11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoCatholics, how do you reconcile the actions of your church with its message?
I'm referring specifically to Catholic opposition to a New York State bill called the Child Victims Act, which would allow those abused by Catholic priests over the years to sue the Catholic church?
Do you think it is morally defensible to not let these victims sue? How do you reconcile that with Jesus' message? Specifically e.g. Luke 18,16.
Article about the case:
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoBelievers in a god or gods: What could change your mind?
Purely hypothetically, what event, experience, evidence, anything, could make you change your mind on your deity's existence, and come to the conclusion that your deity did not exist?
21 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoChristians (and possibly other theists), why do you think you can have your cake and eat it?
Okay, so according to you, proof of your god would invalidate the whole concept, because we have to have faith without proof or evidence, yes? (If no, please discount this question, you're obviously not in the target demographic.)
But, you also keep claiming that atheists are ignorant and blind, possibly even that we actually believe in your god but just deny it because we want to sin without repercussions etc. So if it's so obvious that there's a god, doesn't that invalidate your faith?
If there is so obviously a god, doesn't that make your faith unnecessary?
Even more interesting, why do you bother trying to prove your Bible is factual and your god are real?
3 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoTo every theist who has ever asked why an atheist cares about religion?
This is why:

Now can we all agree that this law is batsh!t insane?
If not, please explain exactly why not.
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoSpiritually Speaking: Why are so many theists' Q&A private?
Admittedly, I haven't done actual statistical analysis, I haven't taken an unbiased sample, and I don't have any reason for this conclusion other than personal experience, which, as we know, is inherently flawed. But it seems to me that quite a lot of theists have their Q&As private, and only very few atheists/agnostics/deists? What do you think? Am I right? And why?
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoChristians: Would someone who had never heard of Jesus automatically go to hell?
Or does it depend on what they do in life (i.e. works), or what?
22 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoMuslims - please explain this?
Why is it, that when I refer to Christianity, or Judaism, or Hinduism, or Buddhism, as silly superstitious primitive nonsense, then I'm told that I am an atheist, and that I will suffer eternal torment (or whatever). But when I say the same thing about islam, then I am told all this, AND I am told that I am a racist? Why do you think everyone who does not like your religion is a racist?
